I’m shocked that Muracci’s doesn’t have a higher rating! We heard about this while watching a YouTube video on what to do while visiting San Fran and I’m so happy we were recommended this.
We ordered a chicken Katsu Curry and a classic Katsu Curry - total cost was $32 (including tip).
The sauce comes on the side and you can pour it over and can decide how much you want! I had mild and my partner had medium, I didn’t think the medium was much spicier than the mild.
This is a great hole in the wall place, but there isn’t much seating so plan to take yours away or be prepared to wait for a seat!
Went with a co-worker for lunch and the line was pretty long - which is standard for most places in the FiDi during lunchtime. We both had the chicken katsu with curry (medium spicy). We both commented that we could've gotten the hot but the heat comes as an aftertaste. Trust me on that one! Overall if you're looking for something quick, and moderately cheap I would check this place out! Note: there is not really seating available it's more grab and go!
The San Francisco location is pretty tiny. It’s pretty much a togo place but there are about eight bar seats if you are in a bind. I came here for a togo order after work so i wasn’t too worried about seating. I wanted to get the Beef Curry and a side of the Curry Pan (or curry bread) but there were sold out of both. Pretty disappointed I ordered the Chicken Curry hot (spice-wise). My disappointment was quickly relieved once I started eating the scolding hot and spicy curry. You really can’t even taste the meat so getting chicken, beef or something else doesn’t even matter. It just adds a little extra texture to the super awesome curry.

Muracci’s is one of those places where you walk in, you get greeted warmly by the folks behind the counter, and just feel very comfortable in.
[Take out only] Muracci’s curry is legendary! Oddly enough, this my first time eating their katsu curry!
Fried katsu (pork) cooked upon order with choice of white or brown rice.
The main comes with accompanying cabbage which is pickled (yum) and there is the traditional red pickles too.
The katsu is the key point though, right? Crispy, with the finest panko type coating. Delicious! The pork is flavorful and quite a thick cutlet. Satisfying the most voracious appetite, this dish really hits the spot!
This shop is the only one in the city. Their other outpost is a sit down restaurant in Berkeley.
I say go here and get curry anything. In fact, with a good sauce like this I’d happily eat rice & curry sauce alone. A plus: Muracci’s lets you choose the level of hotness of the curry sauce. I like that!
The chicken Kaarage is really worth for the price, amount of food and flavour of the food + the sauces. Got the pork katsu but spicy and I think that’s why I didn’t like it. Will definitely come back to try it but mild instead. Feel that the katsu is slightly overpriced but not terrible. Also the bag is 25 cents which we didn’t need as we went down the street to eat at the bubble tea shop.
Katsu curry was good, chicken was tender, curry was flavorful. I got the large karage too for $9 the flavor is good I wish they will fill it up all the way to the top since i paid for the large karage it looks like i got the small portion but in a larger container.
Great curry place downtown. Big portions and really tasty. The chicken katsu is delicious. No indoor seating, so be prepared to get your food to go.
Popular local lunch spot for office workers (and for a good reason!). They transitioned to take-out only after the pandemic, my favorite is beef hash curry or mama’s curry if you want it with carrots and potatoes.
Pro tip: you can ask for 1/2 brown rice and 1/2 white rice if you can’t decide like me
Delicious katsu curry! The hot is actually pretty spicy for Japanese curry too. The guy taking orders was super friendly even while being busy. It’s small with just a few tables outside so have a backup place in mind to take your food just in case.

Had the delicious Chicken Katsu curry (medium spicy) and was oh so delicious - perfectly crispy pieces and such a flavorful curry. As of yesterday, the place doesn't offer any dining options either indoors or outdoors, so you may want to figure out a nearby park or seating quickly to consume it while it's hot!
Ever since I had Japanese curry in Kyoto I've been on a quest to find the best Japanese curry stateside.
This is top 3. Actually top 2 because as I'm writing this I can't think of a third one that's memorable.
The Karaage Curry is the BEST. Of course the Katsu Pork is solid (and it's THICC). The Katsu Salmon one is also pretty good, but it was cooked a little too much/high temp. But I fish is hard and it was still better than many katsu pork cutlets I've had.
Anyway. Give it a chance. Or two in my case.

God everything was so perfect here 😀!
So I’ll start with the food. The chicken katsu curry had yummy breading. So many katsu places in the Bay Area have such bland katsu. Just because it’s fried chicken doesn’t mean you can get away with not flavoring the chicken AND the breading. This place knows that! The curry was fantastic and had just the right amount of heat for medium spicy level which is what I ordered. Then the karaage, omg this was so much chicken for only 7 bucks. They gave me such good sauce for it too. Ugghhhhhh so good!!!
On to the service. It’s a window so there’s not much going on here but the cashier was really friendly and reminded me to get silverware :)
Just picked up food from here so didn’t get a sense for the atmosphere.
