H. Salt Esq is one of those last remaining remnants of my childhood that could very well be here today and gone tomorrow. It is for that reason I try to go here when I can, despite not being a huge fan of fried foods in my older age. The decor is dated and from a bygone era, heck, they even have a 13inch tube TV attached to the wall, but that is part of the charm. The taste of the food also gives you an insight of a far gone time. It remains pretty much as it used to be from what I remember from the late 1970s and 1980s. How many times have you eaten a food from your youth only to discover it has been tweaked for the worse due to modern times? How disappointing is that? I ordered the seafood combo which comes with a large piece of fish, 2 large shrimps, clam pieces, scallops, French fries, and onion rings. ($13.99) Each type of seafood has its own specific batter. Everything is made to order to you need to expect to wait about 10-15 minutes for your food. Did I mind? No way, there is something refreshing to have your fast food made to order which makes it worthwhile. Too many fast food places now seem to prioritize speed over the actual quality of the food. This outlet is one of the few remaining H. Salt Esq outlets and is run by a super sweet hard working elderly Asian couple. Don't make yourself regret not having a trip down memory lane by waiting too long before this one closes and becomes a mega Apartment complex.
This is a blast from the past. I haven't been to an H. Salt in decades! Like most of Sacramento, this building is historic and preserved in its authentic original state. The whole experience was retro and brought back many memories of days long past. The food was excellent and the prices were GREAT! Got enough food to easily feed 3 or 4 people for about 25 bucks. Can't beat that.
Food was pretty good. Not crowded. Two people diner w/ sides under $45. Clean & quite + well lite.
I'd like my fish fried alil bit harder🤏🏾, but all in all, it was quite decent.
I will be back..
Given where this place it's located, one would never guess their fish and chips are some of the best and tastiest to eat. The service was good, the portion size, just right and the taste...very delicious. Would definitely recommend finding this hidden gem in downtown Sacramento
Fish and chips was hot and tasted great. Onion rings have a tempura batter which makes them crisp and light. Very tasty. Prices were very reasonable for portions and quality. The dine in space is small but clean. Service was precise and the couple that work there were very friendly and kind. It's worth the trip if you are looking for tasty fish and chips.
Kinda slow on service and atmosphere but the fish and chips make up for it. Only thing missing is the newspaper wrapping it. Oldies will understand that reference
Love this place! Fish & Chips are the best, Especially with the malt vinegar. Its clean, but parking can be challenging.
Awesome food great price I got everything here for less than 15$
Their fish is the bomb omg you have to try it you will love it and their onion rings are the best out of every where.
