The best Indian food I have found! I first visited the San Francisco location. I was very happy when my son told me about the Sacramento location. The food is made fresh, it comes to you hot and it is delicious! The people are wonderful.

Anybody who has rated the food as less than five stars just doesn't know what they're talking about. There is no Indian Pakistani restaurant with this level of authenticity and quality anywhere else in Sacramento. Period. The experience you will get here is identical to that which you could find at the most popular street food stalls and eateries on the streets of Pakistan.
Yes, it is a very simple and modest setting, they seem to get most of their business from takeout, but I recommend you come here for the first time and dine in and enjoy some of their free authentic masala chai.
Good food and location. The flavor is not as good as you would expect.
Let's start with the positive.
Everything I ate from here was delicious. There was not a single bite that I did not enjoy. I will warn you that every dish we tried, the ones that ask for a spicy level, the ones without, and even the ones we asked for no spice, have a bleeding spice. It's a mild whisper of spicy, nothing even our weakest pasty skinned non spicy eat couldn't handle.
To provide some additional context, my experience into Indian food is just the general stuff you can find around California. I have never been to India yet, and I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing that side of the world yet. Do with that, what you will.
The only down marks I have have nothing to do with food, but with labeling. I ordered a sizable group and we struggled to connect person with food they ordered. (Might be my lack of familiarity with the food)
Amazing food!!! Loved the naan and the kadai chicken. It’s as authentic you will get for Indian food!
Very simple dining experience in the Resturant but very good quality food.
The dishes are amazingly flavorful and very spicy. I would say that I recommend everything but if you can’t handle spicy you need to ask for mild or no spicy because even when you ask, they would tell you it’s mild but it’s NOT lol
Their tea is really good, the food is top simple Indian food.
I would totally recommend, the first Resturant I visit every time I land in Sacramento for sure. Again simple but delicious. The place is not fancy looking but if you would like to eat different, authentic and good. Go to Shalimar.
I liked the food and the service. Clean and very quick. Tea on the house and is tasty!
Awesome casual restaurant for authentic Pakistani/Indian food. The vibe of the restaurant is super casual and affordable. Self serve masala chai was delicious (and you can add as little more much sugar as you'd like). I really enjoyed the items I got; they do not shy against the amount of spices added. The presentation is without frills, and service is straight forward as well, so it's not fancy but I'm here for the authentic food!!!
The goat karahi was super flavorful and I greatly enjoyed the spice mixture that was chosen. The spices were something different from the usual items I get at an Indian restaurant. I would highly recommend trying it out. The garlic naan was crispy like pizza, and generous with amount of garlic. The ground beef kebab was also delicious! ($3 as of Jan 2023). The Murgh Korma Shahi (chicken curry) was decent and enjoyable but not as special as the other items I got.
AMAZING FOOD!! 2 breasts and 1 thigh —Murgh Tikka Lahori —Ginger chicken—Garlic Naan —and rice😋🫶❤️—-didn’t take a pre-photo and you probably don’t want to see post eating😂. Gotta come here to ck it out! YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED 😊 service was great too👍
The food is really good. I found this place on internet and it was a kindly surprise that the food was very tasty. At the time we arrived there was not more mango lasi, I was pretty disappointed , but the rest that we ordered was so good. The desserts are so recommendable. The only critic that I have for them is that the restaurant serves drinks in a plastic glass that are not recyclable, I think it does not cost so much to use real glass washable and contribute more to the environment. The rest, the restaurant is completely recommendable.
Sept 2022 Update - I came back to this location first time after pandemic. I ordered tandoor leg, lamb gosht and chickpeas. Lamb gosht was really bad, hardly any meat and watered down. Won’t recommend it.
Love Shalimar!! Their tandoori chicken breasts are awesome.
