I got the chicken taco salad, and it was amazing! I couldn’t believe how large it was, and definitely reasonably priced. Also, the guacamole and salsa are to die for. I would definitely recommend stopping here if you get the chance! It’s worth it

I liked how vegetables came with the dishes as many of them were heavy and benefited from them. I will say that I wouldn't consider this "authentic" Mexican food so my review was just based off of the pure deliciousness factor. It was well executed, tasty food if slightly overpriced. It definitely had a Mexican influence but it doesn't have those deep, rich spices you see in the best hole-in-the-wall joints. At the end of the day, it has interesting dishes, good flavor combinations and yummy food so I would come back!

Stopped in for lunch today with my wife. Service was awesome, staff was awesome, atmosphere is reallyr cool and the food was good, although we ordered tacos with the vegan beef which I think might have just been rice. The flavor was good, I'm just not sure we actually got the vegan beef. All in all it was a good experience and we'll definitely be back! I'd say it's definitely worth checking out if you're in Shady Side!

The food there is decent. I enjoyed the tacos that I had. I stopped in on Saturday during Jam on Walnut and was disappointed to find out that they had run out of Yinzeritas. We ended up getting other drinks instead. The crowd was fun though so overall it was a good experience.

I really like the decor in this place. It's on the second floor up off the street and has a good vibe. There's a good beer selection and the food was pretty good as well. I'd like to go back when the deck is open, but overall I really enjoyed it.

Nice Mexican restaurant with decent food. I had the steak fajitas. Wish the tortillas were bigger, but if I had any complaints that would be the only one. The server was friendly, and the food came out quickly. The menu is pretty basic, but they do a good job. I'll most likely be back.

If you like Jack Daniels, the barman can prepare the BEST JACK DANIELS on the rocks I ever tried, he knows the perfect combination like our Frank Sinatra used to drink

Newer Shadyside hotspot,2 full bars & table-service restaraunt. Mexican-themed limited menu but what they do serve is fresh & tasty, which consists of primarily tacos & burritos. The service was good in this casual semi-open party place with a lot of tables & large bars. One end is sans wall,so it's kind of like a balcony. 3rd floor rooftop has a 2nd bar & is even more open. Don't look over the edge if your afraid of heights! Gets pretty crowded on weekends, especially when the weather is nice. People seem to enjoy the large open space, also an advantage if your with a large group. One aspect to take note of if you have a disability--the chairs & tables are high. I went on "taco Tuesday" when there's a deal on the tasty tacos & no 3-taco limit as with the usual taco deal. If you like "American Mex" food, large open spaces, big stocked bars & casual party atmosphere, you'll like Steel Cactus.

A friend and I went on a Friday around 12. Was seated on the top floor (semi-outside seating) and it was very busy. The first and second floors were almost empty. They were very short on staff and it took 15 minutes to get our order in. An hour later, a manager came to our table and said our order got lost, and that we would get our food soon and that they would discount our meal. The fajitas finally came out at about 80 minutes and they were hot and delicious. We were discounted 50% on our meals. If the understaffing and order error didn't happen, this would be a 5 star review.
