Sugar And Spice Specialty Desserts

I drive by this spot every now and then on my way to work. Not exactly the most stellar location, at least there are quite a few loading zone curbs that I always seem to snag. First time in, I was amazed by the bounty. Cupcakes here and there, cookies, all types of stuff. None of the baked goods had names or prices, so I felt like I was at a garage sale where people can't be bothered to put price tags on things and I was constantly asking: "What is this? How much is it?" (Repeat 8X) Finally settled on their poptart. Now at $3 a pop (no pun intended), these babies cost more than a box itself! But it's quality we're after here folks. There just is no comparison. Made w/ puff pastry and a filling which rotates daily, it is rich enough to share. You just can't sit down and eat a whole thing by yourself (I mean, you could, but you'd feel mighty guilty). Second time in, I ordered a small custom cake ($35). Husband's birthday was coming up, I didn't have time to bake and anyhow carrot cake is labor-intensive. This cake was marvelous. In fact, husband declared it was "one of the best carrot cakes" he had ever had. Roughly 3-4 layers of cake interspersed with quality buttercream & creamcheese frosting. OMG. The chef/baker knows her stuff. A no-nonsense woman, she must have to get up so early! (That is one profession I could not do, being a baker. Oh! And a newspaper delivery boy.) If you need to satisfy your sugar craving, check 'em out.
