Absolutely outstanding. Food is great, the atmosphere is perfect, and the staff members are super friendly. 10/10! I routinely go to The Oceanaire with friends, business partners, and family and I've never once been disappointed.
Started out with some oysters and shrimp cocktail. Excellent, but the cocktail sauce for the shrimp was a little too horse radishy. Next I had the lobster bisque and that was great. My wife and I both had halibut as our main entree and mine was topped with crab and a caper sauce. Awesome. The creamed corn is to die for but I was disappointed the brussel sprouts were not available. The banana cream pie was a perfect finish to the meal.
Good, but watch your wallet. I can't complain about much, but the fois gras was truly terrible. I'd recommend the halibut and the asparagus. Wine menu is excellent, but don't expect anything less than $40 a bottle.
Bad seating. Staff was great, servers were great food was awesome. however our seating situation was hideaous. we will be back because of the food and staff but will definately make sure of where i am seated.
Best Steak and Shrimp in Minnesota.... What a wonderful experience. We have dined at all the premium establishments downtown and the Oceanaire rises above the pack. With exception to our favorite romantic restaurant La Belle Vi, this will be at the top of the list for a dining experience where the food tastes amazing, the service is exceptional and in the end, the cost of the meal is more than reasonable. Tonight started with a warm greeting from assistant manager Nate, followed by a friendly hello from our server Nat. What we didn’t realize at the beginning of the meal was that Nat would become our favorite waiter in Minneapolis/St.Paul. If you read our other reviews, praise is often given to outstanding waiters. Nat is at the top of his profession. He has worked here over seven years and it shows. His passion for the food, his gentle approach and his big smile. You instantly feel comfortable. The first course was a shrimp crab bite on a cracker with cucumber and sriracha sauce. It was so good. The relish tray was old school and we loved it. Bread was fresh and had great flavor. Next was the scallop. Perfectly cooked with tomato and fresh pesto. This is how a scallop should be served. Next was the orange salad. Greens with orange mimosa vinaigrette, goat cheese and candied orange shavings. We would return just for this salad. Next was the trout with crab. We do not like trout. This trout was spectacular. Crispy skin, perfectly cooked and so full of flavor without the strong fish taste. We were impressed with the culinary skills of the chef. Next was the best course of the evening. The best shrimp and steak we have experienced in Minnesota. We were sad when Mortons closed in downtown. This is no longer true. We will return to the Oceanaire for the steak and seafood Louie often. The medium rare steak was cooked perfectly. The flavor was without equal and the sauces that accompanied the steak and shrimp were amazing. This would have been the perfect way to end the meal but they served a slice of key lime pie and a slice of New York cheesecake with a fruit topping that was awesome. The entire service team is professional and friendly. The restaurant was packed on a Friday night. The noise level is loud. This would be my only concern about the Oceanaire. For a truly romantic setting this is not the place. Parking is valet or on the street. If you are downtown Minneapolis and want a memorable meal, make reservations at the Oceainaire.
Great place for fish lovers!. Where else can you go in the Twin Cities and find Australian Barramundi, Mexican Corvina, and Hawaiian Blue Marlin on the menu on a daily basis? Ocaenaire IS fish, and it does it well! To me, this is a "special occasion" place. We dropped over $200 with no alcohol, but shared apps and desserts. I highly recommend the oysters. We tried a mix of 3 from the East Coast and 3 from the West. They came perfectly chilled. The calamari was very tasty. I thought it would be spicy being it was infused with red chilies, but it sweet and flavorful. My Jumbo Sea Scallops were $34, but the four were perfectly seared with a wonderful buttery center. Mmmm! Their House Salad was wonderful, and HUGE. My favorite side was the Roasted Beets with Blue Cheese. We shared desserts - Key Lime Pie and Death By Chocolate. The chocolate cake says it feeds 3-4, but I think it feeds 12! It was enormous! All in all, a great dinner. Service was top notch, food was spectacular. Only thing I didn't like was the blue neon lights overhead. I'll be back... when I come into some more money ;)
My boyfriend and I had a great night at Oceanaire! The food and drinks were great. Yes, the prices are slightly steep. But, if you don't want to pay those prices don't eat there. The service made everything 100x better! Our server was very knowledgeable and helped me decide what to try. It was an overall great dining experience.
Best seafood in Mpls. Lovely oyster bar. Hint: If you eat at the bar, the prices are much better and you can get fantastic seafood and a nice bottle of wine fairly in expensively. One of my very favorite places in Mpls.
Very good, best seafood in MLPS.
3 likes and two OK's. I liked this because I was out voted by three of our party of 5. The lobster bisque was very good. Yada Yada Yada! The three likes had Grilled or pan seared fish. The were very satisfied. I had the Sea and Air dish. Scallops and Duck. The scallops were very good, the duck was chewy and not prepared correctly which was apparent by its chewy consistency. My son had the fish and chips. The fish was dry but the chips (fries) were very good. - He is 19 yrs old. - Just in case you were wondering.
The service was OK. Didn't get a very warm welcoming feeling.
Atmosphere was vogue and very cool.
I broke my rule...when at a seafood restaurant eat seafood.
It was expensive for what I think we got from the experience. -Dad (the guy that pays the check)
This restaurant is a beautiful experience. From the looks of the place itself, to food and service. This restaurant is great for special occasions and good seafood. Its definitely on the pricy side and u would want to dress decently. The servers are all extremely polite and the manager himself makes you feel vip. Reservations are recommended. (there is a large private room as well) the food is absolutely amazing, i have nothing but good words for this place.
Visited for my birthday dinner, planned by my husband. Started with the calamari and the scallops. Both excellent. I had the seabass and husband had the seafood mixed grill. Both incredibly delicious. Ordered the HUGE asparagus as aside, which we really didn't need, but again, tasty. For drinks I had the Sea Pearl which was a pretty blue and scrumptious! Not an inexpensive meal, but my husband says I'm worth it. 😆
My best friend and I made dinner reservations to celebrate a promotion and a birthday. After the meal we had, I would never want to celebrate anywhere else. We “ went out on a ledge” and ordered chicken fried lobster and had zero regrets. The dry aged ribeye was amazing. Our server, Aidan, and the manager Nat provided the most memorable dining experience. Everything from food to service to the fun and friendly personalities made for a perfect night. Unforgettable…

My new favorite seafood place, wish they had one in Toronto! Comes with a cruise ship vibe, but the food and drinks were amazing! Came for a business dinner and everything including service was perfect! We had oysters, shrimp cocktail, crab cocktails, lobster, sushi, calamari, branzino, hash browns, and everything was very fresh and delicious! Have to come back to one of these when I am back in the US again
everything was amazing today. Our server was very professional and knew his stuff.
I asked about Gluten free and he verified everything with the kitchen staff.
One of the best old fashioned drinks I have had in a while.
Portion sizes were perfect, not too much to eat. Food was all top notch and would love to come here again sometime.
This is in my opinion one of the best seafood restaurants I’ve been to for the price. I tried almost everything from the raw bar and it was the most fresh tasting seafood I’ve had in a long time. The service was also amazing and very attentive and welcoming. We celebrated an anniversary and they treated us very very nice and got us a free dessert for the occasion .
This was recommended to me by a friend. It was fancier than I anticipated. Definitely more than I usually go to.
Service was great. Food was good. For me, the temperature was perfect. I hate when food is piping hot.
Unforgettable experience. Had the pleasure of dining here during a wedding dinner for my dad. Will look forward to going back. 11/10 experience.
Phil & Wendy were fantastic. Amazing service all around. The food was better and more fresh than I could have imagined & they made my boyfriends birthday SO special. Can't wait to come back.
Always the best. I made reservations for my friends birthday and they made it such a special and luxurious experience. Service was great as always and the cocktail list is one of my favorites. They have a great bar with a lot of selection. The menu has the best seafood, definitely ask your server to make suggestions because you will find something you didn’t expect to like but will love. Their oysters had a clean delicious brine. Very fresh.
