stopped here for lunch had great fish tacos and fish sandwich, Kira our bartender/waitress was so informative and personable. I would highly recommend this place for a fun time.
Great food, great drinks and great service. Nice people and dog friendly with nice patio too. I highly recommend this place.
We went here around 3pm for a late lunch. Overall is pretty good without much surprising. Plenty options for vegetarians. The starter, shrimp roll is delicious! The fish Taco and vegan sandwich is good.
We came for lunch, was busy which is a good sign. Got seated quickly and they were very accommodating with helping us fold/place our stroller out of the way. Server was great, attentive, recommended one meal over another and she nailed the recommendation. Had the pork plate and the lunch special, everything was delicious. We were very happy with our meals, cleaned both plates.
Super cute place with a great vibe. We will be back.
We went to the aquarium and stopped here for dinner. We were looking for something less touristy and off Cannery Row and found this nice local restaurant.
Fresh food, nice cocktails, friendly service and reasonable prices.
They have outdoor seating.
Hula never let me down. Being a common in their Santa Cruise location I decided to check out this one in Monterrey when we were visiting this cute city last time. Waiting time was only 20 minutes which is pretty short for a Sunday night. Food same good as in Santa Cruise and portions are generous. We got Hawaiian jerk plates (one chicken and one vegan), if you decide to try the same be careful with adding a sauce it’s really hot. Better add a little to some bites not all at once to not be burnt (I was first time I tried it haha)
Overall recommend Hula to anyone who comes to Monterrey. It’s one of the most atmospheric places with good quality/price ratio here.
They serve and refill water on request only. That's what the menu said. I like that, it builds character. If you really want it, you got to put in the work. How bad do you want it? You can't just assume that water is going to be a given. This place reminded me of the feeling I get on airplanes when they're offering drinks. The old me would ask for one drink, either a water or ginger ale. If I asked for water, they'd only give me a small cup's worth. If I asked for ginger ale, I had the opportunity to get the full can, depending on what airlines I was flying. I just assumed that I couldn't ask for both at the same time. It wasn't until recently that I built up the courage to ask for both and guess what...I got. My confidence is growing now and I might even ask for three drinks the next time I'm at flight. All I'm trying to say is don't expect the waiters at Hula's Island Grill to read your mind. If you want more water, just ask for it.
I think they can't refill your water without request because it's a California law to help conserve water. So they could actually be breaking the law if they refilled your cup without request. You could be considered an accomplice if you don't stop them. Anyway, the food and water I requested was amazing.
I can’t believe I was sleeping on this place, it is now one of our absolute FAVES in Monterey. The photos I added are from several different trips - everything I’ve had has been delicious. I had the Kingston Crab Curry tonight and it was just the right balance of richness & some heat. My partner almost always gets the jerk chicken because its so good too. I am obsessed with their passionfruit pie…get it. Their cocktails are fantastic as well, I like the C&K and the Kali’s Offering I think its called. They also have lighter libation options more like mocktails that have tiny scant alcohol (like just bitters with other fruit juices and such) that are also delicious for those who are non alcoholic or whatnot which is great for us as we personally reduce our alcohol consumption haha
Anyways, service is always friendly and attentive. Kali (or Cali?) is an amazing server. Patient, attentive, charismatic & informative of everything on the menu as I heard a table next to us ask her a bajillion specific questions haha she remained patient and thorough with them though.
Anyways, this is one of the best restaurants in Monterey with a fun cozy Hawaiian tiki vibe. Go eat here!
I had the jerk chicken. The sauce had a lot of flavor, but the chicken was just a tad dry.
The Ahi tacos were delicious, flavorful, and juicy.
The rice was not overcooked or cold. I did not care for the fried plantains.
This place is soooo fun!!! Just the perfect island vibes...and a definite locals delight. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere. The wings are amazing, so unique! They also have a good happy hour... $7 appetizers, and the Tiki drinks are $10 for a single and $14 for a double.
I give this place 5 stars across the board. My wife and I love good, simple food and Hula’s nails it. Good vibe, tasty cocktails (and mocktails!), and while the food wasn’t Michelin rated, for the price it was spot on. Our server, Kelly was nice and professional and asked what we needed in a friendly, timely fashion. Kelly also filled my water glass maybe a dozen times within a minute of me finishing my glass. Very appreciated.
Fun place for food and drinks. Happy hour on some food items and Tiki drinks. Poke bowl was fantastic. Had the edamame and kimchi sides, both delicious.
