Matchbox Cafe is just amazing -- my favorite place in the Hudson Valley. The "fine dining on a paper plate" casual concept and cozy space put the focus on the fantastic food. The shrimp po' boy is one of a kind. The grass-fed beef cheeseburger is delicious, served with a side of light crispy fries. Salad to die for. 5-star desserts galore -- don't miss the red velvet cake!!!
Ok. Just stopped in during work hours. Had never heard of the place or seen it. I ordered an egg sandwich with bacon and avacado. It was over $8 and I was mad and incredulous. I thought to myself that this had better be the best egg sandwich I've ever had in my life. Guess what? It was the best egg sandwich by far that I've ever had in my life. The egg was fluffy and delicious, the avocado was ripe and perfectly but not overly mashed and generous in proportions. The bacon was prepared so perfectly I can't even describe it- somehow it melted in your mouth with an explosion of flavor I had never experienced before and a toasted bun was outrageously delicious. WOW. Just fucking wow. EAT HERE. Nobody was there when I ordered so my sandwich took less than 10 minutes but I think that the care and the love they put into preparing their food could mean long waits if there are more people in the restaurant. But probably worth the wait.
As soon as you pull up to this quaint little spot, you know it’s going to be good. Whether you were tipped off by the usually packed parking lot, or the incredible meaty smell emanating from the most adorable cottage, you’re probably going to start salivating by the time you reach the door. Inside is just as you’d expect - simple, yet filled with comforting local goodies in a warm and rustic setting. Outside there are several different choices for seating with flowers and shrubs lining the perimeter for some privacy.
Now... the food. This was by far the freshest beef I’ve ever tasted, seasoned and cooked to perfection, with toppings so crisp I was left pinching myself and wondering if it was all real. You may need a few visits to figure out a plan of attack because it’s a messy one, but oh so worth it. My only complaint is that I didn’t take a second one to go. I can’t come back here fast enough!

The burgers and fries were the best. Fried chicken was delishes but I don't know if Sam makes it. But it was crisp juicy and flavorful....I'll be a regular
We each had one of the best burgers ever, then we took home 2 of their amazing chicken pot pies. They are so nice and the food is so good. I can't wait to go back!
My husband and I stopped by the Matchbox Cafe today while out on a motorcycle ride. I was so impressed not only did I have the best veggie burger ever but the onwer was One of the nicest people I've met in a very long time. Definitely a big thumbs up . We will be going back .
This little place has the best burger and fries I have ever had. NYC steakhouse quality burger, seasoned to perfection, and serves with a huge helping of hand cut, tender inside/crispy outside fries.
Not only is the food phenomenal, the staff and owners are amazing! You can tell they love what they do and the owners have put so much love and time into that place. Definitely, recommend if you are in the Rhinebeck area.
