Jakes Bbq

I have eaten at many BBQ restaurants in my life time here in Texas. The food is good and the staff is friendly. It’s very clean inside as well. The downside to this place would be brisket was pulled out of a fridge chopped up them re-heated so wasn’t fresh. BBQ sauce tasted like mustard. I think if they can work on those couple of items this would be a 5 star BBQ joint!

I LOVE this place for my BBQ fix! The ribs are out of this world good!! I also love their baked beans as well as their brisket - I highly recommend the Grandpa sandwich; it's chopped beef, with a slice of cheese and a hotlink....definitely a meal in itself. They also have Pittsburgh hotlinks, which is an old East Texas favorite that you can't find just anywhere.

Went through the drivethrough earlier today and bought a brisket plate. The woman at the window was fairly cold and blunt. That's fine. I've had people working in restaurants give similar service before. No biggie. The food was rather bland and the potato salad had a really strange texture. Not even an hour after eating my stomach was soon making those noises that let's you know you've put something bad in your body. And boy did I. It had me in the bathroom every other hour until I finally was able to puke it all up after 6 PM. And even then the stomach pain and noises didn't stop. So here I am in bed, typing out my first review. Congrats. It has been over 15 years since I've ever thrown up and the first time from the food itself. 1/10 never again.

The BBQ was excellent and we all loved the sauce!!!! We had potato salad and cole slaw and it was great!!!! Everything we ate was so good and tender! I definitely recommend eating at Jakes BBQ. Its a cute little place where you can eat there or get it to go!!! And the staff is SOOO friendly!!!!!!!!

I have had better bbq, and I’ve had worse bbq. I’m really at 2 1/2 stars but given the choice went with 2. What I ate: sliced beef sandwich, sauce on the side (because good bbq doesn’t need a sauce, imo). I think maybe I got yesterday’s brisket. Somewhat dry. Not a lot of smoke flavor comes through (unless you get a piece with lots of edge (bark), it had a little more flavor). Some of the meat seemed to have a lighter fluid/gas taste to it. A little weird. The sauce? Well it’s different. Can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s not what I’d expect at a Texas BBQ joint. Tangy, almost a mustard whang to it. The bun. There is way too much bun for this amount of meat. The dryness of the bun (because it seems thick) does not pair well with the dry meat. Any other time I’d smear it with sauce and be happy, but read my comment about the sauce. Between the brisket and the bun, it all adds up to a “meh” lunch. The bbq sauce I can get over (although full disclosure I ate very little of it) maybe it’s better with sausage or something I don’t know. I’ll give them another try, see if I get a better (moister) sandwich. Maybe I went to early (it was only 11)?
