My 95year old mother took a fall at home. She ended up being taken to Straub on King Street. After being assessed by nurses and doctor, she was admitted to the hospital for surgery.
While in ER, behind the curtain, others were also being assessed and attended to. We had to wait our turn as they prioritized the urgent patient’s’ diagnoses over hers. plus we waited for the X-ray and CT results.
Nevertheless she was admitted to the hospital for surgery and drs decided to operate in two days due to the blood thinners she was taking. They ordered pain killers for the time being and she patiently waited for surgery.
Nurses and hospital and surgical doctors were very accommodating and hospitable. I was pleasantly pleased! Surgeon Dr You was absolutely a great doctor always keeping us abreast of his work on her and gave me a lot of information as to next steps. Great health services at Straub and doctors!
Very kind and informative staff. I was updated with all of the information I needed and highly recommend Straub. If you stay overnight you get a TV and for hospital food it is golden. This is the hospital you want to go to. Again, staff is very friendly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This place was amazing. I had a kidney stone and was in the worst pain of my life. They had me in a room and gave me pain medicine within my first 5 minutes there. CT scan and treatment and discharged within 2 hours. The majority of the time I was there I was waiting on a disc of my scans that I requested.
I think my nurse was Ms. Brittany. She was amazing!

Thank you honestly the best emergency medical team! I ever met! All the doctors are wonderful and really do work hard and care about their patients! My husband was in the ambulance and got sent here and I was so grateful they took care of him right away no wait unlike at our military ER. Really grateful for all these hardworking doctors I met 🙏 they helped my husband and are military friendly!
My (now) husband and I landed in this ER the morning of our wedding. The staff was excellent- compassionate, respectful, professional, engaged, caring, and thorough. From the moment we walked in the door, we were well taken care of and felt like we were getting the best possible care. Through their hard work and dedication, we were able to get our issues resolved and still make it to our wedding on time. Thank you for all that you do- your facility and staff is just wonderful and is highly recommended for good, efficient emergency care.
I don’t know who runs this operation, but every person who attended to or came into contact with my father was awesome. My father had chest pains and couldn’t move. I called 911. The EMT’s in a fire truck arrived in about 5 minutes. The ambulance took longer as it had to come from 20 miles away.
Every person was gentle, patient, and caring.
At the hospital, every healthcare workers came into contact with was patient, seemed to genuinely care, and communicated well. Normally in any organization you might encounter a few people who are exceptional. In this case every person at every level was exceptional. I encountered nearly a dozen individuals.
As an employer and trainer, I wonder how this culture was hired and developed.
Five hours of observation and tests my father was ok. He said it was the best hospital he’s ever been to.
The best ER on the island period. The last thing you want when going to an ER is to wait. I’ve never waited more than 5 minutes here at Straub. Checked in quickly, then the nurse comes by, then someone to take blood, hook up the IV and I’m already feeling better. By the time the iv is done, the Dr comes in to double check on everything, and I’m good to go! So efficient, and I suspect the admin passes out happy pills before every shift because everyone is smiling as they’re doing their job. Food poisoning is miserable but I know just the place to go to feel good again. So good that I went to work today!

My boyfriend and I are visiting Hawaii for vacation. This early morning we needed to get some medical attention for him because he was vomiting black liquids.
We arrived at the ER around 5/6AM. Michelle checked us in with such friendliness and warmth as if we were checking into a 5-star resort. Before we were even done with the paperwork up front, Hannah, our nurse met us by the front desk to see how he is doing. This is by far the fastest service we’ve ever seen at any ER or hospital!
Everyone was incredibly kind and efficient. Their professionalism eased our fear and anxiety. His ER doctor came to see us swiftly. She was caring and easy to talk to. She addressed all of our concerns and got him in for an endoscopy this morning. The endoscopist was unsurprisingly friendly and efficient just like everyone else at Straub. He explained the findings and postop instructions in detail. Answered all of our questions. He was put back to health and discharge from the ER by 10.
We are beyond grateful for the care we have received today. This is the best ER we have ever seen. Thank you so much for the great work you do!
After unfortunately having to go to the ER 4 times for chest pains / G.I. Issues (each of these times I went to Queens and felt less than satisfied with some doctor's lack of adequate bedside manners), I was recommended by someone in the medical field that he would choose Straub for his wife, so we chose Straub. I immediately noticed a difference from the rapid care, excellent bedside manners of ALL of the nurses, RNs, and doctor. I was closely monitored and listened to extensively. My chest pains were not just "blown off" since I am young and assumed anxiety. I was given adequate blood testing and care. Human empathy SHINED at Straub. You are treated with human empathy and real emotion and care- which I think is one of the most important things needed if you are in a scary emergency situation. Good job Straub! Keep it up! I hope other ER's will follow your lead.
I've been there so many times, and the outcome is always the same: fantastic staff, great doctors, excellent care. They work so hard, and long hours, I still don't know how they do it. Thank you!
