Review Death And Taxes - Raleigh

Excellent all around. My partner and I came here for a lovely dinner a few days before Christmas and we're blown away by the food and service. We don't go to many high end restaurants, but of the few we have been to this definitely sets the bar. Every course had layers and depth of flavor. They were all a good, shareable size. We shared an appetizer and side dish and each had our own main course. It was more than enough food. But, trust me, get desert too. The desert is to die for.

It’s challenging to give a venue 5 stars. A few weeks ago I was sat close to Ashley in a local bar, I wanted to tell her how good our first visit to D and T was but I thought I may bug her . Anyway , my wife and I went last evening for my Birthday celebration . Everything was on point from start to finish. A warm welcome , the best seat at the kitchen bar , a great reception from the server(s). Cocktails were off menu, traditional, and as requested. Appetizers : pate, shrimp, and oysters were stellar. Bread was great . Mains of pork loin and fennel sausage, Campanelle pasta was extraordinary. We couldn’t finish what we ordered . An exemplary restaurant that we enjoyed every minute of the experience . The only downside , and it’s a minor one, is I thought that the wine list was a little overpriced, but I could have always not bought some, so my choice . Won’t be our last visit ..oh, great martinis at reasonable price …I don’t eat bread, but I devoured theirs

Death & Texas was okay, if you’re in the mood for steak I recommend the NY strip, which is what I got. I also tried the oysters, they weren’t bad, I enjoyed the warm lemon chili on them, which is what makes them unique. The dessert was okay, I thought I was going to get something outstanding just by the other two dishes. It’s contemporary dining, I’d suggest it for dinner dates!

We returned to Death and Taxes last night to celebrate a milestone. We went two years ago and still talk about that meal, so this was a test. Would it live up to our memory? DUDE, IT SO DID. The chicken liver pate appetizer and bread to start were incredible. The steak and pork loin were the stars of the show. We had the apple crostada to finish, and it was an amazing finale. Also amazing service. Love this restaurant. Highly recommend.

Food was fantastic and great atmosphere. Will recommend this location to everyone as a must try. Kat was our server and made the experience even better. Can’t wait to come back again.

Again, another amazing waitress, in Anna, who picked out and served a simply wonderful meal! The shishita peppers and the strip were so good. This is my favorite downtown Raleigh restaurant so far. Well worth the visit. There's nothing i can complain about. Brad was just ok, not the rave i read about. Again, well worth the visit

Excellent place for a fancy date or special occasion. Sitting at the kitchen bar was fun. It's amazing that even with a packed house, not a single staff member seems flustered or rushing. It's satisfying to see a place run so well. The wait staff's knowledge of the menu, ingredients, and steps taken to prepare items was impressive. We appreciated it since there were a handful of things we hadn't tried before. Go in with an open mind and try some things even if it has an ingredient you usually don't go for. For example I avoid goat cheese but the tomatoes and pears dish with the goat cheese sauce was one of my favorites. Last but not least, the bartender provides fantastic cocktails that are worth the price. The beef tallow old fashioned was killer. Thanks for a memorable evening!

My husband and I went for the first time on a date night, from the beginning to the end the dining experience was on point. Paige our sever was wonderful, well versed, always attentive and made sure we where happy with our food and drinks. The overall staff was a well oil machine, everyone was helping out and the atmosphere felt like being at home. Eco was kind and caring. Our food was exceptional as well, the shrimp dish on the appetizers was my favorite!! Thank you for the great dining experience! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A top notch food experiences. D+T exceeded our expectations. The service was impeccable. Our server was capable, profession, friendly, and made us feel comfortable. The clearing and setting between courses was magical. The details were charming and full of character… but the food!!! We started out with the octopus, which was perfectly cooked and surprisingly rich. Our main course was the seeded sourdough and cultured butter, which was perfect; the carrots - unbelievable; and the chicken. The couscous/yoghurt mixture was a riot of flavor and texture and I can’t wait to get it again. We finished the meal with the chocolate cake and a French press of Counter Culture Decaf coffee. Superb.

The folks at D&T really know their way around the kitchen, but it doesn’t start there. Everyone here really make you feel right at home. The wait staff and mixologist are among the best I have ever seen(I turn 41 today and have been many places in the lower 48 and Hawaii). This is one of few places in NC that compares to La Mer in Honolulu, HI which is, in my opinion the best French restaurant ever. Death&Taxes is now #1 on my list of best New America cuisine. Thanks Brin!!

Probably the best resteraunt I have ever eaten at. After some research, I brought my wife here for our date night. Amazing experience, friendly staff, and we got to watch real professionals prepare food. Best steak I've had. My wife throughly enjoyed the marrow appetizer. Our server Daniel was nothing less than outstanding. Answered every question we had. We are already planning a return visit and telling our friends about this great establishment. Keep up the great work.

Excellent everything: service, atmosphere, food, drinks. A really memorable night. We kind of knew what we wanted going in, but were so grateful for our server's recommendation to get the octopus as well. Best octopus dish we've ever had.

Loved everything about this place! Sat at the counter and really enjoyed interacting with the chefs. Our server Daniel was just a delight. We tried 8 or 9 dishes and every single one of them was a home run. The restaurant has a really great energy.

The service was amazing - the roasted oysters & lump crab ceviche were out of this world. The wine pairing was wonderful. The aged ribeye was a great cut and the perfect temperature. The red snapper was good but not the same exceptional experience as the rest of the meal. We will definitely be back.

We were lucky enough to get in without reservations but it was an early spot. Loved the pork and the fish main courses and the leek dip. Our server Bryn was just great!

Best start to finish dining experience I've ever had. We are foodies at heart and loved every second of it. We sat at the counter so we could see the preparation. We loved the interaction with the chef and staff; they were engaging and a lot of fun. It was a splurge, but totally worth it. We'll definitely do it again some time!

Absolutely delicious. Alexis was the best waitress and had incredible suggestions. Highly recommend.

Just purely amazing from start to finish including the impeccable service. Octopus was the best my wife ever had, the lamb sausage special was delicious, and we shared the steak, (the best), asparagus, mixed veggies. All amazing. The only thing I didn't love was the charred salad. Not bad just not my taste. Even the chocolate cake was excellent though I like my fresh cream a tad sweeter. And again the service (Corrine I think, and the whole crew honestly) was just unbelievable. I might go back to Raleigh just to eat here again.

The service was impeccable and the food, oh, the food...every bite of every dish was sublime.

The former funeral home and bank, more the latter as far as vibe with its marble floors and walls, set the tone for a wonderful experience that was anything but formal or stodgy. Waiter, David and cocktail master, Christina were the real toast of this place beyond the cuisine which was also remarkable foodie fare. David was warm, engaging and friend to all in manners, hospitality and felt like a friend joining us for dinner as he described things so simply but eloquently. Christina at the nearby bar felt the same and was fun to watch in action as she created savory elicits like RIP Arnie Palmer of which I had two so delicious. The sour dough with true butter was a great start. We ordered 3 orders of the Roasted Oysters I believe and the shells made for extra garlic butter soaking for the bread! The aspargus were also divine and we moved into entree which vanished just as easily, Sea Bass, Mushrooms, Shrimp all beautifully displayed and only wish I could recount all of the names and ingredients to do them justice! Dessert? Holy mother of Foodie! While the lemon curd something or the other was lustful, and the Gingerbread ice cream sandwich was sinful as all get out, the Ecuadorian chocolate cheese cake smoked the others under the table! We all were made to feel we were doing something illegal when eating it and hurried just in case Customs kicked the doors down! Thankfully fully legal but it's a great mark of a place when everything makes you feel you committed a foodie crimewave just by dining somewhere like Death & Taxes, or perhaps more name appropriate, died and went to Heaven with no taxes levied other than the bill, and a surplus of good feeling left over.

We have been a couple times and usually love the AC restaurants but last night I was very disappointed. We had the mussels and found a stink bug in my dish. They did comp the mussels but a manager did not come by and apologize. They pretty much acted like it was no big deal. I’ve felt like the meal should have been compensated due to I almost ate a bug. Very disgusting.

This is Michelin three star cuisine. Ashley relieves us of the burden of going out of town for world class gourmet food. Note that portions are big, enough for two. So thoughtfully there are hooks attached under each table on which to hang a discrete paper back in which to put the boxes of leftovers you will be wanting to take home. And it's delicious the next evening at home.

Wonderful meal! Bryn was the perfect server and deserves accolades!! In fact, excellent service from ALL the staff, and great cocktails, too. 😊
