Lapenca Azul

Great little Mexican restaurant hidden in the shopping center. The chips and salsa served had good flavor. The salsa has an almost chipotle or smoked flavor and decent spice. I highly recommend the Strawberry Limeade, fresh squeezed and full of flavor. Food arrived hot and full of flavor. I was not a big fan of their pastor it seemed a bit dry. The rice on appearance made me concerned I'm not big on corn in my rice but it was delicious. The tamale was very good. The service was a bit slow and originally messed up the order but they made it right. I would come back and try more of their items. Their burritos appeared very large.

I don't think I have ever given a one star review in my life. This was the most disappointing meal I have had in a very long time. My fish tacos were a soggy bland mess and completely inedible, my sister's quesadilla was bland and dry... Not one of the 5 people in my party enjoyed their food. The only enjoyable part of the meal was the chips and salsa. The service was poor as well, we had to ask multiple times just to get napkins and silverware for our table. The server even looked confused asking how many place settings we wanted... we said 5 since we had 5 people at the table. The cherry on top was the expensive price of the meals.. well above their value. Save your time and visit the La Penca Taco Bar (not the sit down part) on Park Street, their food is excellent and its hard for me to believe they are run by the same restaurant.

Disappointed with service tonight. Our waitress had her fingernail inside of our salsa as she was placing it onto the table, as I brought this to her attention she looks down at her nail with salsa on it and shrugs her shoulders as if nothing was wrong, I of course asked for another salsa but couldn't eat it, I couldn't get the thought of our servers nail in our food and how many people she served, did she have her nails in their plates as well, totally unsanitary!! This is how germs and bacteria spread. Be aware if she is your server!!
