We always find a fresh fish spot when we visit Mackinaw & the U.P. This place has fresh caught whitefish daily! The owner was the person who greeted us, took our order, served us, and chatted with us extensively while we were there. My fiance & I shared a 3 piece with fries & hushpuppies, which was plenty for a late dinner for us. He's going again tonight in fact. Prices were very reasonable! We will be back on our next trip up.
This is a quick casual restaurant that done one thing very well, make Fish and Chips!
They've got the recipe down as this popular stop is great for a quick bite. The fish is a good size and two of us split a basket with three pieces.
They also have chicken and hush puppies along with fountain pop and a few canned drinks.
The decor is just about worth the stop as well. Lots of things related to fishing and the ocean. Very fun spot with great fish!
We always have to eat here anytime we come to Mackinac City!! We always get the White Fish 3 piece with fries a hush puppies. It also comes with coleslaw and delicious tartar sauce!! I love that they have a patio eating area so you can enjoy the fresh air outside. Definitely will always be our go to for many years to come!! With full bellies and happy hearts! If you haven’t tried this place, you should!! By the way, we got to meet the owner! He’s a very friendly person and we felt very welcomed!!
This place really is the best! The fish is so fresh and tender with big meaty pieces. The best whitefish I’ve had in Michigan so far. The coleslaw is perfect to taste (which is very hit or miss when eating out) & the tartar sauce & hush puppies are amazing too. Only open seasonally, this place really is a gem.
Nice place to go for fish. Most people get whitefish as did I — a two-piece basket. One piece was perfect — cooked just right in a mild breading and piping hot when delivered. The second piece was rank. I took it back to the counter and was told it was “dark meat” that is bad but can’t be detected while cooking. They cheerfully gave me another piece. And that one was rank too! I gave up on the fish. The fries not the star of the basket being just frozen fries but cooked perfectly. Slaw good. Seating area inside and outside clean and in good order.
Scalawags offer awesome Fish and Chips (fries), one of the best in Michigan. Fish is fresh and crisp, fries well done, excellent tartar sauce and awesome ambience. Love the vibe of this place. Over the years this place had made it "must-go" places in Mackinaw city/Mackinac Island area
What a charming spot! The atmosphere was so warm and inviting. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was fresh and hot. The restaurant was clean and cozy. Highly recommend!
Great place to eat and be every year that we stay in Mackinaw city at least we eat twice there is our norm great walleye and white fish the chowder is outstanding top notch service,Thank you so much
The food takes awhile to get to you, but it is so worth it! We had a chicken meal (pictured), perch mean, whitefish meal, and chicken sandwich meal. The food was so hot and fresh. The chicken was the juiciest I've had at a restaurant....possibly ever. It was so good! Strongly recommend!!!
Went there today and had the chicken basket. That was a damned good meal!!
The dining area was neat also. Friendly staff. We will be back.
