I was part of a group and we had a fabulous time with Christie as our server. Make sure to walk around and explore the restaurant. The fixtures are authentic and there are cool photos of celebs and former presidents who passed through previously. I could not decide on a dish so I selected a sampler entree which was listed as a favorite of JFK.
The service took a while but we were certainly in a large group and there was a tour group that visited as well. I highly recommend this place for anyone who is interested in connecting with Milwaukee's German heritage.
I had a salad, not a big fan of German food, everyone enjoyed their food and the atmosphere. Was their mom's 93th birthday. We drove her to Milwaukee cause her son and daughter-in-law were working there. So we had a good time
As a walk-in and solo diner I'm always oriented to making sure my server gets taken care of. After an 18-hour day I walked in and the hostess, Donnie(?) helped me settle in at the bar. Like Donnie, the bartender, Vera, was just wonderful and very personable. She helped me navigate my way through to what I will call the dead animal platter. They call it the Bavarian. Four different things that were each flavorful on their own and better with the German mustard. Vera steered me to the black forest chocolate cake and glass of the 40-year old Taylor Fladgate tawny port. With service like that and a meal that satiated I will definitely be back soon.
The best authentic German restaurant in North America. You would think you are in Munich. Authentic German food, great beer on tap and authentic German schnapps.
And there are photos of all the famous people who have eaten at Maders, from Hollywood stars to politicians, and yes, even US presidents.
The food was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere and service were also impeccable!! The German entree’s and dessert were spot on!! Deserves 10 stars instead of 5! Highly recommend!!
Outstanding German restaurant. If you're not familiar with German dishes and on fence on whether you'd like this place, don't let that affect your decision. We had a steak entrée and chicken entrée that was absolutely delicious. Plenty of sauerkraut if you want though! Delicious desserts (Apple strudel for us) and great selection of drinks.
Absolutely beautiful atmosphere as well.
First off this place is a must stop, it has been here since 1911 and owned by the same family since. They have great food and drink. The atmosphere is awesome, with rich history and heritage. Stained glass work and wood craftsmanship throughout.
This place does have a parking lot which is rare for this part of town, but otherwise if full may be a little walk.
Could be kid friendly but if you have a picky eater this may not be a place for them.
Epic German food with great authentic flavor! Wiener schnitzel was perfect and the warm potato salad was phenomenal. Would have given them 5 stars but took 30-40 minutes to get food with only 2-3 other people in the restaurant besides myself.
Iconic Mader’s serves traditional German food in a huge space including a white table cloth dining room & adjacent bar that add up to a great atmosphere.
I came for lunch and my server Dan was the man. He brought my 1/2 liter beer out quickly and took me through the menu. I grabbed some Potato Pancakes & Apple Sauce to start. They were crisp and flavorful and the apple were a great contrast. I ordered the lunch portion Wiener Schnitzel (veal) with Spaetzle, Sauerkraut and a rich Mushroom Jaeger sauce. A blast of lemon brightened things up and the food came out piping hot. The Apple Streudel was a risky call at lunch since I had places to be in the afternoon. It was delicious but I could have used a nap.
As au mentioned service was super friendly, helpful and fast. There is a parking lot to the side. If you need authentic German food, head to Mader’s.
The Reuben rolls were so, so tasty! The Wiener schnitzel with spatzel was not our favorite, but on that note it seemed very traditional which is a cool experience! The vibe was very quiet when we entered - but we were there for lunch on a Wednesday… so I wish I could see a dinner crowd on the weekend! The serving staff was dressed up in German themed attire. Decor was very cool and the beers were massive!
