My husband and I were visiting Pittsburgh this month and went in search of pierogies. Thankfully, we found S&D Polish Deli! They have AMAZING pierogies! Actually, they have all sorts of amazing food, but I want to focus on the pierogies first. We stopped in at lunch, and they had ready-to-go boxes of four pierogies, made fresh that morning (or just minutes ago). They told us the pierogies are made fresh throughout the day to keep up with customer demand. I had the potato and farmer’s cheese, and my husband had the meat, and we traded bites to be able to sample both. They were splendid and oh-so-tasty! The fillings were delicious, and the pasta wraps were outstanding. It really was a nearly indescribable meal, except to say that they were the perfect pierogies and exactly what we were looking for!
We had raspberry and seaberry compotes to drink, which were excellent; what’s better than juice with actual fruit included?!
S&D is a complete quality deli, family-run, with authentic food from Poland (chips, drinks, etc.) as well as a full deli counter with fresh meats and cheeses. We were happy to discover that they have an extensive online catalogue of fresh foods—everything from single items to family dinners to party platters—and can ship anywhere in the US. We are placing an order when we get home!
The deli is a neighborhood fixture nestled between a fresh fish market/restaurant and a candy store and is a local gem in the Strip District. They get our vote for the BEST pierogies, not only in Pittsburgh, but anywhere we’ve ever been! Thank you for your MARVELOUS food!
My grandfather is Polish ~ so I grew up eating pastries and dishes he would create. 6 years after he passed away, I finally came back up to Pittsburgh to visit my grandmother. It was nostalgic to dive into the Polish demographic and food culture, here, at S&D Polish Deli. I couldn't remember the last time I had perogies and they're just as amazing as I had remembered.

Definitely a place to stop when in the Strip District in Pittsburgh. The best pierogies anywhere and it's great that they have a dozen with onions ready to go in the cooler and you can just grab and heat up at home. They have so much other stuff too- from foods to souvenirs . Very friendly people as well! Great experience!
This had everything you needed if you were looking for Eastern European things. Saw things from not only Poland but Lithuania, Ukraine and possibly more countries. We took some ready made food to go. I got the Cheese and Potato Pierogis as well as the Kielbasa and sauerkraut! Both of them were super good but I liked the Cheese and Potato Pierogis the most, super super good!
Had lunch there and it was delicious. I was visiting from out of town so couldn't buy any perishables. Otherwise, I would've spent $100 in a hurry and walked out with a ton of good.
Tourists, don’t get intimidated. This is the best sausage I ever had! Its well smoked and has a lot of flavor. The shop definitely looked like a local grocery store and not populated, but they had these savory polish food. Must try.
Great pierogies, and I ate them my whole life, grandparents were Czech/polish. Very friendly workers. Smoked meats are soooo good and ready to go. Most stop in every time in the Strip! Dzien Dobre!!
Love this place for lunch. Delicious pierogies and stuffed cabbage. Mustards, sauerkraut and more for sale. Every thing Is good to eat. A strip favorite of mine when I visit. See pics for inside view. I ordered the polish platter.
The best haluski I've ever had! Pierogi are to die for. I have a feeling I'll be fighting my husband for the nut and apricot cookies later. Fantastic food! I would have taken pics but I was too focused on eating...
As if the sandwiches at Primanti Bros wasn't enough, we decided to venture to get some perogies at S&d Polish Deli! At first, we wanted to order just 2 orders (it came with 4 pieces per order) for the 4 of us to share but by adding $1 more, we could make it 12... so... why not 😂 The food came out relatively quick but unfortunately, they don't have fried perogies but you can buy some to make at home. It's been a while since I've had perogies so I don't remember how the taste but the first bite into the potato cheddar definitely brought back a familiar feeling... a good one at that :) We got 4 each of the potato cheddar, sourkraut and mushroom, and spinach and meat. Surprisingly, our favourite were the sourkraut and mushrooms ones! I definitely recommend a visit here as it has a home-style feel and the food is amazing!
