On Friday, March 19th, 2010 and to surprisingly little fanfare, a locally owned and operated burger restaurant by the name of Five Star Burgers launched in Albuquerque’s North Towne Plaza at Academy and Wyoming.  Its opening predated by about a week, the launch of a similarly named burger establishment, an east coast based interloper named Five Guys which has exploded across the country with nearly 600 locations in 39 states.  The latter opening was greeted with ruffles and flourishes, pomp and circumstance and throngs of curiosity-seekers and “chain gangs.”

A very solid burger for ABQ. Given the organic/grass fed/sustainable/gourmet burger nirvana you can find around the rest of the country right now, I hope they continue to up their game. Sides are interesting and fun, and beers and drinks are high quality.

The best burger in Albuquerque. (With the possible exception of the burger from Rustic Truck.) Five Star's burgers are always juicy and full of beefy flavor. Amazingly, this even applies to their turkey burger. I generally hate turkey burgers, but the one at Five Star is so flavorful it actually competes with their beef burger.

The downside of Five Star is that the French fries are only okay. Try the homemade potato chips instead, served with a drizzle of blue cheese sauce. They are only listed on the Happy Hour menu, but are available anytime. If you go with fries, get a mixed cart of regular and sweet-potato fries and dip them in the divine green-chile mayo.

I have been not coming here for years because my wife is a vegetarian. We were at whole foods and decided "what the hey, let's see if they have something for each of us". They do. I feel like I have denied myself many delicious burgers by not coming here. She had a portobello stack. That think had an awesome fried green chile plank on it. She was afraid it was a fish filet at first. She was super happy. I had a burger that dripped medium rare goodness down my arm with bacon and avocado (five star burger +avo). And really I have two words for anyone that bothers to read this: green chile mayo. Ok that is three words but holy crap it was awesome. Eat here.

Worth trying out. There are many burger joints in town and it can get pretty blurry to remember which burger was good where but this place is worth trying out. My husband likes the Buffalo burger. The Mushroom burger is good for vegetarians and they even serve a mean Grilled cheese. What I like is the spicy green chili mayo they use. I put it on my burger and the fries.
The place isn't huge so it gets packed really fast and we once had to wait about 2 hours - everyone raved and made us stay saying it would be worth it. Let me get something straight. the burgers are good but never worth that long of a wait..
The only con is the wait staff not friendly. This is a big deal for me because it can ruin your experience and you are paying a pretty penny so they should try harder.
Even if it isn't great its still a pretty good burger worth trying though

Fab Food, Fab Prices. I went to purchase some gift cards because I was referred by multiple people. I opened the Happy Hour Menu...prices were AMAZING!...I decided to try just a slider with Cheese and some Sweet Potato Fries...soooooooooooooo great! The service was professional and very helpful. Hands down I'll go there again. And, for every $20.00 gift cert I got, I think I got 5.00 additional on another card. Great dive...will be back!

Solid Burger, even better happy hour.. It's a bit overpriced, but the burgers are pretty good. I would suggest you go for the happy hour with friends or family. One of the best happy hours in Albuquerque! Beer is half off, and great snack food. If your in the neighborhood and want to spend 10 bucks on a burger and not be disappointed i would stop here. But wouldn't go out of my way unless it's for the happy hour.

A good solid burger. Two burgers and a single order of fries cost $23 so be prepared, but the quality was very good nearly across the board. The patty/bun are excellent and perfectly cooked but the toppings were a real weak point (almost cafeteria style) and very disappointing at the price point, they need to be fattened up. The fries are excellent and perfectly prepped so good work there, but if your going to use the wire serving baskets I suggest cleaning them once in a while as ours was nasty as was the one at the next table. The interior left a lot to be desired, seemed rather unfinished at best and had no direction, seemed as if you ran out of money and stopped a third of the way through the job. Staff was not bad although at one point I counted four sitting at the bar jabbering away for a solid ten minutes while the rest had hustle and were talking care of folks, (even the busboy sat two tables while those four kept jabbering).

Patty *****
Bun *****
Toppings * (weak)
Fries ***** (clean your baskets!)
Staff ***
Atmosphere * (call me when you make up your mind & finish)
Price ** (go the extras and you could be 5 star)

Growing up in NE Albuquerque, 5 Star Burger used to be my favorite burger spot. And once I turned 21, obviously turned into a great spot for happy hour drinks. Finally coming back and visiting Albuquerque after several years, I was glad to see this spot still busy during happy hour. I could be wrong but the burgers do seem a bit smaller than I remember and not as amazing. It’s still a solid burger but I can’t really complain about their happy hour pricing!

We always enjoy this place. The burgers are delicious and filling and they have a nice variety of options. My only complaint is with the buns: they tend to fall apart easily and/or get so soggy from the juicy burgers that they become a mess after a few bites. Happy hour menu is great and very reasonable.

A unforgettable lunchtime experience! The friendly bartender recommended the Taos burger. It was a masterful combination. The perfectly cooked burger, crispy green chile, and BBQ sauce was a smashing success and restored my faith in burger restaurants today! What a unique and well executed treat. The fry and sweet potato fry mix was a delight especially the maple cream sauce! I won’t be forgetting this burger anytime soon. Excellent service and very clean bar.

I went here to have lunch after a hard day of work. Had a 5 star burger and small fries. Both were fresh and delicious. Great bun, patty and condiments. I hadn't been to this place in over 10 years. A great local burger joint with beer.

Burgers have been good each time and takeout orders correct. Picking up takeout could go smoother. Took me speaking with 4 people, including the manager just for someone to hand me the bag that was sitting at the bar when I walked in. It was not busy.

10/21: 5 stars for well...5 Star (or Five Star) I am not a burger lover but this place captured my attention and taste buds. Neighborhood eatery that was crowded for lunch, but got a table right away. Yes there is patio seating when available. Although the restaurant seemed a tad dark in lighting (maybe because of Halloween, idk...) it was extremely clean, friendly staff and I enjoyed that hormone-free, chemical-free, unfiltered burger. Drink before you eat, right?! Had a cold strawberry mimosa. And, here comes the food part 😁. I ordered the 5 Star Burger that has gorgonzola cheese, applewood smoked bacon and garnish on the side. Yummy thick meat in the mouth for $10.50. Fries or onion rings $2-$4 extra, just letting you know well in advanced. Overall, yes, definitely recommend 5* Burger. Enjoy

This was pretty fantastic food. There were a lot of options on their burger menu. I ended up starting with the old-timer, and adding cheese and bacon. It was *so* good! Go with it I had a blood orange cider. That was a great combo. You would have also been great with a beer, or with a pair or apple cider. So there you go! I highly recommend Five Star Burgers.
