Sammys is an excellent restaurant, fully deserving its popularity. The wait staff are friendly, the dining area is clean and well organized, and every menu item hits the spot. This being said, the Kickin’ Chicken Special offered right now might actually be the best meal I have ever had. I am 3/4 of the way through and had to stop to write this review because I am so blown away by how delicious it is. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

My favorite place for lunch on the way to the University of New Orleans from Jackson Square. This is one of the best soulfood locations in the city. They have all the local favorites at reasonable prices. This is worth the drive for lunch time.

First time eating at Sammy's (at least when I first arrived to the city). I kept going back for more. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly. Can't wait to travel back to eat there again.

I’ve been coming to Sammy’s for 5 years now. Part of the charm is that it’s in the middle of industrial buildings and freeway entrance. Meaning it’s not a very charming place at all. But once you get inside, it’s pure New Orleans in food, friendliness and clientele. Sometimes Rough, sure, but it ain’t personal. And you will hear Dr. John spoke here. Accents. Sammy’s offers fountain drinks mostly but some bottles and a few desserts are available. Think Keylime pie, pecan pie. If there are big lines they move quickly. The tables are cleaned led by staff but staff is busy you may need to lend a hand. there are only about 10, 12 tables to be had. It’s becoming harder and harder to find authentic food in New Orleans that is not too precious and PrePaired just for the tourist dollar. But part of what makes homemade delicious is that it’s not always ..consistent. The cook has feelings. Sammy’s might be a dive next to the freeway but the folks back in the kitchen aren’t making real food. Sammy’s has wonderful trout/fish almandine that rivals Medinas on Canal. The poor boys are great, The burger is good, the gravy is Yum. Also they make real fried chicken - not just fried chicken tenders . Very hard to find real fried chicken at a sit down place in New Orleans. A very Good Cobb -. They serve the lighter side fare meaning food that is not fried! big salads, turkey sandwiches. But you can get a salad or turkey sandwich most places - you come to Sammys for real (fat) New Orleans food. We have never had a bad meal or an unpleasant experience at Sammy’s.

Always a good idea to get Sammy's, but today they gave me this monster of a Ray Ray (half of the 10 inch). I wish i would have taken a picture of the full thing; it was thicker than my bicep. Even when I was 25 lbs heavier a year ago, I wouldn't have been able to finish this thing. Talk about a good problem to have!

This place is great!! My family and I live in Florida and whenever we take road trips we stop here even when it's out of our route, because everything they serve is good. The Ray Ray Po boy sandwich is an experience you have to try. I call it an experience because after eating one, it'll change your life, at least as it pertains to food. LOL. It's truly an amazing tasting po boy, best I've ever had, and I've been around. I give Sammy's my official approval. As my wife likes to say, "they verified ". Enjoy the Ray RAY. I know I always do!

Two lunch visits this week while in town and this place did not disappoint! Monday I had the ole roast beef poboy and it took every napkin they gave me to eat it! Good sign of a good RB poboy! Thursday I tried the bbq brisket plate with 2 sides and it was jam packed full. Brisket was plentiful and delicious as well as the sides! Call in order or wait in line, you won't be disappointed.

A must visit lunch spot. Easy Uber/Lyft. Great place to get very New Orleans food for a great value. You can't go wrong with any of it. My favorite is the chicken fried pork chop with gravy and two sides. Bigger than the plate for like $12... The Ray Ray poboy is legendary.
