This has been one of my favorite spots since we went to the soft opening a couple years ago. The staff is always amazing. You are typically greeted by one of the owners C.K. He is great. The staff is always amazing. We have had Tanner as our server several times and he is fantastic. The food is so good that we always order so much more than we can eat, because we never mind having leftovers. Must haves for first timers:
- soup dumplings
- tangerine peel beef
- gong bai chicken
- wok tossed okra
- dry fried green beans
It’s high end Chinese with nice ambiance and a laid back feel. The house music is hip hop and it’s amazing.
Pro tip: if you aren’t drinking alcohol they have grape soda on the fountain, which is surprisingly awesome with the food.
Never been to Austin before and my husband found this gem.
Dim Sum yummy! You have to try the soup dumplings. Try one first without the dipping sauce. You get the whole deliciousness.
The special fish on the menu was a Mediterranean Bass. The whole fish. He loved it. So easy to remove the bones. The staff made two cuts and then opened one side to lay the fish flat on the plate. Covered in cilantro.
I ordered and shared the twice baked pork. Great taste with just a push of spice. We also shared an order of vegetable stir fried rice. I wanted the whole bowl my self.
Definitely a place for work drinks/dinner, date nights and family friendly.
The dishes are prepared family style and we had plenty to take home with us.
This place is absolutely outstanding! It offers exceptional value for your money. On my second visit to Wu Chow, I was once again impressed by the consistently high food quality. We indulged in the chicken dumplings, which were impeccably fresh and incredibly delicious. The crispy chicken with Szechuan pepper provided the perfect balance of zing without being overly spicy. However, the real stars of the meal were the cumin lamb and the chili chicken – simply the best! I highly recommend these two dishes, especially when paired with their fragrant fried rice. The portions are generously sized and easily satisfy two hungry diners. Overall, this establishment is a gem. They also have a wide variety of cocktails and beer/wines! The ambiance is delightful, and their prices are very reasonable. If you're visiting Austin, I wholeheartedly endorse this place. It's a culinary delight!
Wu chow is our favorite place for dinner in Austin. We first tried 4 years ago, and totally fall in love with it. I like their atmosphere as well. Such a nice romance place that with delicious food. Some dishes that highly recommended.
- Beef chow fun, everyone loves it, right?! It is the best main dish we ever tried in different Chinese Cuisine. The favor is just right, not too much or too light.
- Chengdu Chili Chicken, spicy warning, but it's so good! Tender chicken breast with some spicy carrots, cabbages and beans. We were glad that this chili chicken dish has some veggies in it, so we are able to order one more meat dish!
- Honey Pecan Gulf Prawn, huge prawn! Love this dish at the first try!
Love this place. BUT too hard to order, because we would like to try all dishes! 100% recommended.
Good food, I would categorize it as Americanized Chinese food in a good way. Not what I typically look for but the flavors were very good and beef and chicken was very tender. It was a good change between going beef brisket hopping in Austin. I can recommend it. Dim sum only in the evening btw.
So, here's the scoop on Woo Child – the dim sum and Sichuan wizardry down in downtown Austin. Now, I held off on this review because, let's face it, Austin can sometimes prioritize looking cool over serving up killer food. But hold onto your chopsticks, because Woo Child is about to flip that script.
This place doesn't just serve dim sum; it throws a dim sum party in your mouth, and Sichuan cuisine here is like a flavor rollercoaster you never want to end. In a town where aesthetics often steal the show, Woo Child goes, "Hold my hot sauce," and cranks up the taste to 11.
After several trips, I can confidently say Woo Child isn't just a restaurant; it's a pleasure cruise for your taste buds. It's like they took the food game, did a little dance, and set a whole new standard. So, if you're tired of the same old foodie song and dance, Woo Child is the downtown maestro conducting a symphony of flavors that'll make your taste buds sing.
i had a great time at Wu Chow. I would absolutely recommend Wu Chow to any vegans or vegetarians. The server was able to ensure everything was vegan before it came out and there were a number of options.
The service was great, the happy hour wine was good, and the food was delicious. The Sichuan Braised Eggplant was amazing.
Our server was attentive and the food came out quick. The server was able to make great recommendations for vegan options. If you’re a vegan i would 1000% recommend and just ask your server which meat options can be replaced with tofu.
I stumbled on this WU Chow while looking for a gluten-free Chinese food options. The menu online had a nice variety so I decided to go for it.
Something to note when driving, there are several trees making it difficult to see the small red sign so be aware while navigating. If you're on the sidewalk, you can't miss it. There is valet but it's not close to the entrance; you're better off going to the small lot at San Antonio St. and 5th. It's well lit and had plenty of spaces on a Thursday evening around 7 pm.
The ambiance was really nice! There's basically a wall of windows letting so much natural light in and overlooking the outdoor dining area. However, it's not too bright inside and still has a low-light feel.
Staff was really friendly and we were seated quickly. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made some great recommendations. She was attentive, asked about allergies beforehand, and answered my questions. My water glass was never empty and cocktails were refreshing.
I love that everything comes out on "share" plates. This is great for those dining with a group of people and want to try various items... especially if you can't decide what you want. All of the share dishes come out with serving utensils so that no one is using their personal items.
That being said, the food was phenomenal. I had been craving good Chinese food because it's a rare find when you can't have gluten. This place really hit the spot and I will definitely be returning.
Came in for my sisters graduation lunch and had a wonderful experience. Walked in and was seated outside in the patio area where our table was ready for us. Beautiful patio, excellent customer service provided by Taylor, clean, and good quality food. Taylor was extra busy but very helpful and patient with our ordering process. Definitely would recommend and be back again soon. 🔥
Great Chinese restaurant. We ordered Hot and Sour Soup, Ma Po Tofu and Spicy Cabbage. Taste are great and portion is right for two. Did not have enough space to try other food and will definitely come back next time to try more food. Service is also excellent.
The food and ambience was great, exactly what we were hoping for. The soup dumplings were awesome and the duck was very tasty a great special dish. Will definitely be back.
We had an amazing experience with Brandon as our server. He was so thoughtful we were having a weekend getaway to celebrate my birthday and my daughter's graduation and he made it so extra special. We ate on the patio. Perfect weather and great experience. Food is prepared with care. Very flavorful.
