Review Neighbor Bakehouse - San Francisco

Tee Ponsukcharoen
I love this place more and more. With creativity and quality, their bakeries filled with both beauty and flavor. It is indeed pricier than grocery store bakeries, and it used to be pricier than other bakeries. But now that price goes up everywhere, it makes Neighbor Bakehouse even more appealing. And yes, I am willing to pay for the awesomeness! I have been coming back to this place for many years and, as I said earlier, the love grows more. Just grab anything that looks interesting to you. The staffs are patient and kind as well.

Lots of unique baked items. Ginger pastry was bit too sugary but the pandan mochi was amazing. I would be back for the double baked croissant

No where to sit, but I liked the service. Some great looking laminations and volume to the croissant but the texture, moistness, crunch and flavour actually surprised me for how far below expectations it was. The danishes and value added croissants were exciting for the flavour combos. However I was also a bit let down by their flavour, maybe in part for being at room temperature… despite being purchased right at opening.

This is a super close place to where I live so I come here every so often! Good: - I love the char siu bun - it's my favorite thing they have here! Super savory and it's something you can't find anywhere else. - The ube cookies here are also super tasty and not too sweet - The mushroom and cheese pastry is good - The banana sweet pastry here is also good, very sweet though Bad: - Honestly, most things that I eat here don't feel super healthy, but I think that'll be true regardless of what bakery I go to. - The line is the biggest detractor to the experience, it's way too long for me to wait in Overall, this place is a staple, and I like how it's something that it so close that I can come when it's not busy and there's no crazy line.

Love the new coffee pop up “Paper Son” in the neighbor bakehouse! Flat white tastes authentic, takes me back to how I had it in Australia. The passionfruit tunic is creative. Friendly staff. Would definitely come back to try other options in the menu. What an awesome addition to the delicious pastries collection

5 stars bakery! So happy to find this gem. Both special coffees are interesting airy espresso is better. We tried double baked Ube coconut croissant, mushroom cheese one and potatoes curry cheddar cheddar. Didn't disappoint. They warm pastries up if desired.

A great place with beautiful pastries that are both savory and sweet. They have multiple seasonal options as well as some of their classics like the ginger pull apart which is still awesome and caramelized. The croissant buns are interesting but I thought the filling and topping combinations separately were great but unsure about who together. The elote was better than the cha siu mostly because of how wet the cha siu was likely from the cabbage bed.

Small bakery with a variety of pastries and morning drinks. There is no indoor or outdoor seating, so you will have to get it to-go. All the pastries are presented nicely and taste as good as they look. The mushroom tart was a melted cheese blend with “wild” mushrooms on top of a semi-flaky pastry base. Quite frankly the best mushroom tart I’ve ever had. I just wish I could eat one right out of the oven instead of a cold one a couple hours late.

Such a pleasure to come by every time! Every pastry looks so scrumptious that I can barely decide what to get. That being said, ginger pull apart and regular croissant are our favourite! My boyfriend and I can never miss this lovely place every time we are in the neighbourhood!

This mushroom tart was among one of the best pastries I've ever had in my entire life! Only reason 4 stars was the lack of chocolate in the pain au chocolate (chocolate croissant). Croissant was good, but wish there was one extra bar of valhrona chocolate in it 🙂

One of the best bakery in SF. Ordered a butter croissant, chocolate hazelnut twice-baked, caramelized banana almond bostock, ginger pull-apart, ham and cheese croissant. All are signatures and all are very good. I will say the hazelnut and almond are a little more sweet than I’d like but delicious regardless. Mushroom tart was my first choice for savoury croissant but they ran out that day, ham and cheese is also very good.

My husband and I started our bakery exploration weekends. We do this in Europe when we do ping drives between major cities. We stop at random cities along the route looking for the best bakeries in the area and learning about thé different bread, pastries, desserts, etc. in the area. Our first stop this weekend is Neighbor Bakehouse. We wanted something different from our usual Arsicault and B Patisserie mainstays. First of all, as in most areas in the city, parking is a challenge. But not too bad. Upon arriving to the bakery, we were greeted with a line. We did not expect anything less. While in line, locals would pass by telling us “it is worth our wait” to the long line of people on the sidewalk waiting. I’m glad I had my hat on because we were under the noon sun. A few minutes passed and it was finally our turn. We unfortunately passed on the bread because it was with olives and rosemary. Something tells me we should have tried it because the person in front of me with her groceries took a list of bread and a dessert treat. Anyway, that will be part two of our visit. We will be back. As my FOMO hits, I asked for several butter and chocolate croissants for good measure and one each of the remaining pastries. By the writing of this review I have only had the chocolate hazelnut twice-baked and butter croissant. The croissants dough they used is like the Arsicault croissant dough had a child with the Costco croissant dough. Not as buttery and flaky as thé Arsicault dough but more buttery and flaky than the Costco croissant. It taste good and not as heavy to the stomach as the Arsicault butter croissant. We love the Arsicault croissant. It’s closer to the Parisian croissant in our opinion. But we would love to get the Neighbor Bakehouse butter croissant everyday if we can. The chocolate hazelnut twice-baked is delicious as well. Flaky with the delicate crunch, not too sweet with enough hazelnut flavor to enjoy. Based on these two pastries, balance is the recurring theme playing thru my head. They both have a sense of balance and I truly enjoyed both of them. I will be enjoying the rest of the box with my family especially tomorrow for breakfast. The quality of the pastries are remarkable. I am excited to try the caramelized banana almond bostock, Ube croissant, amelie and strawberry croissant buns among the other items in our box. This was a great solid start. I have truly enjoyed the treats and looking forward to trying out more.

Wow their pastries are amazing! Great flavors, nice croissant crunch, great presentation. Special standout: Amelie croissant, filled with raspberry and topped with creme brûlée. Overall, one of the best bakeries in SF!

Good croissant pastries. Only opens 3 days a week and went on a Saturday morning when it opened. Fifth one in line before it opened. Ordered 9 different pastries and the ones we loved the best were butter croissant, pistachios berry twice baked, guava and cheese, ham and cheese and bostock. Very friendly staff and quick service. Will be back to try other goodies like the breads.

I've adored Neighbor Bakehouse over the years. It's odd hours and location with virtually no parking doesn't stop fans from lining up and with good reason. They do small batches of high quality pastries bread. My favorite is the pistachio berry twice paled and rustic loaf. You can order ahead online. A lot of their popular items sell out as you go later in the day. I believe you can get their pastries at Sightglass ? If you miss the hours. They are now selling Sunday bakeshop which is also available as order ahead ! No seating available. Coffee onsite.

top tier pastries in a city full of amazing bakeries! expect to pay $6/pastry though, typical sf prices - pistachio berry twice baked croissant: my go to! the toppings and filling stand out over the croissant base but in a good way. - amelie: one of the best pastries i’ve had. rolled croissant with custard filling and topping. creme brûlée on top! on the sweeter side though - corn cheese croissant: better than i thought it would be! loved the slightly korean influence but would love to see a little hint of spice. - twice baked chocolate croissant: can’t go wrong and well made croissant - strawberry matcha croissant bun: one of the best pastries i’ve tried. the strawberry topping and matcha filling were light and fluffy without being too sweet. usually don’t like filled croissants but this one didn’t lose its integrity. - strawberry guava pastry: reminiscent of porto’s signature pastry, it was good but not one of the best i’ve had here

Delicious croissants! Only drip coffee available and no seating by the way. But it's perfect for a quick breakfast on the go!

Fantastic bakery with very unique flavors and delicious pastries. My favorite was the milk tea Blondie bar. Prices are reflected higher though. Wish they had an indoor dining area and coffee bar. Be prepared for a long wait. Try ordering online for a separate pickup line. Only drip coffee served.

Excellent neighborhood bakery! Saw a feature on TV and figured I'd give it a try. The pastries are just incredibly delicious, and the staff are super friendly. To minimize the guilt, suggest doing something active before or after partaking in the wide variety of baked goods!

The best bakery in the city. You combine fun people who are genuinely kind with mouthwatering, mind blowing pastries and you have Neighbor Bakehouse. Def worth the trip to Dogpatch. Get the blackberry pistachio croissant if you have to choose -- but honestly you can't go wrong with anything.

My first visit to the Bakehouse was a complete delight. This is a great reason to visit San Francisco. There twice baked pastries are unbelievable. Can't wait to visit again.

If they are serving the German Coffeecake, TRY IT! One of the most delicious things I have ever ate.

Best place to start the weekend. So many choices that you will end up buying one of each! Worth the calories.

The butter croissants are the best I've found in the City, the lattes are delightful and Greg, Christine, Jamie, Jam and the rest of the crew are such a great addition to the neighborhood!

I love this place (with one caveat--see below). The team is super helpful and awesome. The pastries and bread are amazing. I don't even mind the wait in line! My favorite item there unfortunately is no longer being made (per a team member I asked on Sunday Feb 4, 2018: no more whole wheat polenta bread loaf. Above all items, this was the main thing I came to NB for. I would buy 2 loaves each time. I was a bit disappointed and I hope they're able to bring it back sometime in the future. I picked up a sourdough loaf instead this past weekend and it's good. It's just not as great at the WW Polenta loaf. Fingers crossed for a miracle!

Excellent & delish! But it closes much too early!

Their butter croissants are like the best in Paris.
Cindy Chuck Garcia
You can't go wrong with any of their perfectly flaky croissants, especially their twice baked selection! I always end up ordering a box of pastries because I NEED to try everything!
