I recently dined at Workmen's Cafe on James Island, and it was an exceptional experience. The fried chicken plate with mashed potatoes and gravy surpassed my expectations; it's undoubtedly some of the best fried chicken I've ever had in Charleston. The restaurant's cozy atmosphere and friendly staff create a welcoming environment. Workmen's Cafe is offering a must-try experience for any local foodie. The meals are rich and flavorful, providing a delicious journey into the heart of soul food. For less than $8!! You can have a meal that will blow you away. Definitely deserving of a five-star review!

This is the absolute best down home food I have tasted in a long time! It reminded me of my grandmother’s, which comforted me. The fried chicken was hot and juicy and the biscuit was like a piece of cake😩🤤😍

Today my wife and I along with our three children (8y, 11y, 12y) stopped at the Workmen's Cafe. We were about 50 min away on the other side of Charlestown on vacation. We were looking for great local southern cooking. We were not disappointed. Angie (owner) was wonderful. We saw the website said the hours of operation were until 4pm but it appeared it was closed at 2pm. We arrived 1:55pm but Angie graciously told us to come in and we can get food to go to take home. We had fried chicken, ribs, pork chop, red rice, Mac n Cheese and peach cobbler (OMG...). Fried chicken one of the best I've had (juicy and moist) and the ribs fell off the bone as I picked them up. Don't forget the dessert! She was out of cornbread when we were there but I heard it was also amazing. Sweet tea was yep, you guessed it... On par of the south! Yum. Angie fixed us up a variety of food. She was so nice to our kids, giving them samples of food as they so patiently waited for such great smelling Mac and cheese! We went 45 min out of the way to go here and it was well worth it. The price was very reasonable and Angie was wonderful! Thanks for making our experience so great and making us feel welcomed today.

Can’t wait to return. From the Lima beans, to the fried fish… every bite was amazing. The homemade lemonade was one of the best I ever had. She established this business in 2001, and has done her own thing mainly til this day. Talk about a hard working woman… this is her! #SupportBlackBusinesses

Workman's Cafe is a great James Island meal and experience. Go get some of Angie's delicious southern food! I've been going for years, and the kids love it too. She has different main courses, veggies, and desserts depending on the day of the week. Get the peach cobbler if she has it! The honey butter biscuits are so yummy. True to it's name, you'll see local workers eating there for lunch. The building and decor is super simple. I suggest you find this unique little restaurant, and have a great lunch you can't get anywhere else!! (Would not recommend it for vegetarians since many of the veggies are cooked with meat.)

Some of the best soul food in Charleston, and for a good price. Locals know it. The cornbread in particular was amazing, and the fried shrimp was very good. The broccoli casserole was much better than I expected it to be. This restaurant is a must.
