LOVE!. I am also a Santa Barbara girl who finds many excuses to stop in and luckily Pho So 1 opened an Oxnard branch to satisfy all my pho cravings! Everything is good here - not just the pho. Try the family special where you grill everything at the table - the special part of this is the sauce - a fish sauce with pineapple that is out of this world.
Very good Vietnamese. Van Nuys is inundated with fast food chains; just look at the list. Pho 999 is like a Vietnamese Mac Donald's. So, if you think you like Vietnamese food, and want to try a better variety of possibilities, I suggest Pho So 1.
There are two locations: the original is on Reseda just north of Sherman Way (parking in the rear), and the other is on Sepulveda, two doors from the 99 Ranch Market, at the end on the corner. Either one is good, although some people think that the Sepulveda store is a little nicer; it's newer. It's also smaller, but either one can be packed at lunch time or during normal dinner hours.
A good selection of Bun dishes are available at Pho So 1, which is not true at the Pho 999s. The egg rolls are bigger, and the selection of herbs are usually more varied. There are also more rice dishes. Pho So 1 offers a bigger menu, and I think the food is far and above better prepared. I have friends in Altadena who have tried their local Vietnamese restaurants, but they prefer Pho So 1 so much more that they drive all the way to Van Nuys to eat there. Another friend who lives in Santa Barbara insists that we eat at Pho So 1 whenever he's in town. Try it, and make your own decision, but I would bet you'd agree that Pho So 1 is a better choice.
My family and I have been going to this place for over 20 years and one of my favorite pho restaurants.
I haven’t been here in almost 4 years as I’ve been outside the country and great to know they still have the same fast service and tasty poke of pho I remember.
They have become victim to the Siracha shortage as they don’t have the rooster brand and that does change the flavors a bit but overall I’m still happy, though the price is quite a shock at nearly $15/bowl
Came here for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was packed, and there was 10-15 minutes wait. If you don’t mind the occasional flies buzzing about, this place has pretty decent pho. The various meats in the # 1 Dac biet were fresh and broth was flavorful.
This review is specifically for vegetarians. There are exactly 3 items on the menu for vegetarians - a veggie pho, a noodle dish with stir fried veggies and tofu, and tofu spring rolls. The spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce were probably the best thing. The others weren't bad, but they weren't amazing either. I'm sure people who eat meat and seafood love this place, but I don't see us returning, given that we've tried everything on the menu that's available to us vegetarians, and didn't particularly love it.
The food overall was really good. Service could be better though. We got seated, ordered, food came out super fast. We got our pho and had to wait forever to get the toppings (basil, bean sprouts, lime, etc...). Our pho was cold by the time it finally arrived. No one came around to refill water. Not the best system.
This restaurant is always busy. The service is great, the food portions are amazing.
First off, I’m not from the area, I live 3 hours away. I stopped here before returning back home & I was not disappointed at all! The pho (I had the #13) was absolutely delicious, the broth was amazing too! I was greeted by the employees immediately upon walking in, & in less than 1 minute, they had my iced water ready for me! I really appreciated that. Even BETTER, my order arrived to my table in less than 5 minutes!!! Each & every employee there was so very nice & it felt very welcoming. I entirely enjoyed every single bite from my order, each bite tasted hot & fresh, NO complaints. I will absolutely be returning here if I ever happen to be in the area again.
First time here. Ordered Pho for our family. The order was correct and included all the basil, sprouts, jalapenos etc. Everything was carefully packed and portions were good and very tasty.
I've only tried a couple of Pho spots here in LA, but this was one of the better spots. I'm sure we will be going back!
The best Pho I have EVER had! The broth is rich, the noodles perfectly cooked, the portion generous, and meat tender and flavorful. The menu is long because it has different meat variations, so if you're like me and don't like tendons then you can order the brisket Pho, or you can order the special which has all the works with no extra charge! I love to add their spicy sauce (not really spicy), a couple slices of jalapeño for kick, and leave in a slice of lime in my soup because I love how it infuses with the flavors and refreshes the rich broth.
The food here is incredible. Wow so many authentic items on their menu. When I am in LA I always add a stop to this wonderful restaurant. The service is always great and the food always comes out fast and fresh. Great place for casual business meeting or a group event. My favorite are the fried rice noodles. Wow! Plenty of vegetarian options too.
I love how they all talk to me like i’m a homie. By im not vietnamese, chao! They all welcomed me with their beautiful asian pho, my daughter was so impressed she ate the whole pho bowl without needing to watch her cocomelon all the time. This shocked me and ever since, I came to this place and ate the food while my daughter chugs it up! Like period! I love this place so much, the service, the beautiful place, and the delicious food shocked me to the bone. I definitely recommend going here, especially with kids!
