I suppose if I wrote a bad review others may not try it and the crowd would be smaller. However, this place was so good I couldn't live with myself if I did that. While there was a crowd, the staff was efficient and very helpful. The line moved very quickly, and boy was it worth it! (We drove over 2 hours to get there).
I consider myself a bit of an oyster fanatic, usually able to tell where an oyster came from by how it tastes. I had the all you can eat steamed oysters. All kidding aside, the very best I've ever had. The guy cooking in the Oyster Room was great! He made me feel like I was at a friend's house for a big roast.
Don't change anything! The food, the vibe of the place... It was perfect. I commented to my wife that there would probably be a room in Heaven just like that. Going back next week!
This is my go to place whenever I want to impress out of town guests! It’s casual and one of the most beautiful places to watch the sunset! I was there Friday night and we were treated to dolphins swimming by the dock. The staff is friendly and the service is great. Their beer sek cation is amazing filled with local brews to drink down! Come and enjoy this fabulous place that is great!
Bowen's Island Restaurant in South Carolina is a must-visit for seafood lovers. Set on a picturesque waterfront, the rustic ambiance is inviting, and the outdoor deck offers stunning sunset views. The menu is a tribute to Southern cuisine, with the oysters being a showstopper—fresh, juicy, and full of flavor. Other standouts include shrimp and grits, blending tradition with exceptional ingredients. The staff are knowledgeable and eager to tailor recommendations to your liking. Round out your meal with a local craft beer or wine. All in all, the restaurant delivers a perfect blend of delicious food, warm service, and breathtaking views.
It's the epitome of the 'local' feel. We had a great time. Yes it's expensive, about $30 for a dinner plate, but their crab cakes are quite delicious.
The view is exceptional. It's a great atmosphere. Don't miss this one.
Authentic low country cuisine. Beautiful views of the sunset. Order at the bar and serve yourself. No frills, delicious, stuff your face seafood. Sometimes they have specials but don't expect anything fancy here. Pot holes and gravel roads lead you in so driver beware. Fresh oysters and amazing shrimp and grits!
We had no clue this place was here. We had come for a boat tour. After touring, we decided to eat here. There was a line to the outside door. It moved quickly. I loved how they took orders, you made your drink , and they brought your order out within 15 minutes. The food was fresh, hot, and not greasy. The place was packed and the service was on spot! We will definitely be recommending this restaurant and will return on future visits.
Cute restaurant on the river. Nice fresh seafood. The boiled peanuts were really good, as well as the key lime pie. The shrimp was fresh, and the crab cake had lots of crab. The coleslaw left a bit to be desired as was not dressed enough in my opinion.
A real American classic, Bowens Island restaurant has been serving great seafood since 1946. In 2023, it’s still going strong.
The plates are abundant. The beer selection is great. The views are beautiful, especially around sunset.
Beautiful place to unwind after a day on the beach that’s farther away from the touristy areas. Went for dinner there after visiting folly beach and got a shrimp platter with fish. It was very good. Also tried the crab cakes and crab dip which were great. Everything tasted fresh and had beautiful views on the balcony
Hadn’t been here since before the fire and the restaurant is a little different but still the same great food! In my opinion this place captures the epitome of lowcountry seafood better than most. Fried food on a paper plate with squirt bottles of sauce and while you sit on a deck looking over the marsh. Forget the fancy stuff this is way seafood is meant to be enjoyed!
Second visit for us... The fried fish was not what we expected, it was much more memorable the first time and sadly the restaurant was far busier then. The boiled shrimp was delicious, and the kids enjoyed their Giant serving of chicken tenders. We all left full, just the fish was not as expected today. We will be back...
Food is great and they have big amount for one person. But the service could have been better. It take so long and very long line and the person in the cashier dissappear and come back after a few mins. Since we are 10 people it takes awhile, some got their food early and some still waiting. Hopefully they have more people serving or more staff receiving food order. But the food and place is great.
