Five Happiness Chinese Restaurant

One of the most well-known and established Chinese restaurants in the New Orleans area. I have been here many times, and am basing my comments on all the visits. First, the food. The food is generally excellent - some dishes are more to my liking than others, but I really enjoy everything I get here. Wonderful. The service leaves a little to be desired. The staff is friendly, but every time I come here it seems I have to wait a while before I get what I need. I do eventually get their attention, but I just don’t care for the wait. Atmosphere - very nice! There is no fluorescent lighting, it’s not too bright and they play Chinese music in the background… but it is too low and you can barely hear it. Just a *little* louder tonight. Overall, I have never had a bad dining experience here. I will continue to dine here and try new items on their menu.

I like Five Happiness. The Generals Chicken is really good. It is not on the lunch menu selection, it is a dinner option. It is General Tso chicken. I like the fact that they bring you fried noodles to dip in sauce or spicy mustard as you like. It has been cash only the last two times I went. Not sure if this is due to internet issues but I do know that many people in uptown are having internet issues.

I've been going to this restaurant for decades. It is beautiful & spacious. I find that the service has always been wonderful. I had e been back for a few years though because to me the food had gotten kind of so-so. I just went back this past week with my daughters & their grandmothers. The food was excellent again! From the wonton soup through the crab Rangoon, fried rice & our entrees, everything was delicious. Even the iced tea was good. And, we all had enough leftovers to fill us up at another mealtime

Years ago, Five Happiness would have been rated as Five Star Happiness. For some reason, the food is just not prepared as well as it used to be. Still good, so four stars. But I was disappointed the past few times that I ate here. They seem to be resting on their reputation instead of creating new dishes or perfecting their older ones.

The facility has seen better times as it looks like it used to be a grandous restaurant at some point but it's now a little worn-down. Still has an impressive entrance, high ceilings, and lots of tables. That aside the FOOD was good, and the SERVICE was excellent. Food was served in a timely fashion. I would eat here again.
