Review Dos Urban Cantina - Chicago

I think good, but not great sums up our experience here well. We arrived with no reservation on a Friday evening, and chose to sit in the bar area which had a great vibe. The drinks were good, but the food was lacking. They have a relatively unique menu for a Mexican restaurant so we expected unique flavors, but unfortunately most items we tried fell flat. For example, there was no kick or heat to the habanero crema to offset the sweetness of the tamal tots. My chicken verde taco was probably the highlight of my meal, but it was also hard to eat. I would probably return for their happy hour if I were already in the neighborhood, but wouldn’t be eager to return for dinner. Service was on the slow side, but I didn’t factor that into my review because it was very clear they were short staffed like many other restaurants right now. They were hustling to attend to every table, and remained very friendly!

nom! Such a beautiful and relaxed atmosphere, me and my partner went late last night for a bite to eat and I felt like the whole restaurant gave me a warm fuzzy mezcal infused hug. Highly recommend - service was fast, servers were friendly and attentive, would recommend the cauliflower Buffalo wings and the tacos, will be returning, my only regret is not trying the dessert menu

Delicious, flavorful food, fantastic service and friendly staff. We had a really nice time grabbing dinner at the bar. Walking in on Friday around 8 it was super busy- but we were able to sit right away at the bar. We started with radishes and the tamal & had the dumplings- which were incredible! Then short rib and mushroom dish. The cocktails were good too. The bartender was cool, great service and made some great recommendations. The desserts were nice too- Chocolate cake was rich and slightly savory, a scoop of sweet potato ice cream and the coconut flan was light and bright served with ripe mango and mezcal meringue. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and glad I finally made it in. It definitely did not disappoint after reading all of the reviews, etc. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is some details in some of the dishes (not worth specifying because it wouldn't deter me from ordering, everything was good- just could have been a bit better, at least to get 5 stars).

Went for the first time, the service was great!. I tried the Octopus Fried Rice it was so delicious it was a little spicy but so good. I also had the Braised Short Rib, the meat was so tender and soft. They have a few specialty drinks as well. Can't wait to go back.

I decided to try the happy hour and was delighted by both the food and drinks. The staff was accommodating even though I didn't have a reservation. The small plates were really all I ordered and had a great time enjoying the different flavors from each dish. The drinks also were delicious and overall it was a great experience and will return again soon!

Dos is one of the best restaurants in Chicago. The carne asada burrito may be the best value in the entire city. It’s as big as your forearm and just beautiful, so tasty. The margaritas are wonderful, the buffet brunch is the bomb, the happy hour can’t be beat. The little patio is great and the room is big and spacious and warm. The staff is super nice and attentive, and nice to your kids if you have any. This is a perfect neighborhood place and we have been very lucky to have it in Logan. Viva Dos

Amazing experience, the food was delicious and the staff was exceptional. The owner of the restaurant was there, we originally thought he was a host when he took our coats but then he talked to us about how he started the restaurant! The chicken wings were our favorite dish. Try this place out, you won’t regret it.

Everything was very delicious. The tacos were huge and the tamale topping was amazing! The crispy chicken wings were also very very good.

Reasonably spiced draft margaritas, spicy tacos, what more could you ask for?? We loved this place, tried the chips and dip, charred leeks in almendrado, and the chicken tacos. The leeks were particularly interesting, I like how they featured a rather regional mole from Oaxaca on the menu. I really wish the had the huitlacoche quesadillas and the banana leaf ice cream! Will need to return to try those.

We call this place old faithful because it’s always there for us when we need it. The margaritas (esp. the spicy skinny) are......extremely good. The specials are always creative and wonderfully executed. Honestly, everything we’ve gotten has been so good. Thank you Dos 💗

Deliciousness is in the details. Sauce, cocktails, tortillas, service and atmosphere. Highly recommend for elevated Mexican cuisine.

Their happy hour is really great and one of few places that has it on Friday and Saturday! Margs are delicious and you have to get their dip trio! I was really impressed with the weekly specials we got last time. Compliments to the chef!

Dos Urban Cantina offers a solid twist on Mexican cuisine with new unique takes on traditional dishes and also offers authentic classics. Love the vibe and the staff. The current starter - smoked beet tostada hits all the flavor notes and delivers. Sweet corn tamal is delicious. Margaritas are great and their current Bang Bang Pie deserts shouldn't be missed.

When I tell you the food was sooooooo good! And the Key Lime pie had me dancing with every bite. It's a cute date night vibe. Side note: The owners Evan was awesome, he checked on us a number of times and made sure we were have a great experience. I will definitely be back!

Outstanding food and beverages... the fish tacos was everything!!!!

Everything from drinks to desert tasted so fresh and made from scratch. Love this place, definitely going back.

This was surprisingly one of the best vegan food experiences we've had in the city. My partner is often very particular about food and couldn't stop raving about how amazing this was! We got the brussels sprout special, which was surprisingly flavorful (my favorite). The Trio appetizer had a nice combination of different flavors. And the grilled veggies taco (there's also a burrito option) had this delicious dried chili pepper and sesame seed topping. We will be back!

This was my experience at the place Mr. Phil Vettel Recommended as the best, Mexican Restaurant next to Topolobampo. Well we made a reservation for 5 people they set let me see if we can accommodate you.... when we get there there was an empty patio and they were many tables available, the host walked to the table by herself, and then see point at our table, she set there is your table I was like wow what a host ....anyway. the server took like 10 minutes to come to our table, when he came hi wanted to take our drinks order right away we set sr. This is our first time here we were hoping that you would start by asking us That he explain the Menu very roodly, and say I will give you a few minutes for the drinks when he return we order drinks, appetizers, more drinks, then he want to take our menus away I set we have not order our entrees... and he reply I will live one menu on the table, I taught one menu for a party of 5 what kind of restaurant is this; server dropped the menus on the table, well slammed the menus to be more exact, the fir 2 appetizer and server set the kitchen is working on the rest of the appetizers then we desired to share the ones on the table then we will share the rest all the seldon this spooky server came and dropped desserts menus I pleply Sr. we have not order our entrees yet then took our entrees, one of my guest could not stand the service and politely excuse himself and left, we wanted to do the same but we announce who we were and did not wanted to go over the embarrassment, some of the appetizer were good others were terrible, the entrees, horrible presentations, and we or ther more drinks wist the server forgot, then order dessert and coffee, coffee was good desserts to sweet not very appetizing it was the apple crisp we ordered mainly because the menu read apple crisp with cajeta. what and awful experience I will never ever go back to this place and I will tell all my friends about this worse experience ever at urban dos cantina.

Simply incredible! We went for brunch and tried the huevos rancheros, croque mujer, and churro doughnut. We were just amazed. The beer list and cocktail list are very well thought through and had many things that we loved. The space is so well done, and just very comfortable. We must have been there for nearly two hours. Our server Kyle was so laid back and nice, but was also attentive to every detail. We felt like regulars by the end of brunch. Chef Brian came by to say hello. He was so humble and down to earth. This lead to such an enjoyable experience that made us look forward to returning. We are already planning to go back for dinner. Chicago is full of so many amazing restaurants. Dos truly stands out. The food, the atmosphere and the people created a flawless experience.

The service and ambience are terrific but, it it is the food that will "wow" you and keep you coming back again and again. This place has an incredible and completely unique menu that varies, it features the chef's own take on mexican inspired cuisine. Each dish is a work of art and deliciousness is the feature of every item. The shaved asparagus salad might be the best salad I've ever eaten. The grilled mushrooms with Oaxacan red mole is so deliciously meaty you would realize that there is no meat. The grilled vegetables were outstanding. Finished with two outstanding desserts. The tart with meringue and, if course, Jennifer's absolutely amazing chocolate cake, how can anything be that good. I can not wait to get back and see what else is new at Dos Urban Cantina.

My wife some friends and I were there last night. We like the place we thought the food was good the drinks were good and the ambience was great service was a bit slow. However, our waiter was great, but overall we like it. We will definitely comeback great job with the place. We love that these kind of restaurants are in our neighborhood now

Beautiful food that tastes delicious in a fun, relaxed environment with the owner greeting you before and after dinner. Bartenders were handsome! Highly recommend this place.

I wish I was able to taste everything on the menu. I enjoyed a special birthday dinner with friends last night. The food was delicious and the staff was wonderful. I look forward to tasting the brunch menu.

We are regulars at this place and can’t say enough about how stellar the food and cocktails are here. Our favorites include whatever mole they have, the pumpkin hummus (part of the trio), tamal tots, and whatever cocktail Jenna last dreamed up.

Tasty brunch in a beautiful space. Amazing scones, banana bread and churro donuts. The mimosa party was also great.

We went here for our company holiday party and everything was so wonderful from the appetizers to dessert to the waitstaff. One coworker had commented that she normally does not like bread pudding but loved everything she ate so far so she tried it and loved it too. There was not one bad thing we tried. My only regret is I did not leave enough room for more than a tiny bite of the wonderful egg nog ice cream and chocolate cake.

Such an AMAZING place. I wish i would've taken pics as I usually do. Had 4 shared plates and was impressed with all. Remember getting the street corn, a corn casserole, a salad like dish with beets and the cocktails were on point too. Great spot.

The shrimp taqueria were fantastic, the salmon cooked just right and the beef Babette a great take on steak and potatoes. The cocktails were imaginative and tasty! I loved the ambiance-spacious but still feeling intimate

Such a great place! The atmosphere and staff are fantastic. The food is absolutely incredible and the drinks and desserts are all amazing. I can't stop raving about it - I already have four different dinner dates planned to go back!

Visited the place for the first time. Good service and nice set up. Food was delicious and cocktail excellent

Beautiful setting, excellent food and a great bartender (Jacob) with a lot of personality. What else do you need? Try the Goat dish. Yum! You can go wrong with the chips and dip (one being pumpkin seed humus) There's street parking on Armitage just a few feet away. Happy Hour W-F. I was very casually dressed but you can definitely dress up to go here.

Everything about this place is excellent!! I had the carnitas and it was excellent. Waitress was very friendly & very attentive.

Everything was excellent... food, service & the place it was great. A must repeat!
