The Original?. This place is an Institution. ommy Tang was the Chef here before he opened his place on Melrose like 30 or so years ago. What can I say, other places come and go this place is still there and still on top of their game. If you love food you must eat here, I was going to say if you are in los angeles and you love food but I think is better to say if you love food come to los angeles and go to Chan Darae. Nuff said, GO, it will be exactly what you want, need, desire...
Breaking it down, Chan Darae still has got good solid Thai cooking. It’s not too far from the Arclight. It has a small bar, just good enough to hang out and wait for your table. There’s a TV showing whatever game’s important. In all other respects, Chan Dara is a good turn and burn operation. They get you in, get you fed…and then don’t worry so much about when you leave. It’s one of the better restaurants to have a conversation in.
GREAT food, great atmosphere. Cool photos of celebrities with the family staff on the walls and it was appropriate and touching that they had David Bowie music playing the day after his passing (and they have a really neat photo of Bowie and Jagger with the staff neat the bar).
I was a tourist but if I find myself in Hollywood again this will be on my short list of restaurants to dine.
The food here is very good, especially the curry. I find the pad thai a little too greasy, but that's probably just me. The waitresses here are definitely a distraction.
A certain number of celebrities go here on occasion (e.g. Vince Vaughn, Drew Barrymore, Keanu Reeves). It's also nice that Amoeba Music is diagonally across the street, and there are various clubs along Cahuenga Blvd leading up to Hollywood Blvd.
The restaurant parking is not great, especially on weekends. I usually park in the lot on the East side of Ivar Ave, between Sunset Blvd and Selma Ave.
Good Thai restaurant in the middle of Hollywood. The space is small but more than adequate for small parties 2-4. They have an extensive menu with your standard noodles, soups and other items.
My favorite soup is the Thom Kah Gai and their spicy beef salad is my all-time favorite for something on the lighter scale. I've had their Kung Pao special which is also really good.
Service is usually good though they seem to slow down for larger groups. Typically go for lunch but they also open for dinner.
Excellent food here. Best Thai I've had in town. Their Kung Pau chicken Sriracha dish was great as was everything else. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was clean and inviting.
Hollywood Indian eatery that has been around for like forever. Great for fast delicious Indian food or if you just wanna sit and chill for a beer or Tai tea before an AMC flick or Ameoba spree. Go walk Sunset first then come here.
The location is a bit unassuming, but the food is fantastic, especially the Pad Thai.
Really delicious food and pleasant atmosphere. Recommend this restaurant
