Pretty Good Lexington Style BBQ Sandwich, Nice Value. This is a fairly new addition to the BBQ scene in Wilkes County, and there are some good things here, but a true NC BBQ joint, it ain't - it's kinda like Applebees met a sports bar, and they decided to serve pig.
It is located in one of the myriad of strip shopping areas on that section of US Highway 421 that has always been a crowded nightmare, and it has gotten even worse. The outside is bright & shiny, while the inside is a little dark, and a tad noisy.
They describe their chopped barbecue pork as Lexington style, and it is probably closer to that style than any other - though the red "BBQ" slaw is rather thin, and not as sharp tasting as most versions, and the sauce is a sweeter, tomato based sauce, though it does have some very nice spiciness to it. The meat is moderately chopped, tender, but with no hint of smokiness. The sandwich goes for $4, and is huge - a fully loaded 5 inch bun. definitely would get the bad boy again.
Food is not bad but the music is way to loud to enjoy your meal
My wife and I split the large combo platter. The food and service were both exemplary. I've had barbecue all over the country and I would put Tipton's up against any other barbecue I've ever had. The service was fantastic, our server (Megan) did a wonderful job and I would recommend Tipton's with no reservations whatsoever.
My First Time @ Tipton's BBQ. And certainly not my last. I had pulled pork, okra, slaw, and potato salad. The pork was tender and succulent. The okra was lightly breaded, and fresh. The potato salad was the very best I have ever eaten! I love to cook, and I would venture to say that it is even better than mine. I just wish we had one in Hickory, NC!
Awesome place to eat. I stopped there with the fam on the way to boone. I am from Lexington so I thought oh no it's not the same. I was wrong. Wow. The BBQ would be the best in Lexington or close to it. which is saying something. I had a combo plate and the smoked chiken is the bomb. Ribs were sweet and spicy at the same time. I loved them. Lots of awesome sides, and they have pork skins yummy.
We love to stop here when visiting. Good food, I recomend the onion rings.
Really enjoyed the food at Tipton's. I got the pulled pork and the potato salad. Both had great flavor and where really good. I liked the regular sauce. My wife and daughter got the smoked turkey. One got mac and cheese and the other got chips and ranch dip. All the sides really great.
My girlfriend and I went there after visiting the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was laid back/relaxed. All I can say is We'll be back!
Sweet tea in mason jars, sweet corn nuggets with ranch dip for an intro. Being from the south and brought up on bbq, these fell into "as expected" for any respectable southern bbq joint. My wife had the jumbo Q sandwich. She commented that the chopped was kinda dry. Came with red slaw which was tasty and her side was okra which seemed to lack flavor but was cooked well. A touch of salt and it was back on point. Obviously, no southern seasoning in the batter. I had the three little pigs with baked beans. Chose pulled pork, chicken dark meat, brisket. They have choices of 3 sauces. Vinegar, sweet, smoke. They are pretty much as advertised but the smoke sauce is a cut of mostly vinegar with a touch of sweet which was my go to here. Of the the meat option, the pulled pork was my favorite. All were cooked well. The brisket had a little more fat (London broil ish) than my taste and the chicken was way Smokey! Smoke smoke smoked Smokey! An hour later, burp smoke, pee smoke, sweat smoke, poot smoke. That Smokey! Ate way more than I should. Was a good meal. They ran out of collared greens for my order though. Sad face. Next time, sticking with the pulled pork or Will try the ribs or wings.
I ordered the tipsy Texan and it was Great! The sandwich had brisket, sausage, coleslaw, and onions on it. It was very tasteful. I ordered okra as my side and it was cooked just right. I was too full to finish my meal but I will go back.
Been coming here since they opened and the food has ALWAYS been awesome. The service is excellent as well.
We like the salad bar, thick dressing home made croutons. We came in today enjoyed the food and great service. But if I had had a child with me I would have walked out. The music playing had language I don't like more less a child hearing. My husband even commented about what a bad choice of music for a restaurant.
Excellent BBQ. A portion of my pulled meat included several selections of crust. My portion contained meat from several sections on the pig. Very moist, full flavor excellent smoke taste. Hush puppies were very good. Cute decor. We will be back.
Not bad at all! I got the brisket platter with chips and ranch. It was good and filling. I've had better brisket but would still get it again. My wife got a turkey sandwich that she liked too.
Excellent BBQ with true southern values. Eat here!
We eat here often when we are in Wilkesboro. Best BBQ I have ever eaten. Being from Texas I am not the authority on pork, but dang if it is not good. The brisket is just like back home. Smokey with lots of bark. Ribs are probably the best I have ever eaten. Wow. Place has a good feel and staff was very very attentive. Check it out.
