We actually have a place in New Orleans just a few blocks away from Breakaway's. We've lived in the area for over three years and somehow never discovered this astonishing place right under our noses. The Green Goddess salad was the best I've ever eaten of that salad. The food was half the price of fare at fine dining. The drinks were stupendously generous and superbly made. The chef, a wonderfully happy guy, happy to interact. The bartender/waitress, bountiful in knowledge and wonderful personality. The old movies playing with caption, the musician filling the area with beautiful music. This is an exceptional find. Value that defies belief. Quality and deeply enjoyable food, drink, atmosphere and service. This is what New Orleans is. This is why New Orleans is. Absolutely special, memorable and top notch experience.

This may be my new favorite place. Food is great and tasty. Needs a bit of an update though and a good wash down. Prices are great. And perhaps let's leave the dogs at home and staff shouldn't pet them for sure.

I've been going here for about a year. This place has the best debris fries in the city & I'm willing to argue about it, lol. (Ask for extra cheese, and add some Crystal's to top it off *chef's kiss*!) Haven't tried anything else. CONSISTENTLY kind, and courteous service from bar staff, and chef/owner. Dive bar priced drinks, perfect for late night eats after a night on the town.

Great addition to the neighborhood with a mix of vegetarian and traditional offerings, topped with friendly service. The fried green tomatoes are the best I’ve had (and as someone who lives in New Orleans and doesn’t eat animal flesh, I’ve had a lot of fried green tomatoes!). I had them as a special salad and apparently you can get them on a burger as well.

This place was so much better than I expected…i. guess the bar made it seem a little like food would be an afterthought. But htis chef is good, and the back dining area is cool and pleasant enough. the bar is very plain and I don’t drink so I rarely go to bars. But walk through the bar to a small but roomy single room with tables and booths and Great colorful waitress and/or waiter, local flavor in food and attitude! This is actually some of the best local food we’ve had in ages. Real crawfish ettoufee. . Pasta, veggie stuff, and gumbo was Great. Walking out through the bar theater to local singer giving her all singing very unique interpretations of old songs. That was worth it- and her audience was respectful listened applauded. So five stars indeed a great experience.

Ok honestly, I don't know how this place has bad reviews. It's AMAZING!! The food is phenomenal - we had the debris & cheese fries, crawfish fritters, and sausage & chicken gumbo. Everything was phenomenal. I'm literally only here for 2 days and trying to think how I can fit in a second visit! We both had Snow Blitz - basically a snow cone with booze! I had the goblin one and my friend had the pretty one, both excellent! The only reason I didn't finish mine is because it was delightfully strong and I could feel the hangover coming over my SSRIS! 🤣 The service was great and they were very personable - especially considering we're very obviously not from NOLA lol Felt right at home! The ambiance was really cute with old movies and a fun vibe. They also have a gender neutral bathroom which is lovely!

Went two times in two days with my husband. We loved it. The food was very good and I really loved that they had many vegan options. Its great to get a late vegan meal. The cook brings out the food himself (and that really fast) which we really liked. definitely will come back - keep it up!

We ate here for the first time today - amazing food and can’t wait to come back. Recommend the mushroom fritters, the citrus salad, and the avocado sammy. Also the nicest people!!!!

Beneath the veneer of an unassuming corner bar, Breakaway's packs some of the best Cajun food I've had--ever. The étouffée is good enough to slap someone's mama. Seriously. Staff is warm and the drinks are cold. What more could you ask for?

Came here by accident. But love this place. We got the po' boy cheeseburger. And a bowl of gumbo everything was great. One of the best meals that we've had since we've been to New Orleans. The bartender. Nicholas was amazing. Gave out great vibes. Looks like a very hip Ben Franklin that didn't have slaves. Shout out to the chef for making one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. Thank you! It's crazy
