Service is great. Food was great, and a lot of dishes coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. Lots of vegetables and great colors. Portions of main entrees are a bit small for the price, but the flavor is good. Pad-thai is a bit on the sour side. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. They have lunch specials. Parking on J St is paid parking Mon-Sat, but you can usually find free parking on the numbered streets.
Had a great time at Thai Basil. It was my first time and I thought the menu had a nice blend of Thai staples, but also a pretty impressive specials list. I had salmon cakes, and they were much tastier than I was expecting. I had the fried rolls, too, which come with a nice sauce, and I tried the mango sticky rice and fried banana with ube ice cream for dessert. The portion sizes were reasonable and the price and service on point! I'll definitely go back.
I really like this place (I had it mixed up with the place upstairs Veg Cafe but they are both really good). I have been here several times over the past few years and I went back recently. They have a fairly diverse menu with vegan options. (Check out their menu). They have a “seasonal menu” that changes from time to time.
The service was really good and the atmosphere is nice. You can adjust pretty much anything as far as gluten free, vegetarian or vegan options. Most of the entrees and items are Thai types so lots of noodles and rice. If you’re vegan or vegetarian and like Thai food I would recommend this place 100%.
I eat here when I have time. The plates can range in how they look from day to day. Like the fresh spring rolls with shrimp. There are some pictures that look way better than my plate, but they could be out of some garnishes. I get the yellow curry meal but make it green cause I like the taste of their green curry. They have outdoor, indoor, and a second story. The view of j Street is never that appealing, but you'll probably see the crazy homeless that stalk the corner parking lot of Chicago fire from the second floor. The outside area plants give a nice block and they take you away from the street view. It's not really fun for me when I go alone. I don't really like to people watch, but if that's your thing there are always people around. They have art and statues you can look and wonder about, so it's not all bad.
We were actually looking for Veg Cafe but ended up inside Thai basil, so decided to eat Thai instead. We ordered panang curry and pad Thai noodles. Pad Thai was definitely one of the best pad Thai I have had. Overall food was good.
Went for lunch on Sunday. Ordered Khao Soi noodles soup with tofu, Thai iced tea with coconut milk and Vegan Mango Lassi cheesecake. Everything was delicious. Food came in big portions so was able to enjoy leftovers. Highly recommended to try!
The food was delicious and the service was fast! We ordered a lot for only 3 people but it was enough to get us full! .
I love it so much here. The people here took such good care of me and I was really the only one here in the restaurant after one table left but it was good because I got to charge up my laptop and my phone it was two tables here next to outlets and the lady here so sweet.
Now, that mushroom dish amazing the fried mushrooms here I couldn't even finish it played it with so much and it was really delicious. Let me explain.
You know how you've been to a million restaurants and they have fried mushrooms on the menu and it's just those regular tiny small white mushrooms maybe they're cut in half. And you know when it's done good it's a really good okay thing to order.
The mushrooms here are way more better than that and they're so substantial the flavors are delectable you can taste the smokiness the crispiness in the peppers and everything man it's so good I'm going to come back.
This is literally my favorite Thai spot for probably 20 miles. I come here often, bring my dogs, friends, etc. and have never had bad service. I just looked up their page and was surprised to read some of these reviews... The taste is excellent, they accommodate allergies, they are very consistent, I've never had any problems with service.. and there's almost never a wait. To me, this is a gem in Sacramento!
First time in this place. Did not know what to order. We started with a fired mushroom appetizer. Quite honestly, this is the reason for the 4 stars. This dish was bad. I could not find the mushroom. All we had was fried onion. The avocado curry and the Thai fried rice were really good and the portions were big. Because of this, I will go back and give this place another opportunity. Service was a bit slow but that was because it was only the waitress and the cook in the establishment. I guess sign of times. Another reason to go back and support.
