This was our favourite place to eat on our weekend in New York. We were staying in the hotel across the road so it was also very handy. The staff were all amazing, they were friendly and polite and even helped us with directions. The food was outstanding. Breakfasts were gorgeous and evening meal superb, the slow roast brisket was the best I’ve ever had. I would definitely recommend this place If you are visiting NY.

A perfect pre-theater, family-friendly meal. Our ten-year-old loves the food & we can’t leave NY without eating here. She loves the Mac ‘n Cheese & any BBQ. My husband & I have perfected the combo platter with trash ribs, collard greens, mac ‘n cheese & cornbread (the “single” meal is plenty for two). Add a chopped salad with house dressing (also big enough for two) & you’ll be very happy! Ask for upstairs seating for the best atmosphere and DEFINITELY make reservations for dinner. The service was fine, before evening shows they’re absolutely slammed and the staff did their best. A great place!

Had lunch here and sat outside. Ordered two wings with two ribs and Mac and cheese and roasted broccoli. The sides were awesome however the wings were very salty. I did enjoy the ribs and it was plenty of food. The service was terrific. I had a frozen lemonade without alcohol and it was very delciious. I enjoyed my meal however food was over salted and that made it harder to enjoy while overall it was good. Chicken was really the only issue. Nice to sit outside but homeless man a few feet away was awkward. Has good offers for happy hour weekdays

My sister's and I got together on Friday and it was all that and a bag of chips! The service was excellent. Our server (I forgot her name) beautiful young lady with cornbraids, almost Caramel complexion, about 25 years old was just the sweetest thing. And she had great suggestions for cocktails and food We all enjoyed our food and the frozen margaritas with the added flavor was delicious. We haven't been here in a couple of years but we will definitely return before the year is out.

The food in this restaurant is delicious, I think it's been many years since I've eaten such good food. I went with my friends and we ordered smoked meat, it was wonderfully delicious, the service at the restaurant is great, the atmosphere is extremely pleasant, the staff are very attentive, very well located, good drinks, all the foods on the menu are delicious. I think everyone should go to this restaurant at least once. this gastronomic experience in New York is really worth living. I highly recommend 10/10.

Virgil's BBQ on 42 is an absolute must-visit, and here's why: their biscuit paired with their famous sweet butter is an unrivaled delight that keeps me coming back every time. The ambiance exudes a fantastic vibe, setting the perfect tone for a delightful dining experience. Moreover, the service is consistently outstanding, making each visit memorable. If you haven't tried their biscuit with sweet butter yet, you're missing out on a taste sensation that's second to none. A definite recommendation for anyone seeking exceptional food, great ambiance, and top-notch service!

I had been eating in a few different BBQ restaurants in NYC. This was pretty close to the Time Square, I was lucky to get a table after having a pint of IPA at the bar table. They had a good list of IPAs and beers. As usual, I am a big fan of the BBQ beef brisket and pork ribs. The brisket was tender and the portion was reasonable. It had good marbling though. Sauce was not enough but they got three bottles of sauces on the table., The mild BBQ, BBQ with heat (I tried, but it was far away from spicy) and the mango one. Rib was good and tender....I ordered 1/2 lb and I got 6 bones. My friend found them too burnt, but I got used to it..it was a signature of having a nice barbie. Sides were all good and no complaints at all. Will definitely revisit again.

The place had an amazing midwestern theme atmosphere. Really great bar and lots of seating! The food was pretty good, except for the hushpuppies. They tasted bland and didn't have enough flavor. Staff was friendly and constantly checking on you. The pricing is higher for the amount of food they do serve.

Very delicious food and amazing service. I had BBQ pork ribs. They were nice but a bit dry, but using spicy bbq sauce made it so much nicer. I loved the roasted Brussels sprouts! They were amazing. Fries were nice, too. I also loved the freshly squeeze lemonade.

I had about an hour for lunch before catching a 1pm show. I caught this BBQ place during a relatively slow time, which was lucky for me! The hostess outside was lovely, tall, confident, and open. She struck up a conversation without coming across as pushy or desperate (something I sometimes notice in the City). I was seated right away and since I had already spotted what I wanted on the menu outside, I cut right to the chase. I let my waitress know that I was ready to order and that I had a show to get to, and she was so considerate in that hour I was there, making sure I was all paid up in plenty of time. She was also training someone who was equally enthusiastic and kind to customers. As a flight attendant, I'm always noticing when people in the service industry go out of their way to make customers happy. The food was good! I'd go again! I'll add that I ordered the Carolina BBQ with cornbread, collards (NOT mushy, thankfully, and cooked with the pork), and slaw (with both mayo and vinegar). The sauce on the tender, pulled pork was NOT quite what I've had in the Carolinas. I was born and raised a Carolina girl and lived from the mountains to the shore. I've had all the varieties of sauce. Western, Eastern, all the stuff in between. That said, I did not dislike the sauce at Virgil's; It's just not what I expected. My husband, who's lived in NJ basically his whole life, wouldn't know the difference. Living here now, a BBQ meal like this is something I miss from my childhood. It was good to get a taste in the middle of Manhattan.

Update- Came back for another visit after 1st bad experience. This time was seated upstairs, server came right away she was fantastic. Food came out really quick. The trash ribs app came out cold & the manager took it off the bill. We were also celebrating my upcoming birthday, so they sang happy birthday & gave a free ice cream dessert. Much better experience this time around. **1st Review -Stopped here to get a bowl of chili & a beer. It was mid afternoon, they really weren’t that busy. Was by myself, so was told to sit at the bar or they had a high top table by the door. The upstairs was nearly empty with just a few tables being used. My waitress was also the bartender. Ordered a bowl of chili & a beer. The table I was sitting at was right next to where the servers put the orders in. While my waitress was still putting in orders after taking mine, the chili already came out. Didn’t even get my beer yet. Every time the front door opened, I got a blast of cold wind. The waitress told me , “You have the worst seat in the house”. There was a table across from me in the corner that was empty, except for a glass of that was 90% empty. I asked if I could move there, she I’ll see if I can move you or if the outer doors could be closed since there was 2 sets of front doors. The manager passed by & she ask if the outer doors could be closed, he said “ no why who complaining”. She said he is as she was still standing next to me putting in orders. He said I can close 1 door, if we close both it will create to many people waiting in between the doors. He closed one door but it made a little difference. She came back with my beer & that was it, I never seen her again. After I finished went back upstairs to use the bathroom came back down & waited for the check. The waitress was nowhere in sight. They weren’t under staff because they had 3 young girls as hostesses, that were doing nothing but laughing & joking around the entire time I was there. I stood up & put my jacket on & continued to wait for the waitress to comeback. Finally about 15 minutes later she appeared, & asked me if I wanted another beer. I’m standing up with my jacket on, does it look like I want another beer. She gave me the check, & I already had my credit card in my hand , she put the check down & I immediately put the credit card on top of it but she just walked away. There was another couple also standing up with there check book in there hand waiting for there waitress to comeback. She came back took the credit card swiped it in the machine then walked away to the back with my credit card in her hand when another worker called her. Another waitress came over to the order/ checkout machine & started typing something in with the people that where standing & waiting with there check. My waitress came back & told her “she was using the machine” ??? She gave me back my check & card, then walked away again. A new waitress then came over to get the check & tip. The chili was good the service the absolute worst.

Pretty darn good bbq. I’m a Texas native. The brisket was tasty. The service was kind. The slaw had the right amount of vinegar and the potato salad was perfect. Recommend highly
