Today was my first time at Jack Dempsey’s Restaurant. I have intended to go for years but always find myself in the area on Monday, when they are closed. For years I have heard about their steaks, fried Seafood and mac and cheese. I was not disappointed. The food was great and the service was as well. A great local owner family restaurant and a real treat to have a meal here.

Really good spot for big portions of tasty seafood.
Crab claws and Charbroiled Oysters were good, but the highlight was the Flounder stuffed with crab and shrimp.
Entrees were big as were the sides so probably no need for appetisers.

Been coming here with my Dad since the late 90’s and the food has always been excellent. Old school seafood restaurant that used to be full of service members having lunch from across the street at the New Orleans Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) back when it was still open. I have great memories of eating here right before I left to join the Navy and then coming back home to visit. Check this place out if you want some great classic New Orleans seafood. Not many of these places still around, don’t pass an opportunity to try it.

This place is as old school as it gets and they cook seafood the old school way. And sometimes thats exactly what you want. We had 3 appetizers and it plenty as dinner for 2. Fried calamari, fried mushrooms and chargrilled oysters. Everything was great.

Large portions, tasty food and excellent service! I had a fantastic meal here recently and will make it my go-to when visiting the Bywater.
The frog legs / redfish combo was perfectly fried leaving juicy meat inside without being oily. The gumbo and mac & cheese were perfect as well. But that fresh sweet tea, whew, it would make my mother proud!
Get a seafood platter, an appetizer or two and you have a feast for two.
Give this old school spot a shot then hit a couple local bars a block or two away. Epic night out!

A local s favorite, in the Bywater area . Features great fried favorites , light breading and not greasy . Lunch prices and menu specials daily. Good sized portions are served. Fried eggplant appetizer was some of the best. Blackened redfish was good for lunch, fresh and spicy and not overly salty.

I came into town for my 45th high school reunion, n caught up with a Marine I served with. They all had the stuffed flounder n I had the soft shell crab.

Got to get anything broiled/baked- my favorite is the stuffed flounder- Shrimp salad is awesome too-it may be from the 1950’s but there’s a reason it has lasted 70 years - drinks are top shelf and reasonably priced

Fantastic restaurant to relish Creole cuisine in NOLA- delicious food , amazing service amidst the old timer ambience . The very fact that people all around us ordered without even looking at the menu should tell you that this is a local favorite hangout place
