Intended on grabbing a slice up the street but they didn’t open until 4, walked into this place on accident. We ordered half the menu from fried okra, to red beans and rice with fried chicken, catfish and hush puppies, we even had the 7up cake. Everything was excellent, my favorite thing may have been the veggies that came with my sons meal... my mouth is watering just remembering now. Yum. We will definitely find our way to this spot again.

Absolutely the best dinner I have had in a restaurant, in so long, the catfish Melts in your mouth the chicken so juicy so crunchy the greens omg best I've ever had, the black eyed peas to die for, , I would only recommend, that you change napkins, but that's a petty complaint, do still five stars, love it love it

Ruby greeted us and was our waiter. Super nice. I had the pulled pork with hushpuppies w/red beans & rice on the side. Also had a piece of sweet potato pie for dessert. Not pictured but it was super dank. 10/10 would recommend.

Loved the atmosphere, food and presentation. The fried catfish had a unique delicious coating, cooked perfectly. They offer cornbread or hushpuppies with your meal. The entire staff looked cheerful and we had such a pleasant meal.

Absolutely astonishing food and atmosphere. Proud black community diner overflowing with southern hospitality. I got the Brisket Sandwich which was juicy and succulent. I got the kids shrimp baskets and of course seeing them I had to dad tax one, flavor was next level good and they were HUGE. Seasoning was perfect, texture was perfect. Asian picky eater Wife got the blackened catfish and said it was the best catfish she's ever had... which honestly hurt my feelings, but everything else was so good I'll forgive her this time. Seriously try it.

This place is amazing!!! Love the family owned business, the history, the amazing and hospitable folks who work there, and of course, the food. I had just about the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had in my life. And I’ve eaten SO many waffles in my day. Once you’ve had one bite you will not want to stop eating. The chicken was also cooked to absolute perfection. 100/10 would come back.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. My blackened fish, macaroni, sweet potatoes, and hush puppies were very good. My fried chicken was bland and lacked seasoning. If I happened to be in Portland and in that area again, I would return ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh my goodness! I loved this place. This was our first visit to Po' Shines, and I enjoyed everything about it. We went for lunch. It was, maybe, half full of customers. We were greeted immediately and given menus and told to sit wherever to decide what we wanted and to order at the counter. We had a variety of items- mac and cheese, hush puppies, fried okra, cornbread and blackened catfish. All of it was fantastic. A few highlights: The cornbread was not overly sweet, not like a dessert cake, but really well-balanced. Really good. The hush puppies were delicious, fried perfectly with small bites of jalapeño. Yummo. The fried okra was fresh and crispy. It clearly was made fresh and hadn't been sitting around. Excellent. The mac and cheese needs explanation based on other reviews. It is not the creamy kind. It is the kind I have made for years, it is cheesy and rich, but no gooey sauce. It was also piping hot when it was served. It was exactly what I like, and I enjoyed it immensely. Fantastic. The blackened catfish was, literally, food of the gods. The generous portion was fresh, flavorful, moist and perfectly seasoned. The spice was exactly the right level and cooked exactly right. I didn't order it, and had entree envy for the rest of my meal. Sublime and memorable. We wanted to, but didn't, get desserts, but they have our favorites- peach cobbler and sweet potato pie, so next time. We did each have a sweet tea. Appropriately sweetened with a hint of peach. Service was exceptionally kind. The timing was slower than fast food, but some of these dishes are clearly made as they are ordered, which takes time. The work training mission of this café makes me even more patient for the occasional service hiccup. The dining room was comfortable and conducive to having a conversation, so we didn't really notice how much time passed. The only change I would make would be to have a little music in the dining room, instead of just in the kitchen. Before we even left, I texted friends to tell them how much we enjoyed Po' Shines. We will absolutely be back. A platter of breakfast dishes went past our table. It looked great too. I eventually want to try everything on the menu. We will be back, and we're bringing others with us next time!

Absolutely delicious. Came here to celebrate MLK day with my friend and it did not disappoint. Will definitely be coming back and making it as regular place to eat. Staff was so nice to and the ribs were out of this world.

The food there is fantastic the people are fantastic. It's in Kenton, which makes it easy for me to get to but unfortunately it makes for a lot of problems with some of the bad-minded amongst the locals. It seems like folks want to come by and smash their window on occasion late at night. Very sad indeed. I think they could use some business there they are they're so good and not many people are coming by right at the moment. If you want some really good cooking it's a great place to go to. The next thing I would say is that the breakfast burrito they will serve at any time and it's really nice I have it for dinner often times. Parking is not problematic depending upon when you get there. They keep reasonable hours. It's a clean place that deserves your patronage. Well done John, Greg, Kyle?

Po'Shines catered for our wedding and not only was the food exactly what we wanted and delicious; but our guests loved it too! I had several guests come up to me directly just to tell me how great the serving staff were. It was very easy and straightforward to get things figured out, and not at all difficult to get in contact with John when needed. Huge thank you for your contribution to our big day!
