Do not come here if you're looking for one of those rustic, hole-in-the-wall, homey German restaurants that you drove down a long, winding driveway to get to that one time you were in Germany. Nope. This place is all that deliciousness with a whole lot of sass added. The food is phenomenal, even if you get the more traditional dishes. Sides are served in the traditional family style, and the menu is ROBUST. The jaeger sauce was a more creamy variety than I'm accustomed to, but it was delicious all the same. All of the meat was cooked to a tender goodness that required no more than a fork to cut. This place is a showstopper!

We've never been there before or have we tried much in the way of German food but, we will be returning again for more! Our server was very helpful in suggesting items and drinks and our food was nothing short of amazing! Everything was clean and the atmosphere screamed Germany. It's certainly not the cheapest place to eat but you get plenty. Highly recommended!

Very good food with great atmosphere and staff. Excellent beer too if I may add. We will definitely stop here again in the future!

We had reservations for 6pm Thursday evening, and were seated right away. All staff were friendly and provided good service. The wild mushroom soup is so delicious! The Alpine schnitzel is also amazing, big portions, had to take 1/2 home. Husband had the Rouladen, daughter had goulasch soup and they both really enjoyed both. Would reccomend this restaurant and we'll be back many times. I'd give 5 stars but the sides we had were a bit bland.

Fantastic menu and great service. A little slice of German cuisine in Virginia. Will visit again!

Been there twice with my girlfriend and her family. I was told it's "The best restaurant in the world," by them. It's some pretty hefty shoes to fill, so while this restaurant is probably far from that ultimate #1. I can say that The Alpine Chef sure is a great, no near perfect German restaurant. Their entrees are good, but what I go for is their cabbage or just generally sides in general. All their sides are excellent, but as you know I have my favorite of their cabbage.

Oh my GOODNESS. If you love German food this is a must. We showed up un announced with a party of 13. They quickly brought together some tables and got us seated. The sides were provided family style which allowed for a great sampling of what they have to offer. There was not a complaint in our party on anything. As a matter of fact, everyone was raving on what a great choice. Alexa, our server, was very sweet and attentive. Excellent experience.

Despite bring clearly understaffed, low on servers, no bartender, no bussing, no host/hostess, the experience and food was fantastic. Huge selection of German draft beers (the two I had were delicious) and authentic, perfectly prepared food in a wonderful, clearly German but not campy/cramped with nicknacks like many German eateries, environment. The spaetzle was the best I have ever had in a restaurant. The sausages were high quality and perfectly cooked sitting in a pile of seasoned sauerkraut that was something new to me but added a depth of flavor that was surprising. My son’s schnitzle and wife’s pork shank got such good reaction from them that I stole some of each and cleaned their plates when they couldn’t finish the job. Everything was so good it would have been a crime to leave anything on the plate. Lastly, the German chocolate cake we had for desert was very good and homemade. The Alpine Chef will be a mandatory stop for my family whenever we are anywhere nearby in the future.
