Started off with the chili and nacho chips and my wife had the French onion soup with cheese. They were both delicious. I had a fresh turkey club sandwich with shoe string potatoes and a sliced dill pickle , you could tell that the turkey was made fresh.my wife had the chicken pot pie which was very filling an full of chicken and vegetables

Stopped here after a short hike. Pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. We had French onion soup, chicken pot pie and the meatloaf sandwich. All were very good. In a nice setting too. We sat next to the working fire place. There was another larger room overlooking the river as well. We will definitely come back.

So man alive, ,the French onion soup is delicious. I’m a soup person so this is a big deal to me. Got a flight of beer just to give everything a taste and was incredibly pleased with their location offerings. The Kent Falls Brewing and Woodbury Brown Ale were especially delicious. In addition to the food it’s a post and beam classic made warmer by having a roaring fire. It’s a must stop.

Coming here was a last second Valentine’s Day decision. I called earlier in the day, luckily they had a reservation spot. This had been on our list of places to try for a few months. We didn’t want to drive too far because of work in the morning. This is only 15 minutes from my house and very convenient to get to. From New Milford, just take 109. After a nice drive, we arrived. Parking lot was a little narrow, but plenty of spots. Nice views of the river from the back of the restaurant or outside. There’s an outside dining area for spring and summer. The inside has a bar area in the main room. Large stone fireplace right in the middle. Unfortunately, they did not seat me in this room. I had to go to the back where it was a little chillier. Lots of the core of George Washington. The waitress and busboy were very nice and helpful. Constantly checked on us to make sure everything was OK. Not a huge menu, but choices for everyone. They have a huge wine and beer list. There’s also a dessert and children’s menu. Not one complaint about the food. Started off with honey shrimp with GW cocktail sauce as an appetizer. Shrimp was full of flavor, loved the cocktail sauce. I got the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Very delicious. It was a mixture of pork and beef. Not sure what the sauce on top exactly was, but it tasted like it was mixed with some type of wine. My fiancé got a cheeseburger. She offered me a small piece which I obviously took. Juicy and delicious. The cheddar cheese was a perfect complement to the burger. For dessert we have the triple chocolate mouse. I didn’t have much, but the three different kind of chocolate were very tasty. Overall a good experience. Would like to return in the spring or summer to sit outside.

Had a girls weekend in CT. I made reservations. It was very humid out so we opted to sit inside. We sat in the dining room (not tavern) as it was lighter. We had fried calamari app which was light and crisp with a nice little spice dipping sauce. I had the steak tips with mashed potatoes and summer veggies mostly squash. My friends had the bone in pork chop with sweet potato fries/cold slaw and crab cakes over mescaline lettuce. We all agreed the meal was excellent. The meat tender , everything fresh. Service was great. The only thing (and I can’t even say negative) was once the dining room filled up it got very hot inside. We asked for the ceiling fans to be turned up and were kindly obliged. Highly recommend. The drive alone through the scenic CT countryside is worth it in daylight. Plan to return in the fall.

Food was excellent! I decided on the French onion soup, which needed some salt and pepper, besides that the flavor was amazing and it was the perfect amount of onion and cheese. For my meal I decided on the steak tips. The steak was the softest steak I have ever had ( even reheated!) The veggies had a great crunch and the potatoes had a great flavor. For dessert I got the gf flourless chocolate cake. The ganache topping was probably the highlight of the entire dessert. Looking forward to going back!

Love this ambiance and old style place. It has an antique door! Very cozy fireplace and cute interior but wow it gets overly packed and busy! Could use some more hours to accommodate all the customers or even some way to restructure the tables because it gets so very busy. Yummy good tavern food good French fries and decent fresh dessert.
