Review Culinary Dropout - Austin

Probably the best place I visited in Austin. The food was great, there’s so many activities here and I love the concept of everything being made in house. The people that work there are also really hot which is like not the point but it is a plus. Our server was Jessie and she was such a sweet heart. Highly recommend!

Loved the chicken pesto pasta here! Also ordered the soft provolone fondue with brioche bread. It was good but I personally would have liked the cheese to be a little flavorful. Went there on a Sunday night and it was still a bit busy, service was slightly slow. The dessert was also decent.

Glad we decided to try this place out! I had been there long ago with some friends but this time we made it a date night. Made a reservation and we arrived early was a bit of a mess up but nothing that the staff couldn’t fix. We enjoyed our stay with live music as well. Worth the time and more than likely returning soon.

Fun and lively place for drinks, sports, and food. Our server was prompt and helpful in selecting our food and beers. There’s plenty of outdoor dog friendly seating with heaters in the winter months. This is a fun place to hang out when you’re at the Domain.

Came here to celebrate a 50th birthday party. Because of the size of our party (14), our reservation had to be treated like a private event but I was so glad we did! Matthew, via email, was able to answer all my questions. There was a minimum to be spent but it all worked out. We had our table for 2.5 hours so I was able to confirm with Matthew that we could order drinks and apps and then possibly go enjoy some games before ordering dinner and dessert. It worked out perfectly! Trent was super patient with us and no one was ever without a drink in hand. The food!! Every dish was a hit! I think we ordered every appetizer and then some on the menu so some couples shared their entrees and the plates were beautifully split without charge. That was very much appreciated!! Great atmosphere, amazing food and service! This will be our go to place when visiting Austin!

Split a meatloaf dish and wedge salad. We followed this with a monkey bread dessert. Everything tasted fresh and the servers were polished and polite. The meatloaf was tender, savory and topped with a red sauce. The sides were fine. The money bread was a bit underwhelming. The vanilla bean ice cream was on point.

5 min walk from our hotel in The Domain. Excellent food!! The servers were beautiful, guys & gals! Trendy place, glass kitchen. Absolutely packed at 130 in the afternoon.

Came in around 10am on a Sunday and there were plenty of seats inside and on patio. Very spacious. The patio had misting fans. They have live bands inside and with speakers on the patio, we could still enjoy it. Our servers were all very attentive and friendly. We did the build your own antipasti plate. The meats/ cheeses doesn't come with bread or Crackers, so make sure to order the crusty bread with garlic oil and balsamic drizzle. The gochujang Brussels sprouts were not overpowering and had a nice crunch. The antipasti/ snacks are bite size snacks and each one is good for 2 people to share as a starter. The hot wings were good but not spicy at all (Buffalo sauce and honey mustard). The soft pretzels with warm provolone fondue dip were a popular item so we gave it a try. But was our least favorite.

We came here on a busy Saturday evening and were promptly seated at a table that gave us a great view for people watching and the football game of course! There were games for my teenagers to occupy themselves while the food was being prepared (which was great!) Alexa was kind and attentive! We had a great time and will def come again. P.S. blueberry draft beer was delicious!!!

BBQ Pork Belly Nachos were all the best of the flavor combination you hope for. The Soft Pretzel and Fondue has a well served reputation as a best loved item. Trendy on point open air location.

The dining experience was far beyond my expectations. I had always walked by this restaurant when shopping locally at The Domain, and always observed that the restaurant had a constant ebb and flow of customers. I finally decided to try them for my birthday lunch, and I could not be happier with that decision. I tried the vegan curry dish, the flavors were exquisite. The ginger was a tad bit sharp, but the flavors of the shiitake mushroom and sweet potato entangled with the snap peas and black rice broth certainly made up for it. This dish was exquisite and I would dine again and again here, JUST for that spicy vegan curry. My father and brother shared the 36-HOUR pork ribs given we had appetizers prior to lunch— and it’s a large portion enough for two people if you are not ravishingly starving. The service provided by the hosts and wait staff was subpar, and I highly recommend this spot for a quick lunch or a get together with some friends. It has a nice ambience of an outdoor bar, but also the comfort of a dine in restaurant. I’ll be sure to return here! Update DECEMBER 2023: this has become one of my fave go-to comfort foods when I am unable to make a meal at home. Not only the staff extremely accommodating, they are super attentive and supportive in helping you point you to the right choice, even own Flower Child next door!

Went for lunch, indoor seating had a 15 minute wait so we sat outside which was ok because the fans and misters kept us cool. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I got the crispy chicken katsu sandwich and my husband the turkey pastrami sandwich, both were delicious as was the pretzel rolls with fondue.

culinary Dropout at the Domain is a great place to go with friends and coworkers. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The food is delicious, with a focus on classic American dishes with a twist. The fried chicken is my personal favorite, but there are plenty of other options to choose from, including burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. The service is friendly and attentive, and the prices are reasonable. One downside of Culinary Dropout is that parking can be tough. The restaurant is located in a busy area, and the parking lot can fill up quickly. However, there are a few other parking garages nearby, so you should be able to find a spot if you're willing to walk a few minutes. Overall, I highly recommend Culinary Dropout for a casual meal with friends or coworkers. The food is great, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait for parking.

We went on a Saturday morning and made a reservation. No wait at all and we were sat promptly when arrived. I had a Pom passion mimosa that was wonderful and the smokehouse hash. They brought out a side of fries for my daughter before the rest of our food and it helped entertain her. At the end, a manager came over and made silly faces at her. They had a great time and my daughter kept looking for her the rest of the time we were there. Great place and cute area!

Very popular spot to get food and a drink. They have live music (on Friday evenings). Menu is good, feels limited. Was not impressed with the mashed potatoes but the fried chicken with honey over it is absolutely incredible. Love the interior decor! Biggest complaint: parking is an event for sure.

Culinary Dropout is family fun with ping pong, foosball , corn hole, and occasional live music. This is our family go-to on nights when none of us can agree on what to eat and I just CAN’T do another kid place. I like the deviled egg starter even though deviled eggs have already had their moment. The Rainbow trout is my go to here. My so. Loves the chicken tenders and sports / chive tv they have everywhere. My daughter loves the burgers. We all leave happy.

This place was super cute! I love this outdoor seating options. My food and drink were extremely fresh and flavorful.

Everyone was phenomenal and so welcoming. The host and hostess were able to accommodate us, combining two parties of two reservations into a foursome. Billy was our server and he was extremely knowledgeable and had great recommendations. For it being an opening service we expected the drinks and food to take a while or have some mess ups, but everything came out rather quick and was absolutely outstanding. The live music wasn't over bearing and was a nice touch to the ambience. I saw games outside on the patio so it definitely looks like it will be an awesome Sunday brunch spot. We had a so-so experience at the Culinary Dropout in Vegas a few years back so we were not expecting to be blown away by the Austin one. We were pleasantly surprised, have told many of our friends about it and will definitely be back often! Thanks for an all around great experience. Recommendations: black mussels, potato chips, kale/Brussel sprout salad, bistro steak, Korean tips, turkey pastrami sandwich, and banana pudding pie to wrap it up! Drinks: El Diablo, Jalapeño Honey Limonada, and something with strawberries and gin (sorry, I don't remember the name of that one!) Culinary Dropout will be a new favorite in Austin!

Who serves a sad looking cheese plate of runny pimento cheese spread, a cheap log of cheddar and slice of Manchego with a small drop of raisin relish and nothing to eat with it? No crackers, flat bread etc. We had to order bread sticks extra. Still not useable for the cheeses served. We also ordered the crusty bread. Tasted like it was seasoned with garlic salt not real garlic. Too salty. Smoked salmon bruschetta also looked like cat food on top of bread. Outside seating was nice but very loud. This place is hyped up more than it is tasty.

I am a big foody and bar scene person and I have never seen such poor service at a bar. We had 3 people in our group sitting at the bar. This place was not busy last night and it was like pulling teeth to get bartenders attention to get drinks. Several bartenders made eye contact and then quickly turned around and went on doing something else. We only had 2 drinks a piece in the two hours we were there so we had empty beer glasses for a majority of the time. That is money lost for the establishment and not good to get loyal customers. We will never go back. Food was good but it doesn't matter when service is that horrible.

I liked the atmosphere and style of the place more than the food but the food was still good. We enjoyed playing ping pong and corn hole while waiting for our food. The service was friendly and acceptable. Nothing I would rave about but no complaints either. We'd go back again for sure.

When you see a name “culinary dropout” take it at face value. The food was terrible even the drinks from the bar were so bad, we couldn’t even finish them. When we told the waitress how bad the food and the drinks were, she laughed it off, looked at my 21 year old daughter and told her that the drink she picked was more for a “mature drinker”. Are you fucking kidding me?? They need some “mature staff”!!!!! Since when did a millennial insulting the customer become acceptable?? Maybe the Culinary Dropout only hires high school dropouts!!! If you want to throw your money away....it’ll be better spent in the park’s wishing well!!!

Someone accidentally slammed my two year old daughters fingers in the door in the restroom, and the staff was wonderful about seeing if she was okay. I think at least 4-5 different staff members asked if she was okay and offered her fruit and crackers and made sure she had ice for her hands and was taken care of. The manager even came by to make sure all was okay, just a great staff as a whole all while on a busy Sunday rush. Plus the food and atmosphere was amazing like always. Great place & people!!

Street tacos are awful. Whatever side dish that goes with it is disgusting. Salmon steak is inedible. Awful service. Whoever the culinary dropout was that started the restaurant needs to go back and fish school.

Visited the Phoenix location first and the manager informed us that they were opening in Austin! It is a perfect fit for our city! Great place to hangout for a few hours, play cornhole, catch some live music, etc. then top it off with great food!

So good, great service & Fun atmosphere! Food was great and drinks even better. Loved the devils eggs and the “between you me” drink was very yummy.

Great place to eat any meal of the day. Very friendly staff.

Too salty, mixes of some odd things, hence “dropout” I guess it’s a trendy place to try not good, let alone great rating for about 8 of us

Had an awesome time here! First time in North Side Rock Rose, our server, Damian, was incredibly welcoming and helpful with menu and cocktail suggestions as well as some funny anecdotes. Could not have asked for a better first experience, I will be back!

The food, drinks, and atmosphere were great. Excellent service as well. A must to check out while in Austin. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Culinary Dropout is one of my fave places now to go in Austin! Great food and amazing service! We got to meet the manager Jimmy Calhoun and he completely went above and beyond, we had the best time! Can't wait to come back:)

Great food, good drinks, really fun ambient with live music and games! Everything comes together to make this place a 5 star experience.

Great menu and good drinks but really frustrating service - management should consider training for hosts and wait staff that empower them to think outside of the box in the moment. It's dinner not a doctors visit - shouldn't be that rigid in your approach and customer service !
