Decided to eat here based on other reviews, and we were very glad we did. It was DELICIOUS (and inexpensive)! One of the best Indian meals I've had. Wished I lived in the area, I would be there every week.
Great place, people, price. Going again and again!
Who cares about the atmosphere when the food is this good. Best Indian food in the twin cities.
Do not judge this book by the cover. My husband was in Mpls a month ago and found this place online. He called ahead and told them how much he wanted to spend to take home to me, and could they give him a variety of dishes? They did, and everything was delicious! Samosas, naan, vegetable curry, lamb were all flavorful and held up well to over an hour of travel.
Cut ahead to yesterday, when we were in the Cities again. We found the restaurant and I was not impressed by the decor - kind of "employee break room with a buffet" decor - but it is very clean and the scent in the air would make you hungry even if you'd just ate. We ordered an appetizer variety plate, onion naan, and beverages (sweet lasse and hot tea); I had a chicken dish with lentils and spinach and my husband had goat kadai. We shared with rice, and all dishes were tasty, spicy but not too hot, and generous. The service was very warm, polite, and swift. Go there, and enjoy their food!
Wolf in sheeps clothing. Do not let the initial impressions of this small restaurant turn you away. We entered at about 7:00 PM on Friday; One other couple sitting in the corner. Small, crowded laminate tables, fluorescent lights overhead, a buffet rack tucked into the corner. I looked at my wife tentatively. The waiter brought glasses of water and some stained menus - he had trouble understanding the conversation. I looked at my wife again; we ordered. Phaan, Naan, Shrimp fried basmati rice, chicken del Sara. Then I found out why they don't dress the place up. If they did, they would never fit all the people in the place. The Phaan was exactly the correct amount of spice - not a chemical burn but a lingering heat - mixed exotically with the anise in the curry. My wife said my face was red from the spice, but I thoroughly enjoyed the artfully balanced flavors. The Naan was exactly how I expected it, soft, tasty, yet tough enough to handle the food. The fried rice made the perfect accoutrement to the main dish. Large servings, incredibly tasty food, well worth the charges. By the time we left, there was a line waiting out the door, seems this little secret is kept with the locals.
Great food, great prices - MY FAVORITE Indian food spot in the Twin Cities!. I cannot get enough of India Cafe's yummy food! While the decor and interior aren't the most pleasant, this is definitely my top spot for Indian cuisine in the Twin Cities.
For the price and the freshness/spice developments here - TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! I've gotten take-out many times and it's always extremely fresh (great rice, great naan, tender chicken with an awesome amount of sauce to spare!). I usually get a few items and my bill is barely over $13, which makes it the best deal I've found around minneapolis thus far, not to mention that the portions are HUGE (I had leftovers for two meals!).
I also tried the buffet once on a vacation day, and am only saddened that I don't work close enough to come here more often. SUPER CHEAP and there's a GREAT variety compared to most other indian food buffets.
Yum. So many flavors, so much food. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. I will be back.
Excellent food. I have been here once before and really liked it so I came back, this time with my husband. I had the Tandoori Chicken last time and loved it so ordered it again and my husband ordered a whole bunch of things to try it all. Everything was hot and fresh, but the cheese pakoda was just amazing. I seriously had dreams about that stuff is was so yummy!
My second time here and the food is great. I am Indian and this time brought my parents. Everyone liked the food. Best Indian food in town
Accidentally stumbled on this delightful restaurant. It's in a small storefront and is humble inside, but the food is EXCELLENT! Veggie korma was just spicy enough, veggies tender-crisp. The saag paneer was almost sweet by comparison, with generous huge chunks of paneer. Nom.
Good food and welcoming staff. A little time consuming as the orders take some time to be prepared, hopefully because everything is cooked to order. Small establishment but considering no dine in is currently offered overall a nice place for take out Indian Pakistani food. They say the food is halal and have some Islamic art in the restaurant which seems like the owners might be from Pakistan... would recommend for a quick bite.

This restaurant now has my favorite foods. I really love indian food for its spicy and rich quality. The service is amazing, and the food here is just phenomenal. My favorite was the Goat Dum Briyani, but the Mysore Masala Dosa was also really GOOD... and some good old Chicken Tikka Masala went really well with the butter naan!
*UPDATE* In Covid:
So I have been coming here for a few years and even in Covid this place doesn't cease to amaze me. The service is still AMAZING and they care a lot about the covid regulations and etc. Their food is still unbelievable tasty and I can tell how authentic it all is. Their dosas are so good that it's usually one of my top 3 of things to order when I go there... on a side note when ordering a dosa you should be aware that eating in the restaurant vs. Togo is the better option as the foil tends to ruin the crispy-ness but they can't control it and to be honest, both ways... IT STILL TASTES INCREDIBLE. I can't wait for the buffet to open again once this pandemic is taken care of. I have really been craving their tandoori chicken lately and during Ramadan my family and I love getting takeout from them and to be honest even during covid their prices are verrrryyyy reasonable and is totally worth it!!!
I'd like to share a catering experience.
I ordered food from India cafe twice, once for my house warming and another for my son's birthday. Both the times, it was a wonderful experience. The biriyanis (mutton and chicken) were a hit and the guests loved it. The flavor, rice, meat all were cooked to perfection. The appetizers were also good and loved by all. The owner was wonderful to work with. He worked on the price and also added the desserts on the house (that was a hit too)!!
This is a definite must try for party orders. You and your guests will like it for sure. Support local.
Good non expensive places for lunch and dinner. Buffet assortment not so bad (if you like hot and spicey Indian food). I love spicy food. Chicken tikka masala is perfect. But for my wife a little spicey. Add this cafe to my favorite list.
I stayed near MSP airport for an early morning flight and wanted something different for takeout. I ordered Lamb Karahi. It was delicious and it came with traditional bread. The staff was super friendly and helped me with the menu. Thanky you to Ziaullah for being patient with me. I will definitely order from them again. It is very close and convenient to MSP airport hotel row too
This is really a good place for nice Indian food with very good amount of items. They have very special items which you should try for sure.
Was craving for some nice vegetarian food and here we got to go for veg thali.
This was so nice and same as we get in India especially Like Andra meals with rice, chapathi, curries all arrived in big thali and small bowls. I really love the way. I missed it since I was in US but I don’t think I’m gonna miss thali anymore.
I've been eating here for years. The buffet is fantastic and their dishes are all sooooo good! I love the aloo masala and gulab jamun. I've been to India a few times and the food here is just as good, perhaps even better.
Everything is reasonably priced too.
Omg nothing like a meal that reminds you of home!! <3 This place serves up what's most important: TASTY FOOD! Chicken 65 & biryani are by far my favorite! This place is my favorite in the whole TC area!
Wildly delicious. Got samosas, butter chicken, and Dahl. The butter chicken had a certain spice to it that I havent had before in butter chicken but it was really lovely. The Dahl was really home-y. The man at the front was very friendly and asked me if I wanted extra rice. My only critique is that the somasas were a little small.
The restaurant is very good. They cooked for me Qabil pulao and chken Karahi. It was so yummy 😋 😍. If you live in Minnesota, you should try 😋. Very delicious food. 😋 they have Afghani place to sit and Chairs too.
