Best Ethiopian in the Area. Best Ethiopian food I have had. It was fresh and flavorful! The injera (soft bread with little holes) was delicious soft and fresh, which is not always the case at Ethiopian restaurants. The staff was wonderful, relaxed, but attentive. I would definitely suggest this to anyone looking for fresh Ethiopian cuisine. I know I'll be returning.

Great Food!. No matter what you chose on the menu, it will be well worth trying. Everything on the Caribbean menu is great! The Ethiopian menu has vast options to chose from and great flavor. I highly recommend trying the awaze sauce! I will be coming back and have recommended this restaurant!

Hospitable local restaurant and bar. Flat bread platters topped with chunks of meat and veggies. Your utensils are pieces bread. Good stuff.

also serving Caribbean food. Will go back for jerked chicken.

The vegetarian combo platter is excellent! The plantains have great flavor! The service hear is great, very fast and efficient. The interior of the restaurant has a rad design, just a cool place. It's definitely worth checking out, the best Ethiopian food in Kansas City for sure.

The food is AMAZING and very authentic!. I am from the Caribbean island of Saint Kitts and my husband (American) brought me here as a surprise in hopes that he could help with my homesickness. Long story short, he hit the nail on the head when he chose this place and we have been faithful customers ever since. The service is so personalized. You feel like family the minute you walk in. Kaptyn, a hostess, and the other host who is male (I can't remember his name) are so welcoming, down to earth, and friendly. The music is ALWAYS perfect, they play West Indian music, both popular and underground. You can expect to hear the sounds Bob Marley, Chronixx, Buju Banton, Jah Cure, Koffee, etc. The menu offers a wide selection of traditional West Indian and Ethiopian food including vegetarian options. One of my absolute favorite things about Awaze is the food portions, you WILL get your money's worth. They give you big portions of food where as some places try to skimp out on quantity. If you are from the Caribbean, you know that big portions are default. The food is seasoned and cooked to perfection and the chef is so humble and sweet. (I often ask to see him at the end of my meal just so I can compliment him). I cannot rave more about this place. If you are of West Indian or Ethiopian descent you will be pleasantly surprised to find out the tastes and vibes of this restaurant will bring you right back to home. And if you aren't from either of those regions you will fall in love with everything about this place and you'll never want fast food or junk food again. You'll be hooked and always craving their curry goat. Speaking of, the last time my husband and I went to Awaze we ordered beef sambussas as appetizers, he ordered curry goat (his favorite in the white bowl) and I ordered jerk chicken ( red plate). Both meals come with sides of red beans and rice, fried plantains, and mixed cabbage with sweet potato. You also get fresh salads with avocado, olive oil and tomatoes with the meal as well. See what I mean about big portions! If you live in Kansas City, Awaze is MUST MUST MUST go to. It is the perfect place to enjoy great music, great people, and even better food.

My mom and I enjoyed this place so much. Our waitress was so kind and made us feel very welcome. We had some wonderful tea and fresh juice and ordered the vegetarian platter. They were very accommodating about our inability to handle spicy foods and added extras of other dishes. My mom said she would go back every day if she could!

Very nice workers. Great fresh food. Good music selection as well. If Jamaican and Ethopian food is what you're looking for this is the spot to go!

Soooooo good! One thing to be aware of- don't expect your food to come out fast, everything is made fresh to order so it takes a while (and it is worth the wait). I had the jerk chicken which was moist and flavorful- it came with a super yummy salad, rice, cabbage, and fried plantains. The owner, Rachel, was very sweet and answered all of our questions. I will definitely be back again to try something else!

Amazing food!!! I try something new on the menu every time and have never been disappointed. I love that the meals are so big that I can take home the leftovers and still have an entire meal left. The food is very filling & nourishing as well, doesn't make me have that heavy, groggy feeling I get after eating at most American food restaurants, but of course, this is a carribean restaurant. The atmosphere is fantastic as well. Very authentic. This has become one of my top favorite places to eat in KC. Feels like home to me.

This was my first at Ethiopian cuisine, although I heard that there’s no such restaurant that they claim to be authentic ethiopian from a friend who was from Ethiopia 🇪🇹. Nevertheless, gave it a try, food was spicy and good, tempura plantain was sweet and good. Liked this chicken sandwich, salad was different and good too. Cons are here also, firstly wait time was really too much to tolerate, and the lady didn’t get the order right. We ordered samosa as appetizer either they ran out of it or forget to serve. But I saw she was not apologizing nor she mentioned about it. Secondly, cleanliness was not satisfactory. Tables were odorous so it was a bit problematic I guess. Although the lady was really jolly and I enjoyed talking to her.

I mean...where do I begin with this place! It doesn't matter if you are trying the house salad, the curry goat, the jerk chicken, the curry shrimp, the MANGO LEMONADE, the cabbage, the plantains, the jerk salmon, the sambussas, the lamb, the injera and did I say the MANGO LEMONADE...you get what I'm saying...TRY EVERYTHING!
