Friday lunch with a view!
Celebrated a friend’s birthday with a lunch at Sutro’s. We started with the ahi tuna tartare to share and our entrees were the skirt steak and the Thai style bouillabaisse. Really enjoyed all the seafood and the broth was tasty.
Nice service and enjoyed the window seat but a bit disappointed they didn’t do anything special for our dessert when I made a note of it in the Open table reservation.
Went to the Sunday Champagne brunch. View was spectacular! Parking was a little challenging. We ended up parking at the beach and walking uphill, wasn't too bad of a climb. Brunch runs for about two hours for each seating. Made reservations a week in advance. They needed a credit card to confirm reservations. We got there at 2 was seated by 2:30pm. Food was in abundance, lot a of choices. There was an option to choose from Champagne or Apple Cider. I'm deducting one star for seating arrangements. The table beside us was basically two inches away from ours. Staff was very hospitable. Definitely a place to save for special occasions.
Great service, a spectacular view, and a world class treat! Here at Sutro's we dined and watched the sun go down over the Pacific Ocean. The food was well plated and had tons of rich flavors. The waitstaff was highly professional and humorous and we all felt very well taken care of. I know that it's a little on the pricey side but you pay for the ambiance - the one of a kind experience of almost feeling the history of ships sailing into the San Francisco harbor.
Beautiful bright decor with unbeatable view of the ocean. Food was good, only standout was the Dungeness crab Benedict (I asked for scrabbled eggs instead of poached). Clam chowder was a bit too thick in texture. Service was professional and warm.
The restaurant was permanently closed. No food is available. However, Google map showing that it is opened for togo and delivery.
Wow-!!
We felt like a drink and some apps so we hit the Cliff House.
Obviously it pretty touristy but damn-! You can't beat that view.
We had crab cakes and fried calamari with a couple cocktails.
The drinks were awesome, well balanced and flavorful.
The apps, were perfect as well. The crab cakes were full of crab unlike a lot of cakes with mostly breading. The dipping sauce was a great compliment as well. Now, the calamari. Perfectly fried, not soggy at all, no dripping grease, crunchy until the end. And the lemon, garlic aioli was awesome with it.
We ended with some cheesecake and and Irish Coffee. We couldn't decide between that and the cream brulee. We asked our server Dan and he said "Hands down, the cheesecake" great choice Dan-!!
After drinks and apps, we walked around outside and went down to the Giant Camera. Well worth the 3 bucks. Very cool.
So, if you're not from the area and just visiting, its obviously a place you must go to. If you live in the area or even somewhere in the Bay Area, I suggest you go (or go again) enjoy what's in your backyard. Just go and enjoy a little time, especially around sunset.
A long walk on the beach led us to an unplanned meal here. Despite t-shirts, shorts and sand we were made very welcome in the bistro. Excellent view over the beach / sea, lovely fish dinner (halibut for me) and good puddings. Very enjoyable.
We had an amazing view for a birthday celebration at Sutro's. We made reservations at 5:30 on a Sunday and were lucky enough to be seated right next to the window.
One of our diners was gluten-free and dairy-free, and they were able to accommodate that with ease (we let them know ahead of time with our reservation). For those who can eat gluten, there was high praise for the bread and butter.
Favorite entrees included the lamb (g-free and d-free) and the truffle ravioli. The desserts were beautifully presented, and conversation flowed easily thanks to the quiet, elegant ambiance.
At that time of day, we found parking at the lot just up the road from the Cliffhouse.
If you’re looking for a fine Saturday or Sunday brunch with a splendid view. This is the place!
The pop up bread they serve complimentary is truly amazing! Nice and warm and goes excellent with the jelly served on the table.
The portions were good size and the Eggs San Francisco were simply amazing a definite must have.
Excellent location and close to a nice trail if you would like to walk off some calories afterwards.
Location is excellent but I'd recommend going when it's still light out if you want to appreciate the stunning location. The food was amazing having the duck and lava cake. I would suggest the butter is heated for the bread service though. Final point is the downstairs restaurant is freezing! We had to keep our coats on for the meal which is why I've rated 4 and not 5 stars!
