I've been to this place several times during my stay in Portland, and I find myself wanting the same dish over and over again. Their veggie, bean, and rice bowl is so good and so wholesome. It comes with a lot of cheese, though, and if you're like me and you don't like things to literally be drowning in cheese, it's probably a good idea to ask for less cheese.

Vegetarian options and special pancakes make this worth it. Being that I just moved to PDX, my boyfriend and I were looking for a good place for breakfast. This place was good (not great or bad). The food was prepared well, as my over medium eggs and garden sausage were both greaseless and yummy. The special pancake of the day was Apple Brown Sugar, and it was what I called happiness on a plate. I was pleased with the overall meal, and the coffee was darn good; however the wait times were a bit longer than I would have liked. From the time it took to get our drink orders, food to our table and the check - I think we waited about 30 minutes total. This place is not for morning rushing - but if you have time to do brunch or breakfast I would say you should try this place. Overall I left full and awake from the food and coffee. Glad to experience such pleasant staff on our first real day in PDX.

I was directed to Cup and Saucer by a gentleman working at the hotel I was staying at. He guaranteed the kitchen would be able to help me with my dietary restrictions and he was correct. When I arrived to the Cafe, I felt as if I was sitting in a movie. The staff was incredibly comforting and the server even informed us of when he was going on his break before the other server arrived. The vegetarian omelette created for me was overstuffed with every vegetable the kitchen must have been holding and even came with a side of gluten free toast that was palatable without butter! The buckwheat pancake had a great blend of ingredients and held together when we cut into it. The staff had ingredients lists ready for me when we sat down and even directed us to the gluten free bakery that they got their bread from. The quiet and comforting atmosphere is complimented by great menu choices. I cannot wait to return to try more.

My portion of breakfast scramble was large enough for leftovers for a homeless man- the food was very good and for two people- he had Eggs Benedict the price was $23

Despite of the negative reviews we decided to try this place, and were glad we did. The staff was friendly and attentive our water glass was always full. I ordered the veggie scramble and it was exactly what I would expect. I also ordered with it with a biscuit and a side of the vegetarian gravy. It was a little thin but the flavor made up for the thicker consistency that I normally like. My boyfriend got the biscuit and gravy with the added bacon and really complimented on the biscuits and flavor of the vegetarian gravy as well. I definitely will come back.

Unsophisticated place with good food. Wasn't too impressed when I walked in, pretty non-descript in appearance and the menu is totally uncreative except with its adjectives - "world famous", really?! but the food I had was excellent. the salmon scramble will be something I'll return for. overall, it's a nice little lunch find on Hawthorne.

Sunday morning and any day really is worth the wait. Again, another great experience and service. More than enough food to eat- The Super Saucer is plenty and delicious- two people average about $22

Definitely a “must go to” place to eat. I do not live in Portland so I know that I would probably take this place for granted if I did. Portland has so much to offer. It’s delicious, funky, and our server was excellent. Definitely recommend!

Another great breakfast: "Tommy Go Hamlet" omelet, with nicely crisp potatoes and an English Muffin + a Blueberry Pancake, that was exploding with plump juicy blueberries. Damn it was good, and nice crispy edges, too. Kept my cup full of really good, strong coffee. It was an A+ day, especially on account of no wailing "customers in training" , little sh*ts who whine when good, wail and scream when not. 12.31.17 UPDATE. I have been having breakfast here about once a week for the past 9 months and feel I need to revise my review and star rating after considering the " body of work", if you will, that I have experienced over that time. Bottom line is something went wrong here, and I very strongly suspect it is Management's lack of training and standards. Now with multiple locations around town, it has to be the case that the servers and sometimes even Cooks, given the sometimes uneven food preparation, are simply not properly trained. I usually visit alone, so have a great opportunity to observe what is going on in the house. I see that the servers are usually trying, but sometimes get flustered even when not terribly busy which is a clear sign that they don't exactly know what to do next or how to handle situations. Service is a system, and owners and management have full and sole responsibility to provide wait staff with the rules of the road to handle the type of service and volume in the front of their house. That is obviously the link that has gone limp. The menu is fine, the decor is a little bit dated, and overall the venue is beginning to develop the feel of a business that is nearing the end of the term of its lease and the owners are simply not investing any more time, money or energy in that location. I have no idea that that is the situation and it probably is not, but the empty storefront next door that was recently occupied by Black Lives Matter, along with reduced traffic at C&S, gives the feel of a place that you might walk up to and find a "CLOSED" sign on. The lack of management response to any of the nasty reviews posted here is also an interesting puzzle.

Come support the history of a Portland. Good food at a good price. Karen has kept her sense of humor even in these hard times. And she cooks a great breakfast.Thank you for a great meal.

Food was reasonably priced and tasty, the cafe had a relaxed feel to it and the wait staff were laid back. No stress breakfast is always a good time in my book. I look forward to going here again.

I love the Cup & Saucer! They have really good food, great service and they're never as crowded as some of the other SE breakfast places. They are a great little local secret.

Super staff and super good breakfast! The ingredients are simple but taste great. Highly recommend Ma's little biscuit sandwich. I have not had their lunch items. It's a small place, so if they're busy expect a wait, but one that's worth it!

Okay full disclosure: a restaurant has to be pretty bad for me not to give it a 5. But all that aside, I love this place. They've got good health-conscious breakfasts, large variety, and gluten free French toast that tastes like the normal French toast that I used to be able to eat. And even if I didn't like their food, I would come here for the coffee all by itself.

Cup and Saucer is a great place for a fun and low-key weekend brunch. The menu strikes a happy balance between classic diner food and more upscale fare. There are lots of well-sourced meat choices and also vegetarian and vegan options galore. The space has been lovingly spruced-up in the last few months and feels light and bright. The staff is diligent about social distancing and we felt very comfortable. We sat indoors, but they've just added an outdoor area with room for you and your pup. As always, the service was lovely.

I stopped in for breakfast and tried the CornCakes, made with mild chilies, and topped with over-easy eggs. Delicious! Try a splash of maple syrup that's included for a nice combination of flavors. I also ordered their sausage; homemade, stuffed with feta and Italian spices, and the maple stuffed variety. Both enhanced the meal. The service was attentive, friendly, and prompt. The restaurant was not exceptionally busy, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. The diner is obviously not the #1 go-to in the area. Several other cafes had lines out the door with long waits. Don't let this sway your decision to eat here. The Cup & Saucer Cafe has a diverse and appealing menu, attentive and courteous staff, and is VERY clean. The next time you are in need of a breakfast with sustenance, bypass those long COVID lines and give this gem 💎 a try. I would be surprised if you were disappointed.
