I actually really liked the food and got good service. But the awkward fact of it is, it caused me bad and ongoing...well, let's just say, "gurgling." Guess where I'm writing this from, 8 hours later.
Food is good typical Mexican food. Service could be more friendly. Mango peach Margarita is out of this world!!

Our "Go To" Place. Abuelita Rosa's is by far our favorite Mexican place in the Shawnee area. Great fast service. Complimentary chips, pico, queso and flour tortillas. Huge water and tea glasses....and they keep them full. The Shrimp Avacado salad is amazing. (Order a half order, unless you have a huge appetite.) My current fav is the Chiliqulis (cut flour tortillas fried and smothered in an amazing grilled onion sauce and melty cheese) with beans and rice. The Chicken quesadillas and Chili Rellenos are also top notch. Heck, I've never had a meal there that I haven't devoured. Must have the Margaritas too. Love, love, love Rosa's.
Best in town. It is the best Mexican in Shawnee and better than a lot of places in Shawnee. Free queso. About the most that can be expected in Shawnee.
I love this place! The salsa is always super fresh and delish! Anna and Jose are some of the best waitor/waitress ever! The food is amazing, I love the chicken chimichonga dinner with sour cream sauce not the ranchero sauce that comes with it.(I'm not sure what ranchero sauce is but it tasted sweet so I changed my order) they also have really good ice tea and they have recently remolded and it looks great! Also their rice and beans are always good I have never gotten bad food from here. Also my husband delivered some product to them and said their kitchen was super clean. I eat here A LOT so I was relieved to hear that. Also everyone that visits from out of town gets to eat here its the best! Ill never eat at another mexican restruant again.

Not that bad!. It is too bad this place isn't rated higher! Granted, the strolling singer isn't our favorite either, but he will move along if you tell him you are having a conversation. As for the food, it is pretty good - the thing to go for is the TECATE (with lime and salt). We love their Tecates. On a hot summer day, the beer cup is so cold it soft freezes some of the liquid! If you like avocados, guacamole and shrimp, order the shrimp salad. It is merely a "salad" because there is a little lettuce in the bottom of the plate. But the avocados are fresh, the chips are plenty and the beer is cold. My husband orders various things, he thinks the food is pretty good. The wait staff is pleasant and efficient and they have updated a lot of the decor and fixtures. So if you live in Shawnee and enjoy Mexican food and like beer, go to this Abuelita's it is way better than the other ones in town - in my opinion of course. Try it...

Was so good had lots of appetizers and the meal was so good and everything is made there as well definitely left super full also my server rodrigo was so very nice to me even when I couldn’t make up my mind if I wanted chicken or beef quesadillas! but he was super nice and even more attentive bathrooms were also clean I can’t say enough good things about this place 10/10 would definitely come again❤️
BONUS: also saw an ornery looking toad outside as I left very cute

My wife had the enchiladas and I had the traditional tacos. I asked for the hotter salsa and it was delicious. Everything was amazing.
I ate here for the first time over the past weekend (11-16-23) and it was excellent. If you are a fan of flour tortillas, then you must try this place. I had a special order burrito and it came out just as I requested and it was also very good.
Great family restaurant! Freshest salsa I've had in a long time. Friendly greeting and seated right away. A favorite of the locals. Get there early because they fill up quick.
I can say I’ve been coming to this place since I was a little girl I now come here as an adult with my husband and we always have the best experience here ! We’ve never had a bad meal , they always have really great service and some people have worked there for over 15 years ! Just wanted to say how much we appreciate it !!
The hostess was somewhat rude. The waiter was attentative, and the food was great, as usual. When we were leaving, the register area was congested. There were 3 ladies trying to ring people up, while other patrons were waiting to be seated. One couple was completely missed... until I brought it to the hostesses attention. It was a complete cluster @*$%. Hopefully, this was a one time thing, and the next visit will be better.
Great hidden gem in Shawnee. Place is big inside so seating is usually easy. Food is more authentic than tex Mex. Relish is amazing! Shrimp salad is one of my favorite dishes. Comes with a unique hot salsa, lots of guacamole and a sliced avocado. Only reason why this is not a five star review is the new 3.5% charge for using a credit/debit card. The prices were already increased on all the meals during covid.
