The folks at D&T really know their way around the kitchen, but it doesn’t start there. Everyone here really make you feel right at home. The wait staff and mixologist are among the best I have ever seen(I turn 41 today and have been many places in the lower 48 and Hawaii). This is one of few places in NC that compares to La Mer in Honolulu, HI which is, in my opinion the best French restaurant ever. Death&Taxes is now #1 on my list of best New America cuisine. Thanks Brin!!
Probably the best resteraunt I have ever eaten at. After some research, I brought my wife here for our date night. Amazing experience, friendly staff, and we got to watch real professionals prepare food. Best steak I've had. My wife throughly enjoyed the marrow appetizer. Our server Daniel was nothing less than outstanding. Answered every question we had. We are already planning a return visit and telling our friends about this great establishment. Keep up the great work.
Excellent all around. My partner and I came here for a lovely dinner a few days before Christmas and we're blown away by the food and service. We don't go to many high end restaurants, but of the few we have been to this definitely sets the bar.
Every course had layers and depth of flavor. They were all a good, shareable size. We shared an appetizer and side dish and each had our own main course. It was more than enough food.
But, trust me, get desert too. The desert is to die for.
It’s challenging to give a venue 5 stars. A few weeks ago I was sat close to Ashley in a local bar, I wanted to tell her how good our first visit to D and T was but I thought I may bug her . Anyway , my wife and I went last evening for my Birthday celebration . Everything was on point from start to finish. A warm welcome , the best seat at the kitchen bar , a great reception from the server(s).
Cocktails were off menu, traditional, and as requested. Appetizers : pate, shrimp, and oysters were stellar. Bread was great . Mains of pork loin and fennel sausage, Campanelle pasta was extraordinary. We couldn’t finish what we ordered .
An exemplary restaurant that we enjoyed every minute of the experience . The only downside , and it’s a minor one, is I thought that the wine list was a little overpriced, but I could have always not bought some, so my choice .
Won’t be our last visit ..oh, great martinis at reasonable price …I don’t eat bread, but I devoured theirs
Death & Texas was okay, if you’re in the mood for steak I recommend the NY strip, which is what I got. I also tried the oysters, they weren’t bad, I enjoyed the warm lemon chili on them, which is what makes them unique. The dessert was okay, I thought I was going to get something outstanding just by the other two dishes. It’s contemporary dining, I’d suggest it for dinner dates!
Culinary excellence at its finest! The menu showcases a perfect balance of innovation and tradition. The attentive staff ensures a seamless dining experience in a charming setting.
We returned to Death and Taxes last night to celebrate a milestone. We went two years ago and still talk about that meal, so this was a test. Would it live up to our memory? DUDE, IT SO DID. The chicken liver pate appetizer and bread to start were incredible. The steak and pork loin were the stars of the show. We had the apple crostada to finish, and it was an amazing finale. Also amazing service. Love this restaurant. Highly recommend.
Food was fantastic and great atmosphere. Will recommend this location to everyone as a must try. Kat was our server and made the experience even better. Can’t wait to come back again.
Again, another amazing waitress, in Anna, who picked out and served a simply wonderful meal! The shishita peppers and the strip were so good. This is my favorite downtown Raleigh restaurant so far. Well worth the visit. There's nothing i can complain about. Brad was just ok, not the rave i read about. Again, well worth the visit
Excellent place for a fancy date or special occasion. Sitting at the kitchen bar was fun. It's amazing that even with a packed house, not a single staff member seems flustered or rushing. It's satisfying to see a place run so well. The wait staff's knowledge of the menu, ingredients, and steps taken to prepare items was impressive. We appreciated it since there were a handful of things we hadn't tried before. Go in with an open mind and try some things even if it has an ingredient you usually don't go for. For example I avoid goat cheese but the tomatoes and pears dish with the goat cheese sauce was one of my favorites. Last but not least, the bartender provides fantastic cocktails that are worth the price. The beef tallow old fashioned was killer. Thanks for a memorable evening!
My husband and I went for the first time on a date night, from the beginning to the end the dining experience was on point.
Paige our sever was wonderful, well versed, always attentive and made sure we where happy with our food and drinks.
The overall staff was a well oil machine, everyone was helping out and the atmosphere felt like being at home. Eco was kind and caring.
Our food was exceptional as well, the shrimp dish on the appetizers was my favorite!!
Thank you for the great dining experience!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A top notch food experiences. D+T exceeded our expectations. The service was impeccable. Our server was capable, profession, friendly, and made us feel comfortable. The clearing and setting between courses was magical. The details were charming and full of character… but the food!!!
We started out with the octopus, which was perfectly cooked and surprisingly rich. Our main course was the seeded sourdough and cultured butter, which was perfect; the carrots - unbelievable; and the chicken. The couscous/yoghurt mixture was a riot of flavor and texture and I can’t wait to get it again. We finished the meal with the chocolate cake and a French press of Counter Culture Decaf coffee. Superb.
