Garden Bar

I’ve been to Garden Bar about 10 times and I’ve had an issue on at least five of those trips. This includes giving me about a half portion of the salad I ordered (ridiculous for $11), running out of steak at 12:45pm, losing my rewards account in some sort of system migration, food poisoning (several people in the same trip, same day getting sick), and raising prices so fast they can’t keep their menus up to date. My favorite is the time I ordered online, showed up at the time it was supposed to be ready, and subsequently watched them make four salads for walk-ins before getting my salad. Look, most of the salads are tasty and when they don’t screw up, I can convince myself it’s okay to pay $11 for lunch every once in a while. But not when you provide a bad experience more often than not.

We had salads from the garden bar for our lunch meeting at work today. I was so excited for my Waldorf salad and I even paid the extra $3.00 for the chicken. First off, the food was edible, so if you are starving and need nutrition urgently this will solve that problem. However, I was irritated because I specifically asked for the chicken and the receipt showed I was charged for it. I thought they just made a mistake, so what can you do? However, about half way through my salad, I actually "discovered" some small pieces of tasteless cubed washed out and white little pieces of what I think they were calling "chicken" on the menu. All in all, the dressing was great, the salad was mediocre and the "chicken" was a joke. I would go elsewhere. I just tried their online ordering system, which was simple and easy to use. The reason I am giving a 1star review is because I did a build your own salad, I asked for tomatoes, cucumbers, and egg with my salad, and a vinaigrette dressing. Once I got back to work after pick up my order, I opened my salad, I noticed the toppings I picked out where not on my salad, and they provided some white cream type dressing that doesn't even taste like ranch, and I have no idea what it is. I paid 32$ for two premium salads, they could not even notify me to let me know they were at least "out" of these ingredients so I could pick out something else, or at least when I pick-uped my order that they were not able to completely fulfill my salads so I may have a chance to remake it. I had to wait until I walked all the way back to work to discover my salad wasn't what I ordered. I'm really saddened because I love the staff here and always give cash tip. They always did a great job on my previous salads, but I completely do not reccomend their online order system.

Question, can folks who make salads be artists? Answer, at Garden Bar; YES! Big fan of Garden Bar, great food, fresh and made to order. That being said, I am a bigger fan of the great folks who work there. They are always so nice, patient and happy! A special shout out to Christian, Tanner and Ruben. They are fantastic at what they do, true salad specialists!

After pigging out in Portland, you'll want to start a cleanse! Garden Bar is great for fast, healthy, convenient salads at 6 different locations around town. Pick from the menu of signature salads or build your own. They also recently added a grain bowl and two sizes to pick from. I love building my own with the Shallot Lime dressing, but if I'm picking from the signature salads, The Bliss Detox and Yucatan are my personal favorites.

YUM!! I’m here visiting from NC for a few days and not only have fallen in love with this city I love Garden Bar! I just had one of the best salads! Get the Kaleidoscope you won’t be sorry! So delicious and wonderfully chopped! Everyone there was super friendly too. Wish we had a Garden Bar in Raleigh.

Your "summer menu" not only gets rid of some of the old favorites ... it takes away the protein, which means you're effectively raising prices. For example, my old favorite (the Northwest Bowl) used to be $9 for a bowl, $11 for a bushel (the default protein was tofu but you were allowed to swap - which I always thought was great - so I'd get chicken). I ordered the salad that seemed to be most similar to it today (Trailhead), for $10.50 the bushel - BUT NO PROTEIN. If I had wanted to add chicken, it would have been $13.50 - compared to $11 before. That's a HUGE price jump, percentage-wise - over 20%. Let's call a spade a spade. This isn't a summer menu. It's a price increase. Which I suppose is your prerogative but it's really disappointing.
