We came on Sunday night to hear the Parisota Hot Club. The sound system is great, balanced for the room, you have a good view of the band from the bar or a table. The food is excellent, with little twists on cafe favorites, e.g. I had beef tacos with some balsamic vinegar to add acid and some bite to something that otherwise is often heavy and greasy, The bar makes great classic drinks, like the Negroni. My wife had a chocolate mousse that was dense, with the character of cake and ganache, with....some balsamic around the top rim. It is a great place to sit at the bar or to sit at the table and hear good music. We loved it.
What a beautiful space they have. Friendly staff from initial contact until our final goodbye. They obviously are passionate about creating an awesome experience.
Had lunch there. The beer 'n cheese soup is to die for! So is the prime rib sandwich.
Cannot wait to go back.
So much to love here... dive with fine dining... cafe vibes with the bistro menu... this place is really perfect for anyone.
A tiny little footprint tucked away in the historic streets of St Anthony Main, if you haven't had the pleasure of exploring the area, it's worth the visit in that alone. The modest menu carries a variety of flavors from across the globe, great for both the traditional and the more curious eater. Never thought brisket and watermelon could be so good in a taco!
A staple to the area, and one of the absolute best meals I've had. STOP READING NOW AND GO!! You won't regret it.
Immaculate food, vibes, and music at this past Saturday’s Swing Brunch. I’ve been wanting to visit Aster Cafe for years, and I’ve heard great things about their musical brunches. I finally made a reservation for Sunday morning at 10:30 am. Music starts at 11, and I’d recommend arriving at 10:30, so that you have some time to chat with your dining party before the music starts.
Everything at the swing brunch was perfect. I ordered the French toast bake, and my friend ordered the quiche. Both dishes were superbly baked and incredibly moist. The fresh toast bake was full of flavor, and the texture was superb. I tried my friend’s breakfast potatoes, and they were well-cooked and well-seasoned. The coffee was so pleasant too.
Now, onto the vibes… The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit and elegant. It feels like a French brasserie. The bar is so beautiful too. The music only added to the French feel. It was upbeat and lively, and I loved the brass. A number of folks danced, and it was so fun to watch them float about the room. Each couple had a different style.
Overall, I felt transported by the Swing Brunch. I’m the future, I’d love for them to host musicians on the outdoor patio as well for a different vibe. I’ll definitely be back!
We traveled across the Midwest for a week, eating at Supper Clubs, chains and family restaurants. Aster Cafe stands out for its fantastic atmosphere, quick service and delicious food. I can't say enough good things about the cozy and hip atmosphere. We weren't able to stay for the band that was setting up but we heard a bit of the tuneup and I wish we could have. The indoor area was hopping, outdoors was busy and there was even a reception in a secondary room next to the main restaurant (not sure if they were connected or not). It was fun to see such a busy spot along the river in such a fun space.
We both had the Thai noodles, which were actually a little spicy (sometimes hard to find in the Midwest), and then enjoyed a delicious cocktail (for me) and a local craft beer (my friend), and I loved the menu's variety without being overwhelming.
Wish we could have eaten there every night! What a great place!
We enjoyed Sunday brunch on the patio. We didn't have reservations, so there wasn't room inside with the live music. But we were seated with no wait outside even with a party of 6. Most of the patio was either in the shade of trees or some patio umbrellas.
The food was served much quicker than I expected.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and we enjoyed a stroll afterwards with a nice cityscape view.
Just passing through town and my wife found this place. We really just wanted a quick snack so we ordered the Gnocchi to share. It was ABSOLUTELY DEVINE!!! So we got the wine float to enjoy after.
Everything was so good we ordered the spicy chicken Curry to go for dinner! We just finished the Curry for dinner now and it was to die for as well!!! Quite the little gem! And soooo very happy we stopped here!!

We were there for a weekday dinner. Nice patio. Decent food, and friendly service.
Great experience at Aster. Our food came out very quickly and the service was great! The atmosphere was really nice!
The Aster Cafe was perfect for dinner before our show at the Guthrie. We popped in we both ordered the delicious aster chicken nouveau sandwiches and we loved them. My wife also really enjoyed her Nitro Sangria! I'm looking forward to stopping in again and trying the BBQ Brisket Tacos next time.
This is a cozy little cafe/bar for listening to live music while enjoying a strong cocktail with delicious food. I am happy to make this review because the last few years they had been relying on their location (best patio view of the river right on St. Anthony Main) while their food and service were declining to the point that I had stopped going, but for some reason I started going again the last six months. Over these past six months I've enjoyed the food with great service on a consistent basis. Way to go, Aster Cafe.
Aster Cafe is great for food and Ambience. The service is exemplary and the environment just makes it a great experience.
