Really good burger. We ordered the southern burger. The onions and pimento cheese were a great combination. If we were to return to find an upgrade to the hamburger buns it would definitely be a 5 star burger. All high quality ingredients but a cheap bun that didn't survive to the end. Definitely recommend their fries. The chips were just OK.
Fried cheese curds were really good. The desserts didn't disappoint either.
Great beer and mixed drink options available . We will definitely return when we're in the area.
We love this place. Very clean, personable staff. Love the local historical pictures too. And the local maps, books, etc.
If you are vegetarian, they do have several menu options. (THANK YOU!)
The lasagna is all cheese as well -today anyway (so if you DO want beef in yours, ask the server?). Pasta’s do not include a salad or bread though.
I always order the Black Bean burger with house fries . Around $11.50 now. Unless you like using lots of napkins, ask for the sauce on the side? I’ll try the Eggplant sometime. They also have Fettuccini Alfredo but I’ve not tried that either.
Today is the first time I’ve ordered wine here, and I was very impressed with the serving size for $6. Thank you! I usually don’t order wine locally because the glass has about 3-4 Oz in it for $7-$10.
Previously, we’ve ordered the pizza too. My husband really liked it. 12” pizza for around $15 now.
Double check the hours before coming. They are closed from 3:00-4:00 pm. So nice to come to a restaurant that has repeat local regulars. Especially in a town flooded with lots of non-locals!
Could have used more steak on my sandwich but other than that it was all good. The patio is very nice and dog friendly and the staff and service were great.
Wow! Excellent service and the food was phenomenal. Well done! The lunch Sirloin was the best steak I've had in years. Will definitely be back.
Great burgers and breakfast too! Scenery outside is lovely. Will come back to this spot next visit to the area.
Me and my new husband went after our wedding and everyone was so sweet and so thoughtful!!! The food was DELICIOUS!!! The salmon was delicious and the lemon basil chicken was to die for! The flavor was all there!!! Thank you Tavern staff for being so hospitable! We will definitely be coming back!!
Second time here. We each had steak- rib eye and sirloin. The rib eye was great as was the sirloin except the sirloin had gristle. Salads were very fresh and good. Waitress was sweet and attentive, but after 2 tries we couldn't get a dinner fork to replace one of our salad forks. Lots of college students working eho may not have known a difference between a salad fork and dunner fork.
Yes, the old dusty hotel feel is gone (as another reviewer angrily mentioned) but IMO the open space in the new location is a great change and offers a ton of great options for groups. I'm sure with some time this place will develop its own particular ambience. Parking is much better.
The food is terrific and there is a great variety. The staff was personable and prompt.
The kitchen certainly knows the definition of a "medium" hamburger, something other places nearby struggle with. The Ghost Burger was great! The bun was not stuffy at all. A great bakery selection. Kudos to the kitchen staff!
My only wish is more beer variety on tap. Hint:. New River is right down the street 🙂. We'll be back and The Tavern is now on our rotation when we come into town.
12/10/21 - consistently the best burger in town!
Great place to grab lunch while you are in town.
Awesome location just off the main strip of West Jefferson. Great food and ambiance on the outside dinning area. Typically enough parking unless there is a larger event going on. Likely to be a short wait at the busier times of the week.
