Review Mordecai - Chicago

Note there may not be A/C at the time of ur visit. For some that may not be an issue. Great food already. Definitely get the Bass, pork belly porchetta, wagyu beef tartare. The food was top notch. Atmosphere was good and our waitress was very attentive. Come here for a good meal and cocktails. The duke is a very interesting cocktail and if you’re adventurous definitely order

Nice to have this gem of a gastropub in the college bar jungle of Wrigley. Their cocktails are unique & fantastic. I love sitting at the bar & having drinks made by Isidro. He is funny, sweet, creative, attentive & skilled at making the cocktail you’re looking for. Love the tartare!

I used to walk past this place all the time before I realized it was its own stand-alone restaurant. Tried it out for the first time this past weekend and had my expectations blown out of the water. The ambiance was upscale, with a vintage baseball theme throughout. The staff was also amazing and recommended great pairings and dishes. They offer vintage cocktails with liquers from the 40's, 50's, etc. and have a great selection to choose from. Our group tried the oysters and bread platter for appetizers, and both were delish. We opted to add the tomato jam with our bread...would recommend trying it. For our main courses we got the mussels and frites, duck pasta, pesto pasta, and their renowned pork pasta (I can't remember the fancy name of the dish but it was offered as a special). Our entire table raved about their dishes, and we all want to make Mordecai's a regular spot for us. Fyi, the wine in the photo was recommended by our waitress, and it was fantastic 👌

I never write reviews. Ever. My second time here I was as blown away as my first, which was months ago. If you love cocktails - like real cocktails - this is your spot. You’ll be extra lucky if Corbin is working at the bar. If you’re thinking of trying a vintage cocktail, do it. Food is great and the experience is well worth it. Also the best escape in Wrigleyville and I’d argue best place to impress a date in that part of town. I travel around the country and try a lot of different places. This spot - I told stories about it for weeks and I’ll do it again this round. Can’t wait to be back in Chicago so I can drop in again. Note to self: Corbin works on Tuesday nights and that’s all I know.

My dad and I decided to stop in to Mordecai before a Cubs game for a beer. They don’t have the usual beer and drink selections, but the lager was just the light beer we were hoping for. To eat, we ordered cheese curds which came with an aioli and together they were very good. Definitely a more upscale bar than I would generally stop at before a game, but glad we went. I would go back in the future.

Easily the best cocktail bar in the neighborhood, really knowledgeable bartenders and high quality spirit bases. Surprisingly good values, especially the happy hour drink deals. There are also some amazing exotic drinks if you're looking to spend a little more. I like the flexibility to have a good night on a budget but also the depth to get into some more interesting things if time and budget allows.

I was here for a private event. I love the cozy atmosphere-not typical of the neighborhood. We were pretty packed in but the staff was great. I was acknowledged when I stepped to the bar and served in turn. We didn't have the opportunity to eat but will go back in the future to sample.

Delicious!! Everything we tried. The service was also great. Very cute place, great atmosphere. Vegetarian options. Definitely recommend!

Great spot for cocktails before or after a Wrigley event. Reservations helpful but not required.

I know this is a bold statement, but these were the best fried cheese curds I’ve ever had. The food, drinks, ambience are incredible. Rare find for Wrigleyville.

A delicious meal in a fun part of town. The staff at Mordecai is engaging and the food is creative and on point. The shrimp and grits have a wonderful flavor, textures and are a delicious blend of flavors. You cannot beat the selection of spirits or the creative bar team!

I love this place. The bartenders here are great at what they do! Cocktails are awesome, even the batched ones on tap. The warm olives was a bit weird. Maybe swap it for an olive tapenade or something similar to scratch that funky-salty-briny/dirty martini itch.

We sat down close to closing and this was no problem. They have small-ish portions with a nice atmosphere. I enjoyed the kale salad, rigatoni alla puttanesca, and the brussels sprouts. The cheese plate featured cheeses on the harder side, but was enjoyable.

Mordecai is one of the few upscale, yet nonchalant, spots in the neighborhood. Chef Michael Mckinnel carefully crafts inspired takes on classic American flare. If you have a favorite American food, you will find their elevated version to be even better. Even a simple BLT turns elegant with heirloom tomatoes & chili lime baconnaise, served with a bacon you'd mistake for a juicy brisket. The only thing I can critique was that they gave me a knife with my short ribs, which was so tender, I didn't utilize in the slightest. Their cocktail menu is just as remarkable, with many spirits aged longer than half of the Wrigleyville average clientele has been alive. The bar staff don't simply serve you a drink, they serve a story. Depending on your order, the staff will tell you something unique about the spirit, tasting notes, and things you'll take with you long after the buzz wears off. Whether you're in the mood for a stiff drink after work, or in the mood to pique your culinary curiosity with a loved one, Mordecai offers an unparalleled, memorable dining experience and is a breath of fresh air on Clark Street.

Cool atmosphere! There Bourbon list is a bit ridiculous in terms of pricing for a 2oz Pour. Great Selection, but more of a museum for whiskey. Bartender is great. Small food menu, but the Quality is great! Maybe come back someday, can't really recommend though!

Best corp holiday party ever: just my wife and me at Mordecai in the Zachary hotel across from Wrigley last eve. Sampled very rare/special bourbons (at least 3 finger's worth 😉). The 10yr Pappy Van Winkle’s Old Rip Van Winkle “Squat Bottle” ($4200/bottle!) stole the show. And the Weller CYPB (Craft-Your-Perfect-Bourbon 8yr crowd-sourced & contest-winning distillate @ $900/bottle) was seriously special. Their insanely knowledgeable "spirits archivist" Kris Peterson consulted on the tastings. He even served my straight tastings with a dropper of—get this—Kentucky branch water. Their vintage collection runs from $20-200/oz. And yes there was dinner: fantastic, perfectly cooked seabass in a light curry, decent burger & frites, and Cracker Jack beignets (of course). Our waiter John was first class as well. (Note: The true Cubs fan will get the "3 fingers" reference. Otherwise lookup who the restaurant, is named after.)

Came on a Cubs game day, was worried about having enough time to have a quality meal before the game. Any worries were quickly taken care of. Staff were great, drinks were both good quality and good pricing, food was tremendous and saved me from having to spend money on awful ballpark food
