Review Suppenkuche - San Francisco

Very good German fare in Hayes Valley. Classic dishes paired with very very good European beer. The platter was a no brainer you get a little bit of everything wonderful. Pretzel, sausages, eggs and the cabbage, what’s not to like. The Jagerschnitzel with spatzel was delicious, it had a nice mushroom sauce poured over it. The tomato soup was simple but nice. And finally the beer selection was terrific. A generous selection of great European beer. The staff was prompt and very friendly, a definite return is in order. Dos beers up 🍺🍺

There aren’t many German restaurants in the Bay Area, but this is definitely one of the best! Decent variety of menu items and lots of beer options. We ordered: -deviled eggs - 2/5 -bratwurst - 4/5 -wiener schnitzel (replaced potatoes with spatzle and ordered mushroom sauce on the side) - 5/5 Only thing to note, it is basically a very small beer hall. It is loud inside, and shared seating with other groups if you are a smaller group. Not a bad thing, just a different experience from a more traditional US restaurant to keep in mind!

Have been coming to this place for almost 10 years. They have such inviting vibes and atmosphete. Friendly staff, solid food, and the best German beer selection and the glassware to go with it.

This is the second time I visited the restaurant with my wife. I am from the southern part of Germany. We had the Sauerbraten with Rotkohl and Spaetzle and the Jaegerschnitzel. As starter we had the Brezen, should be spelled with a "B" not a "P".9 The Brezen looked weird, was mushy like it was old and warmed up. They don't serve this in Bavaria! The Sauerbraten was great. Soft and tender and not too sour. The Rotkohl (red cabbage) was surprisingly great. The Spaetzle, called "Knoepfle" in Bavaria, were too floury, like not cooked long enough. The mushroom sauce of the Jaegerschnitzel was great but the Schnitzel was way overcooked. As desert we had the bread pudding which was really good. They have a great selection of premium draft beer which I can highly recommend. To my surprise I saw deviled eggs on the menu and people seem to order it. This is certainly not known to be a German dish. Deviled eggs?! Not German specific. We would have had a good time but it was so loud that we had to yell at each other. Finally we gave up talking and just texted each other. Service was not that good. No one asked us how the meal is and at times our waitress disappeared. Suppenkueche is a neighborhood place to go, great for German draft beer and ok for German food.

Traveled around the world and this is one of the most authentic German restaurants in California. Came here with a party of 8 to enjoy the communal “boot” experience, just like it was in Munich. Everyone drank from the boot, passed it to the next person and the first person who puts the boot down, will have to drink all that is left from the boot. 😈 The seating and the food were also communal. We enjoyed the generous portions and tasty meals. For the nostalgia and the pure enjoyment of the ambiance and friends, this place gets six stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

It's definitely the best authentic German spot in San Francisco. Especially if you're looking for wienerschnitzel and a giant boot of beer. But it's greatness is really the worst part. No reservations and get ready for typically a 30 minute wait outside to get a seat. Communal tables, miscellaneous German decor, and a large variety of beers give you that authentic German ambiance. Make sure to order the pretzel.

I was just out with my pal Ringo Burkinhaulter the swordsman, and man about town from Heidelberg, he had just gotten in from Dusseldorf and was looking to leave his mark somewhere here in the city. I suggested we start at the Suppenkuche Restaurant for a light snack before we go looking for trouble, I also made him leave his sword in the trunk which he fussed about. I told him he didn't need it because the cape he's wearing was scary enough to ward off any bandits. I'll tell you the food at the Suppenkuche Restaurant is Amazing, I don't know what I had because Ringo ordered for me but it was Spectacular! 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆

This is a very authentic German beer hall. They have delicious German treats, pretzels, schnitzels, etc. In a rustic farm house style venue. And of course they have no shortage of beer and outdoor beer garden as well. If you want to relive your Germany memory you've got to come here.

We came here on a weekend brunch and there weren't too many people. Our waitress was also very animated and friendly. The meals were simple but artfully done. Everything was fried and cooked to perfection. Although, I'm not sure the portion justifies the price. We had a chicken schnitzel and two sausages for two people, and the bill came out to be $70 total. I wasn't totally full afterward, but I was satisfied. There aren't many German restaurants in the city, so maybe they think that would justify the price.

Large selection of Bavarian beers (Paulaner, Hofbräu Müchen, etc) and German cuisine in a simple cozy setting. Feels very authentic.

If you find yourself craving German food Suppenküche will not disappoint. They offer a solid menu with plenty of options, big portions, and some great German pilsners to wash it all down with.

Authentic German cuisine, beers, and vibes in design-forward, minimalist Hayes Valley beer hall. Think liters of excellent draft beers in boot shaped steins; communal tables made of paper thin sanded pine; and ear splitting decibels from the lack of any type of upholstery whatsoever. The ceiling of the main room boasts a rotating, seasonal display of intricate flora and/or decor. After your meal, don’t miss Underberg shots with the team. A San Francisco institution for 30+ years.

I love Suppenküche! It’s not cheap but it’s authentic and it’s been around a long time and I always make sure I stop by when in San Francisco. I’m from Munich originally and Suppenküche has always been a home away from home when in need of some nostalgic food cravings 🍻

Very authentic German food. Everything tasted so good and I can’t wait to go back. The beers were also delicious!

Lots of amazing German dishes and a huge variety of beer and drinks to try. The Jagersnitzel was delicious and incredibly filling. The different sausages were also worth trying-- I'd suggest getting the sausage sampler appetizer! The restaurant gets very lively at night and is a great place for celebrating with large groups.

Love going here and sitting outside to enjoy our meal. Nice selection of German food and beer. Great service. One of our favorite places to go! We love it so much, we also order something to take home and enjoy the next day.
