Originally was headed to get food elsewhere but they were fortuitously closed so our group headed here for lunch. What a great place! Unpretentious. Super friendly. Absolutely delicious Po boys and drinks. Those bloody Mary’s and beer in a large chalice were key. Katey, our server, was precious. She made this place even more enjoyable! Would highly recommend!

I almost hate to give this hidden gem a glowing review for fear that it will become just another tourist trap but I must. This unassuming local favorite was recommended by our Uber driver and he nailed it! The soft shell crabs were incredible. We also had the catfish and a sampler platter which were all fried to a buttery golden perfection. Even the fries ,which are normally pushed to the side by me, were perfect. Our waitress was sweet and charming with a delightful Louisiana accent and was quick with the service without being overbearing. Also, the beers were ice cold and inexpensive. Absolutely the best dinner we had in our too short weekend visit to NOLA. The only thing I regret is that I didn't try the mac and cheese. Apparently it's a local favorite. Oh darn, I guess we will have to come back down here soon again. I hate that. 😉

Today was my first time at Jack Dempsey’s Restaurant. I have intended to go for years but always find myself in the area on Monday, when they are closed. For years I have heard about their steaks, fried Seafood and mac and cheese. I was not disappointed. The food was great and the service was as well. A great local owner family restaurant and a real treat to have a meal here.

Really good spot for big portions of tasty seafood. Crab claws and Charbroiled Oysters were good, but the highlight was the Flounder stuffed with crab and shrimp. Entrees were big as were the sides so probably no need for appetisers.

Large portions, tasty food and excellent service! I had a fantastic meal here recently and will make it my go-to when visiting the Bywater. The frog legs / redfish combo was perfectly fried leaving juicy meat inside without being oily. The gumbo and mac & cheese were perfect as well. But that fresh sweet tea, whew, it would make my mother proud! Get a seafood platter, an appetizer or two and you have a feast for two. Give this old school spot a shot then hit a couple local bars a block or two away. Epic night out!

Fantastic restaurant to relish Creole cuisine in NOLA- delicious food , amazing service amidst the old timer ambience . The very fact that people all around us ordered without even looking at the menu should tell you that this is a local favorite hangout place

This place is as old school as it gets and they cook seafood the old school way. And sometimes thats exactly what you want. We had 3 appetizers and it plenty as dinner for 2. Fried calamari, fried mushrooms and chargrilled oysters. Everything was great.

Got to get anything broiled/baked- my favorite is the stuffed flounder- Shrimp salad is awesome too-it may be from the 1950’s but there’s a reason it has lasted 70 years - drinks are top shelf and reasonably priced

After years of visiting New Orleans, and countless morning walks past Jack Dempsey’s, finally made it here! Tucked away on the corner of Poland and Dauphine, it offers an opportunity for quiet conversations and wonderful comfort food. Of course, coming to New Orleans doesn’t always have to mean fried food, but I couldn’t pass up on the fried catfish. The dishes are plentiful - you may want to consider sharing. The service was friendly and the quietness was special. I’ll be going back.

Talk about an amazing place to relive old New Orleans. The willing service with a smile. The food to die for and the ambiance of what was once New Orleans very own. Met with the owner today and just enjoyed listening to her. Although in a challenging and blighted area since Hurricane Katrina and the closure of the Military installation across the street there remains a beacon of old New Orleans and music scene. Support these places so we both don’t starve…

Been coming here with my Dad since the late 90’s and the food has always been excellent. Old school seafood restaurant that used to be full of service members having lunch from across the street at the New Orleans Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) back when it was still open. I have great memories of eating here right before I left to join the Navy and then coming back home to visit. Check this place out if you want some great classic New Orleans seafood. Not many of these places still around, don’t pass an opportunity to try it.

After a long night at a Mardi Gras ball this place hit the spot. Very good flavor and a nice size portion served. Will visit again
