The food is really tasty - updated versions of old favorites and innovative dishes as well. The service is so welcoming and friendly always. It's a pretty space, as well with indoor and outdoor patio seating. It is a family favorite and a place to bring guests. All around one of the best spots for good eats in the area. Only downside is the location (and awful parking lot) it isn't that it's far, it's just that it's not in one of the PA hubs (Univ Ave/Calif Ave) - although if you're off to see a movie at CineArts in Palo Alto Square - it's really convenient.
Exceptional Hot- n - Sour Soup and Mongolian Beef!
Excellent flavors, great Chinese food. Had the wonderful hot and sour soup, pot stickers, pork belly quesadilla, and Mongolian Beef. Everything was delicious. Not crowded at lunch.
Good flavorful food with very good cocktails! It is a bit hard to find, there's a small and you can easily miss if you aren't attentive. There's parking at back in addition to the street parking.
Had Firecracker Mojito interesting twist on the regular - worth a try. I also had the Penicillin whiskey drink, liked it very much. Others at the table pretty much ordered one of every cocktail on the menu. A couple drinks ended up on the sweeter side - so if you don't like it that way, let them know.
For appetizers got the roti/scallion pancake and fried tofu. Both were good and we ordered seconds. For dinner got the orange peel, mapu tofu, fried beans, fried rice and noodles. Food was generally good, very flavorful. The chicken was crispy with a nice orangy spciy sauce and went down well with the fried rice. Others also enjoyed the food.
The hostess managed to convince us to try dessert - so got two lava cakes - pretty decent. The service was very good, attentive despite being a crowded night. Highly recommend.
Great tasting Chinese cuisine! Must try when you are in Palo Alto

Everything at Mandarin Roots was fresh, flavorful and imaginative. We loved it! We especially liked the root vegetable moo shu with pancakes -- a wonderful explosion of colorful, flavorful and nicely textured vegetables -- and the beef chow fun, which had a bit of heat but not enough to be objectionable. We also tried the Peking duck fried rice, which was light and tasty, and not in the least greasy. It's hard to believe I never noticed this place before. Perhaps the signage, which is quite attractive but hard to read from busy El Camino Real, is the problem. Or maybe the splash of bright color, while attractive, makes it look far smaller and insignificant than it is. Regardless, it's a great find! Park on the street until you know where to turn in or you might end up in the motel next door. Or park on Lambert and walk in.
Delicious, our daughter took us for Father's Day dinner. Everything we ordered was terrific: green onion pancake, fried chicken wings, pork belly slider, sea bass Char siu, fried green beans, garlic noodles, honey walnut shrimp and lava cake for dessert. Worth it, will be back!
Great spot for a group.Slightly hard to find , small sign. But the food is lovely, great selection.Staff is very accommodating.

Our favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. Everything we tried was delicious, and unlike most other Chinese restaurants, this one has a very nice patio and good ambience, a full bar, and craft beers on tap. We came here twice on a weekend during prime lunch time and both times it was nearly empty. I hope they last.
