I haven't eaten at this Bearnos since my father was alive, it was his favorite pizza place in his later years. Yesterday I was hungry and saw that they had a buffet, so I figured I would drop in and have some pie. Maybe a lot of pie.
The place has much the same feel as I remember, no fuss local pizza parlor top to bottom. It's not very big, and I noticed the buffet bar looked kind of cramped, but as it turned out, not so much. I ordered the lunch buffet (11-2 every day), ordered water to drink, collected a plate and grabbed some food.
In addition to the pizza, they have a simple salad bar with lettuce and fixings, along with pasta salad. Also they had some cooked, looked like boiled, mixed vegetables, meat balls and baked pasta. I skipped everything but the baked pasta. Which was not bad, but frankly, I'd rather have been eating my own.
Finally, there is the pizza, I sampled pepperoni, sausage, cheese and a couple of multi-ingredient slices. And I have to say that nothing has changed, the pizza is exactly as my dad would have liked it with thin crust, lightly sauced with a simple marinara and very cheesy. I however found it palatable, well crafted pizza (save for the pepperoni pizza having maybe 2 pieces per slice), but otherwise not to my taste. I like less cheese, I know that puts me in the minority, but I really don't like a whole lot of cheese. A couple of lumps, or some slices of fresh mozzarella is my favorite. I also like a good bit of sauce, and for that sauce to be well seasoned and a bit spicy. Perhaps in a move to make things kid friendly there was no hint of heat in anything. Not pep in the pepperoni, no sizzle in the sausage and no singe in the sauce.
In summary, for about $10 a head, it's not the best pizza buffet you can get. I'd probably pick Home Town over this one. But unlike some, it is every day of the week. The quality of the pizza seemed quite good. And they did a yeoman job of making sure that there was always pizza ready to go no matter how busy things got. And the place was nearly full when I ate, so that's a sign of excellent customer service. And keep in mind this review is based solely on the buffet, not on made to order pizza.
The pizza was great I like that I can go to anyone of the locations around town and have the same great food made exactly the same way. I enjoyed it.
I used to eat here a lot. But it seems like the quaility has suffered. Their chicken sandwich is delicious but salty. The pizza would be awesome if it didn't have everything canned on it. The olives and mushrooms are canned and make the pizza soggy and not so good. I used to love bearnos but not so much anymore.
Best Pizza in town at the Okolona location. Bearno's Okolona has the best pizza in town. Do not pre judge this location based on sub par food and service at other Bearno's locations. The quality, quanity, price and service are the best in town. Many other pizza shops have chosen to save money by buy cutting quality (Wick's). Bearno's Okolona stands high above all others in town.
As always the pizza is loaded and perfectly done. Always tasty, don't change a thing.
You just came beat Bearno's in my opinion. I've been eating there for as long as I can remember and the quality is as fantastic as always. I love their pizza but got meatballs with some onions, peppers and banana peppers then a full loaf of garlic bread. Made my own meatball sandwiches and they were, as always amazing!
Bearno's is the best place for pizza in KY, not just Louisville!!! It doesn't matter which Bearino's you eat at, they all have the same great taste!! I don't get my pizza fix from anywhere else!!!
One of my favorite places. Food is always amazing service is great. Love it
We got all the meats 🍖 and cheese 🧀 sticks large Pizza and middem cheese sticks came to about $60.00 but it was so good
Some very good pizza! We normally do carry out, but I have eaten in the store many years ago. This is a really good place to get some good food!
