The food was great and the staff were exceptional. We had fried eggplant, calamari, soft-shell crab and everything was delicious! Thank you!
Fantastic!!!! I felt like I was at my Maw Maw Stallone's house... Im Irish Italian so I was impressed with the menu and ambiance! Everything homemade and fresh right down to homegrown vegetables for their salads and the fig tree just like I was sitting in my grandmothers backyard!!! Best tucked away and hidden treasure! I'm taking a group of friends back Tuesday night for a Christmas and birthday dinner Italian style!
We visited Patrenella's last night after spending the day with family. There were 10 people in our group and we didn't make reservations, but we were still quickly seated. The waitstaff was very courteous and friendly. Our drinks were always full. Just inside the menu is a short summary of how the restaurant started. I loved the authenticity of the establishment. The food was stellar. We were definitely well taken care of. An olive/cheese tray and an eggplant parmesan appetizer were brought to our table. Both were delicious. There was always plenty of bread, oil, and parmesan on our table. We absolutely loved our experience at Patrenella's. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this is the place to go!!
What a wonderful place! This reminded me of some of the restaurants I visited when I lived in Europe - great atmosphere! The staff was friendly and took great care of us. I really enjoyed the appetizers, wine and main meal. Dipping the tasty bread in garlic oil was amazing...don’t even feel guilty about breaking my no-carb diet. :). I will definitely return!
Great menu vegetarian options some vegan nice wine list. Spicy flavorful well prepared. Special orders , no problems. Fast friendly service. An underrated gem a few blocks off the Washington Ave scene. Great ambience a renovated bungalow .
My family and I came here for my Dad's 64th birthday dinner and had an exceptional experience.
I called earlier in the afternoon to book a table for five and requested it to look like a reservation for four to surprise my Dad with my brother's surprise arrival from Los Angeles. They were incredibly accommodating to my obscure request and the surprise "arrival" worked out perfectly!
Jake, our server, was an attentive and polite host; outlining the days specials, always refilling our drinks and not rushing us on our order.
We started off with with fried calamari (delicious) and olive and cheese platter for appetizers.
Then onto the entrees; my Dad ordered the spaghetti carbonara, my mom ordered the butternut squash ravioli, my wife ordered the veal scaloppine, my brother ordered the scallops with risotto and I ordered the Angel Hair with crabmeat.
My angel hair crabmeat was simply perfect. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the crabmeat chunks were juicy and tender. I highly recommend this dish.
My Dad's said his spaghetti carbonara was delicious. After all, what kind of Italian restaurant can't make a good spaghetti!?!
My Mom said her butternut squash ravioli was delightful and flavorful.
My Brother's scallops was amazing but, the risotto was underwhelming (too much butter).
My wife's said her veal scaloppine was "yummy" and her go-to order here.
This is an amazing little family owned Italian restaurant in the heart of Rice Military with ample parking and a unique atmosphere.

I would have given this place a better review if the employees made you feel more welcome at this family owned place seemed so inviting. I asked the main attendant Mario what he likes most about working there and he replied, "his schedule" he stated he'd been there for 12 years so this place has stood the test of time and has pretty good tasting lasagna in my opinion too😜
This cozy place in an old house is amazing. It takes you back to another time in Houston and makes you wonder what things looked like before chains and lofts dominated this area. It's nice to have a piece of history stand firm. The food is incredible. The service is lovely. Don't pass up this hidden gem!
A hidden gem in a bustling city. An amazing Italian restaurant hidden inside a 6th ward home (the owner's original home growing up) and may possibly be one the most delicious meals I've ever had!
The food is great! Great ambiance. And the wine was delicious.
One of my all time favorite restaurants. The atmosphere is amazing and I love that it's set in the house the owner grew up in! The service is always above and beyond wonderful; often with them insisting on trying a new app or dessert on the house or that our wine bottle actually refilled itself somewhat. The food is always top notch delicious! Definitely give it a try!
The food, excellent, the service friendly but slow.
We hadn't been to Patrenell's in years and decided to go there for Valentine's Day. For an appetizer we ate the stuffed artichoke, split a garden salad on the waiter's recommendation (half is enough for one person) and had the scallops and salmon for entrees. We were pleased with Chianti we ordered with the meal.
The food we ordered was excellent, served hot and well portioned. We were very full and skipped dessert. The only issue was the service. It was friendly, but slow. We thought they were short handed that night.
We will go back for the food and the hope the restaurant is better staffed.
