Was in Fredericksburg for a soccer game and had to stop in. I grew up on Allman’s BBQ (Richmond location)
As soon as I stepped out of my car the smell of the BBQ had my mind racing with memories.
We order BBQ, original sauce, mac&cheese, coleslaw and onion rings to go. Everything was delicious!!
Great! The store was very clean (which is a welcome surprise for a small restaurant like this!) The staff was super friendly and sweet! I wish I caught their names. Food was also amazing! I had the burger and loved it. I also got the pulled pork to go and am super excited to eat it later!
Drove 1 and 1/2 hrs. to get good BBQ!! Our 2nd time here, was so good we had to come back and we will make more trips to try out their Brisket. We tried the Ribs and Pulled Pork, 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
We had pulled pork, ribs, and a “pit boss special sandwich”. Meats were delicious! Great sides, moist and perfect corn bread, and the brown sugar sauce was really good.
We are not locals but we do have family in the area. We've driven by this place many times but only today decided to try something new and stop in. I only wish we had found this place sooner. It beats the heck out of some of the chain barbecue joints. Allman's has been in this location since 1954. The building looks dated but it has a wonderful old-time type feel to it. They keep the menu limited which is great because they can concentrate on a few items and do them well. The choices are simple: pork, chicken or ribs. Their original, signature sauce, which they've been using since 1954, is vinegar-based. When they decided to start offering ribs that came up with a brown sugar based sauce which is thicker and a bit sweeter. Either sauce is a good choice for the pork. Speaking of the pork, it has a solid flavor and is nice and juicy. The chicken, in my opinion, does not require any sauce. I don't know what they mixed it with but man was it good. Most places have a sauce on the outside of the chicken for roasting but Allman's mixes something in with the pulled chicken. It was so juicy and flavorful. For sides I had onion rings and hush puppies. Both had a nice crunch. I also had coleslaw on the side. It was creamy but not too much and the cabbage was nice and crunchy, very fresh. Next time I want to try the ribs and pork stew, seasonal October to March.
