Service was amazing!! Very attentive but not at all to the point of annoying. The staff definitely wants you to enjoying your dinner. Our server was an older gentleman with an accent and he was superb! We asked for recommendations for dinner and wine pairing and he suggested just the perfect combo. And his detail on every item just made you mouth water!
I had the award winning special, the Sole. And my husband had the shrimp pasta. Both were delicious.
It is definitely on the pricey side BUT well worth it for the type of food, service, and location.
I would definitely recommend!
De Medici in the Gaslamp District of San Diego is one of the classic Italian staples in the area! It takes you back to an old world feel that you don’t get to experience in many places. The service was top notch thanks to our fantastic waiter Kennum, he was so friendly and just an all around great guy. The food was excellent; we enjoyed the canneloni appetizer with a delicious vodka sauce to start followed by an exquisite table side Caesar than Kennum prepared, and had the lobster ravioli and chicken Marsala for dinner. The tiramisu, which is homemade, was a classic!! Highly recommend for a quality Italian dinner!!

The restaurant has an old school feel. It's also pretty good in size. Dine in the dining roomor on the patio.

The food was plentiful and both had great flavors. The pancetta was a bit salty (which I like) but it had a taste that I couldn't figure out.
Overall, I'd return and recommend when in the area.
Went on a recommendation of a friend. He said that they're the only one who do Caesar salad the *real* way, like the original Caesar's in TJ. Caesar salad is my favorite salad, so naturally we had to go.
So we just hung out outside and had a salad, and the waiter made it right in front of us, which was cool. And the salad was GREAT, which is the most important part.
If you like Caesar, definitely give this place a shot.
Staff was very friendly and welcoming. After perusing the menu and hearing recommendations I had to go with the sole portofino. Hands down one of the best dishes I’ve ever had in my life. First of all the portion is big enough for two to share. The fish was perfectly cooked and the crab and lobster filling was absolutely mouth watering. The twice baked potatoes were so tasty and the vegetables were the perfect finishing touch.
Oh, and don’t forget to start with the tableside Caesar salad! That dressing is incredible! Even the crouton were little bites full of flavor.

More “old school” Italian restaurant located in the Gaslamp. Good wine list, including a reserve list with some notable selections. Engaging staff, pleasant atmosphere, good bartender.
Top quality service! Seamus is one of the best waiters we've ever had. He even made our toddlers feel very welcome in a fancy restaurant.
Their Mac and cheese was life changing. We sat outside and it was such a fun and cute area to explore. This restaurant is a true gem.
